You can add more magazines and mortar rounds/GPMG link and drop the mine detector, the SUSAT has been phased out now in favour of Elcans and Spectres and not once did I see someone carrying a bar mine.

Is a mine detector not a useful thing to have?

They don't work on IEDs

every STD possible and a bottle of tesco vodka judging by the ones I've met
>>

oh shite sorry m8
>>
>>33612295
Or the majority of actual mines.
>>
>>33612286
Of course but not everyone had one, mostly people just carried extra ammunition for the support weapons and radio batteries, it would look pretty mad to see every man swinging a metal detector around while patrolling.
>>
>>33612258
>Elcans and Spectres

Who the fuck is getting those? I thought the modern sight in usage was the LDS?
>>
>>33612258

wait

>>33612330
the LDS is a fucking Elcan, I'm just being stupid
>>

I notice there is no grenades or smoke listed?
>>
>>33612330
LDS is manufactured (Well, the primary sight is) by Eclan. Not sure who makes the EBS.

The spectre is the Trijicon sight some units have.

>3SCOTS has them, I think.

Am I missing something?
>>
>>33612351
Yes those were carried as well, everyone carried at least 1 smoke but most spare grenades carried would have been for the 40mm UGL, other units may have carried the hand thrown variety but we preferred to lob them at longer range.
>>
>>33612375

Did everyone have a ugl then?

Also how does the kit for the average Royal Marine compare to an army squaddie?
>>
>>33612502
>Did everyone have a ugl then?

We had two UGL's per section, 1 per fire team.

>Also how does the kit for the average Royal Marine compare to an army squaddie?

Exactly the same, Infantry in the British forces have pretty standard training and equipment, the booties did the same job as the Army in Iraq and Afghanistan and learned the same lessons.

Is that bullpup as fucked as I hear? It looks just real bad

Why would they give a good sight to a bunch of criminals?
>>
>>33612581
The A2 is accurate and reliable but heavy and a bastard to clean, the A1 is every bit as bad as the memes say. The upcoming A3 intends to strip some of that weight, it will certainly be welcome.
>>
>>33612619

It seems to me Britain decided to go with it just because of stubborn tradition and not wanting to feel like they lost by using "our" rifle.

What benefits does the A2 or even the A3 have over an M4A1? Ego aside, would that just be easier?
>>
>>33612640
>What benefits does the A2 or even the A3 have over an M4A1? Ego aside, would that just be easier?
It was actually cheaper at the time to buy new M16's rather than upgrade the A1's to A2's but the politicians did not want to admit they fucked up so they stuck with it, nowadays the A2 is so reliable that no other 5.56 rifle offers enough benefits to justify the costs of arming and retraining hundreds of thousands of troops.
>>
>>33612640

You're in too deep, huh? I guess that could be said of the AR platform too. I am sad the US Military seems intent on sucking HK's cock so bad, I would have liked to see more money go towards FN and the SCAR program
>>
>>33612674

>Still breaks itself, still unreliable.
How so? What did you do to fuck it?
>>
>>33612708
You are fucking wrong.
>>
Why doesn't the British Army use the A1 on training exercises?

They're pretty much identical cosmetically and weight wise, but since they're less reliable, the people using them will have more experience with stoppages.
>>
>>33612581
I was a cadet for a few months, we had some decommissioned ones that we had to take apart and do rifle drill with and stuff, let me tell you they are the ugliest, most unwieldy, complex, uncomfortable rifles to handle and take apart ever and I've never even shot one
also I can see why they have such issues and jammed so much just from looking at the internals
basically there fucking piles of wank hoping they adopt something else by the time I get in
>>
>>33612762
>Why doesn't the British Army use the A1 on training exercises?
They no longer exist outside of a few private collectors, every A1 in service was upgraded.

ÂŁ400 per rifle, as I said it would have been cheaper to buy M16's at the time but nowadays there is no justification for replacing an entire platform.

Why keep them? Better to upgrade them and get proper use out of them.

