So for all who tuned in on the last thread, I went back to the gun store today and picked up that 645.
Out the door for $265. It's in surprisingly nice shape for the price. Only thing I'm not crazy about is the trigger.
Recent acquisitions thread, I suppose?

Everything was nice and clean on the inside.
Aside from a couple small scratches on the slide, and the retard mark on the frame, it's cosmetically excellent.
>>33614192
Here it is with my current favorite, another stray I picked up at Gander Mountain.
>>33614134
Really? My 645 definitely has the best trigger out of my collection. What do you dislike about it?
>>33614286
Long and gritty takeup. The break and the reset are nice though.
It doesn't come close to my Pre-B, but it's not horrible.
>>33614412
if it still has a magazine disconnect inside, apparently s&w 3rd gen triggers clean up with it removed. otherwise, a little polishing might help
but $265 for any 3rd gen is about $100 less than what I normally see them, let alone a fucking 45 model. that's some good shit mayne.
>>33614562
I'm pretty happy about the price, I gotta say.
How hard is it to get rid of the magazine disconnect?
>>33614562
645 is 2nd gen, so the cost of $265 is even more of a steal.
>>33614596
Are the 2nd gens worth more?
About how much do you think a 645 in this condition is worth?
>>33614623
2nd gens are definitely worth more. Older and less police trade in's available. Picked up my 645 at a show for $620 in around the same condition. Couldn't resist due to pic related.
645s are nice guns. The DA is a bit heavy, but dry fire it and you'll adjust to it.
Back in the early 80's gunsmiths would convert DA/SA Smiths to SA only, and they'd carry the gun in condition 1, cocked.

If it's like the 3rd gens, you have to take the rear sights out and remove some small springs.
There is a spring under the rear sight that applies tension to the extractor rod, and that needs to be removed.
You did pretty good, OP. I have a 3rd gen and it's one of my favorite guns.
>>33614698
Cool, good to know.
>>33614800
That kinda sounds like a bitch. I'll shoot it soon and then decide whether it needs to come apart.
>>33614134
Well done.
I was there yesterday, and I am now jelly.
Allow me to enjoy your success vicariously.
Congrats.
>>33614698
He should have never ditched his Bren Ten.
>>33614596
>>33614562
I'm a dumbass, 2nd gen had 3 digits, 3rd had 4 digits
then that's an insane steal
>>33614134
Luck bastard. A flick cost $1000, plus actually getting your restricted and all the legal shit.
I'm jelly.
>>33615861
*glock.

I believe Mann decided to switch when Dornaus & Dixon went out of business.
>>33614700
Thats a bold move Cotton
>pachmayr's
Count yourself lucky, the factory plastic panels blow ass. You did really great, I thought I got a great deal when I snagged a LNIB 645 for $650 after tax
Be ready to spend a lot on mags; I have 2 guns that use that pattern of mag, and that shit adds up quick. Don't be afraid of used mags, any of them with plastic baseplates probably will be fine, as they are better quality than Mec Gar and Wilson Combats
>>33617904
Yeah, I'm digging the Pachmayrs for sure.
I noticed you can get 10 round Promags for like $15 for this gun. They'll be garbage like all Promag products, right?
If so, do you know the best place to find factory mags?
>recent acquisitions thread?
I am buying a Nova tactical as I type this, if that counts
