>>
opinions range from
>garbage
to
>it's fine
to
>great

I think it smells like piss
>>
Works fine in ARs if the AR isn't shit.
Better ammo works, better, but tula works OK.
>>
>>33617452
its plinking ammo. thats it. AR's have to have a good quality gas block to handle it though. I occasionally find tula 223 rounds unfired in this place i go to shoot because peoples shit guns cant fire it
>>
Very dirty, occasional malf's but it wont kaboom. good for range use, not really anything else
>>
sparks like a mofo
>>
I ran about 100rds through my galil recently and Tula it is the only ammo that has ever caused FTEs with the extractor ripping off part of the rims.
Oddly Wolf steelcase runs perfectly though.

best meme ammo right here, complete with a game of minefield as to whether or not you get a hard primer..

My MP sport fires it with no problem so I can't say I've had bad experiences with it.

Anon from Tula here
Most normal bullets are made with tombac jacket, i.e. copper mixed with some zink. Why russian ammo is so cheap, it uses steel casing and "bimetallic" jacket made from mostly soft steel and only very thin layer of tombac. Soviets have been experimenting with it since 30. These bullets will eat away normal stainless steel barrel, and to compensate for that, virtually all rifles made in Russia have chrome-lined barrels. So if you use something which was made with these bullets in mind (actual soviet AK/SKS or Saiga), it will be ok. If you have western-made chrome-lined barrel, reportedly they are still not as good as russian ones. Like, Bushmaster chrome-lined barrels are done after shooting 6000 rounds of russian ammo while Saiga survives up to 15000. Also some series like Barnaul Gold have additional coating on bullets, which supposedly alleviates barrel wear problem. There is also Centaur series which uses imported Hornady bullets.

As for particular manufacturer, there is unending discussion on russian forums about who's better. Seems like Barnaul has best overall quality, but they are also the ones who have biggest problem with maintaining correct gunpowder loads. With all manufacturers, be prepared for wildly different load weights, tearing rims, jaggies on edges, and bullets which sometimes just fall from casing.

Anyway, don't put russian bullets into something without chrome-lined barrel (if they have "black barrel"), and into something that you are not ready to throw away. If you have some cheap crap like Yugoslavian-made SKS for 300 bucks, forget about what I wrote, shoot it until bullets start leaving keyholes and gift it to kids in somali after.

Also no matter what don't use Barnaul 308 Win, it absolutely may total your rifle and injure yourself.

>Anon from Tula here

As in you work for them. Seriously?

> Like, Bushmaster chrome-lined barrels are done after shooting 6000 rounds of russian ammo

Bushmaster a shit after they were bought out, so bad example.

>shoot it until bullets start leaving keyholes and gift it to kids in somali after

lol

>>33617452
Most people have trouble with steel ammo in ARs is because of either

1. Their rifle is under gassed. Russian ammo on average has less powder. Or

2. Because of DI and how dirty Russian ammo is, they get malfunctions a lot sooner without frequent cleaning

>As in you work for them. Seriously?
No I just live in the city. I had some talks about actual ammo factory. It seems they have 2 tiers of of workers. First one, 50-something dudes with great experience and who are paid decently (around 1k USD per month, that's like 3 times the average wage in Russia). It's always problem to replace them when they retire. Second tier, random gopniks. They work until they get paid, then they go on drinking binge until they run out of money and return to work. One of them managed to self-immolate with gunpowder while working few years ago. Depending on the situation, they may or may not employ first tier guys for doing export ammo, given half of their revenue comes from west. But when they have to do government order, second type may be assigned for commercial job. That's when magic happens and guns start sparking.

>>33617452

I shoot Tula through my Beretta 92S all the time, and I've never once had a problem with it. I've also never once had the "it kills your barrel" meme like >>33620672 claims, and I've shot the stuff for years. I generally prefer Wolf to Tula though, but I'll grab Tula if I can find it for cheap. My last buy was a spam can of 9mm Tula (900 rounds) for $72.

I'm convinced the "Tula/Wolf/etc is bad" memes come from faggots who overpay for brass ammo.
>>
>>33621128
Tests show that it wears on the barrel more as far as ARs go, but what you save on ammo will basically make up for the need to buy a barrel sooner.
>>
>>33621170

I can't speak for AR's really, since I just do reloads for that. However, Tula has never once caused issues to my 92S, and I doubt it will in the future. The gun I use the most for fun at the range is my Norinco SKS, and that thing will eat shit and blast it out no problem without any harm to the barrel.