It's not even remotely difficult to take apart or handle.

>You sure it wasn't because you were a limp wristed mong?
He was probably 14, any older and being in the cadets mean getting a kicking at school.
>>
>>33612934
To be fair to him, I did cadets in the 90's, and it was the thing all the cool kids did.

I'm guessing that's not the case now.
>>
>>33612949
I was in the cadets too but it got embarrassing when you realise you are about to leave school and spend your free time with 12 year olds.

>>
>>33612981
Yeah, I left when I was 16. I image it's weird if you're 18 and everyone around you is 12.
>>
>>33613009
Our Cadet Warrant Officer was 18 and I was shocked that he said he was a vehicle mechanic, I really thought he was in the real armed forces and he just volunteered for the cadets. All my respect for him was gone that day, he looked like he was in his late twenties so could have made up any shit and we would have believed him.
>>
>>33612981
>this desu
I stopped going pretty much at the start of year 11 since dealing with retarded kids wasn't my thing.

If the L98A2 cadet GP rifle and L86 LSW are any indicator it definitely is a reliable family of rifles, but they are heavy for what they are. Easy to disassemble, not as easy as the AR-15 platform or other rifles I've handled, but nothing too fiddly. The fact that you can fuck up the gas system if you turn it the wrong way should be fixed though, if it hasn't already been.
>>
>>33613197
You never had the pleasure of using the straight pull L98A1 then, biggest pile of shit ever.

I did, and I agree. I didn't bother including it since it's straight pull, and contrary to my point too.

Man, firing more than a couple of magazines of blanks with those pieces of shit was garbage, stoppages all the damned time.
>>
>>33613035
I was in the air cadets when I was 15 and looking back now you realise all your "superiors" were literally just middle aged men and 18 year old outcasts playing dress up on a Tuesday evening.

this soooooo fucking much. it fucking helped the filght sargents mother was a fucking warrent officer

>>33613384

>>
>>33613329
To be fair I think every service rifle hates blanks, I have fired blanks with the L85A2, M16A4, M4A1, Aussie AUG as well as the GPMG and Minimi, stoppages with live rounds on the other hand were rare with all of those weapons.
>>
>>33613401
True, but the A1 GP liked to lock up and not want to cock once it got hot enough. Talk about an arm workout for weedy 13 year olds.

>>33613384
And I hate autistic fucks

>uncomfortable
I'll give you that one

>and I've never even shot one
Oh it shows, because if you had, you'd know that it's one of the most accurate NATO rifles going

>also I can see why they have such issues and jammed so much just from looking at the internals
Bollocks, I've only ever had a stoppage if it was my own fault, A2's don't jam up unless you're being a dickhead and putting 1000 rounds through it a day on full chuckle
Also, not like you would know jack fucking shit about the internals, because 1: You're a fucking idiot, and 2: you don't know how the weapon even fucking operates

So stop talking shit you dirty little mong cunt and don't ever join the army because it will be everybody's pleasure to beast you around the lot
>>

Howdy, English /k/omrades, ignorant American here.

What's the Cadets? Is it like Boy Scouts or JROTC or something?

And why are you all bagging on em so hard, isn't any scrap or semblance of martial pride a good thing in today's Britain?
>>
>>33613970
cadets is like millitry boy scouts, the issue is most people there were either pompous cunts or idiots
>>
>>33613991
Those are pervasive problems within the American boy scouts as well.

Damn shame, Baden-Powell must be turning in his grave.

>>33614046

>>
>>33613970
>What's the Cadets? Is it like Boy Scouts or JROTC or something?
It is a Military sponsored organisation sponsored by the Armed Forces for 12-18 year olds, members are not paid and cannot be deployed. Adult instructors are volunteers and do not require previous military experience but start with the rank of Sergeant, they are considered reservists but again cannot be deployed and they do not have to maintain the same fitness requirements of their counterparts.
>>
>>33613969
No, our unit was re-orbated under (((Army 2020))) so our new regimental kit is newly designed