Here's the test btw
>>
>>33621170

pistols shoot so slow it wont be a problem
>>
>>33621203

this test is bullshit because they fired the guns like some sort of ww1 machinegunner. Mislabled the test as steel case vs brass instead of defining it by jacket type. Failed to take into account powder types in cheaper ammo being more abrasive and hot.

Dude, they don't call Barnaul "Pornaul" in Russia for no reason.
King of plinking ammo, sure. Don't use it in something like Mauser M-12 though.
>>
>>33617452
I've shot the FUCK out of Tul out of my PSA AR15. Just clean it.
>>
>>33621203

>Wolf only has 15 in 10,000 in terms of issues
>Wolf/Bear are CLEANER than Federal
>Wolf got less accurate over time, and then suddenly became more accurate
>despite this, Wolf somehow maintains the same velocity that the supposedly better Federal maintains
>continuously shot barrels so hot that it was far beyond the heat that the vast majority of people would ever experience

That test is completely wack.
>>
>>33620839
>one of them managed to self immolate with gunpowder

Excuse me but i laughed imaginating a Drunk Votnik burning himself with gunpowder

Did he survived ?
>>
>>33621315
Unfortunately no. It seems there is a fire on factory every few years, gangs of ammo-stealers getting arrested, technical director having fatal water scooter incident in Thailand, lawsuits over using Wolf trademark. Really fun place.
>>
>>33621308
Without any tests, I can tell you that everyone on russian gun forums is crying about Hornady no longer providing bullets for Centaur, thus killing the only quality ammo brand in Russia.
>>
>>33621128
Not OP, but keep in mind like the other anon said, it does wear out your barrel quicker, BUT, velocity has a part in it too. Higher velocity rounds will wear out a barrel quicker than slower velocity rounds, from what I've been told.

The included picture from this test makes clear that you should shoot ONLY steel-cased Russian ammo in you AR, as the bore erosion will be effectively the same, yet there is an extreme difference in flame-cutting at the gas port with the brass-cased ammo, which could obviously lead to premature failure, firearm destruction, and possible personal injury.

Thank you for posting this important test which has convinced us all to NOT use brass-cased ammo under any circumstances.
>>
>>33617452

Shot thousands of Monarch, usually cheaper than tula ammo through my BCM AR with no issues. Maybe 120 rounds of tula same way. About to get 1k rounds of tula for a better deal soon.

Other than it being less accurate than more expensive names, tula is fine
>>
>>33617473
MY beater shit 400 dollar build PSA eats the fuck out of tula
>>
>>33621447
Damn that sounds like fun.

Uh, in the "look from the outside" sense I mean.
>>
>>33621765
throw your entire gun collection away, they're infected.
>>
outside of being really dirty and maybe 5 duds out of every 1000 they work fine in all my guns. i wouldn't trust my life to them, but their decent plinking ammo, especially for the money. My BCM AR shoots it fine tho i personalty prefer Brown Bear. little more accurate and never had a bad round.
>>
>>33621765
Bimetallic kills barrel in about 5000 shots of intense shooting, while copper jacket needs 10000+ for the same. Depends if you consider cheaper price worth less barrel life.
According to this graph even with 2 barrel replacements it's still cheaper than firing 10000 rounds with copper jacket.
>>
>>33617452
I bought into the brass>steel for years then when i got a glock ran only Tula/aluminum cases through it without any issues. My 92fs however had a squib round, Tulsa refunded me the box of ammo and the cost to remove the lodged bullet. One major issue in five years. Would continue to shoot it however online is the only place left where it's significantly cheaper. At big box stores finding Perfecta and Monarch brass cases at times equal/cheaper in price.
>>
>>33621765
Considering how quick and easy it is to swap parts on an AR, you'll be fine. Yeah full copper jacketed ammo will have less wear, but bimetal jacketed ammo is cheaper, so it's really up to you.
>>
>>33617452

it's okay just under loaded as shit, think 2500 fps for 5.45 and .223

barnaul and gt are much better

like running 13k rounds of mag dumping via Luckygunner or whatever claiming it's bad? Most all of us put up rookie numbers in comparison on the typical range trip. Or perhaps if your a "responsible " gun owner you also actually clean the fucking thing regularly.
