Hey /k/, if you had to choose what role would you be in a tank crew, what would it be? I would be Driver, i personally like the idea of driving a moving fortress.
>>33609953
Gunner, blastin niggas like it's cool
Commander, making you both do my bidding
I'll be the gun loader because I'm a retard and wouldn't be able to perform any other job.
>a civilian after receiving my DD-214
I rather just appreciate them from a far after dealing with god damn Bradleys and watching tankers work 5 hours pull track in the middle of no where.
Loader, it has to be the most exciting.
Commander, I get to command the vehicle.
>>33610007
but driver commands the vehicle tho
>>33609953
Pretty short and I've got good upper arm strength so loader probably
>>33610088
Upper body*
Though my arms are my best then shoulders
Either gunner, commander or driver, in that order.
you kind of sold your self short OP. not to many things people can say with out shitposting. i would be gunner.
>>33609953
Either a gunner or commander in an M4 Sherman.
Being the bow gunner doesn't sound all that bad either honestly, don't have to be super involved just blast away bad guys.
Gunner or mechanic.
This is a tank and or an LAV being quenched.
I was a gunner on a Merkava from 2007-2015. AMA (JIDF, JQ, and muh palestine especially)
>>33611088
See any action besides the daily rock throwing?
>>33609953
Driver.
You guys dont know shit.
>>33611115
I was in Operation Cast Lead and the 2015 fun.
I was stationed near Gaza so no mudshits were there to throw rocks at us
I don't think there's a single IDF tank in the West Bank anymore, and there hasn't been for years. Only about 1,000-2,000 personnel are garrisoned there at any given time these days.
>>33609986
This kid is going places.
>Driver, gunner, commander
All of them.
At the same time.
Seriously, this thing could operate with one crewmember if needed.
>>33611088
MERKGUNNER
>>33609953

I'm confused.
Mg gunner (bow gunner?) If in an old tank. Loader if in a new one
C-Can I join your thread g-guys?
>>33611677
>>33609953
Commander, because I get the best view.
Any position in a modern mbt, fucking none in an old tank. Sounds like the most terrifying shit.
>>33611677
A-a sandcrawler?
>>33609991
Depends on your doctrine. In some countries the Loader is the 2IC of the vehicle and a crewman needs to do that job before they become the TC.

A functional crew in the first minutes of the thread.
Way to be efficient.
>no treadhead general
How common was improvised tank armor in Vietnam? Assuming that's what this is.
former Abrams crewmember here. Driver has most comfy job and least effort during normal operations. this is offset by doing the most when the tank is in service.
the loader works the most manual job but when not shooting gets to do fuck all and just enjoy the open air riding which is pretty baller.
the gunner gets to do little manual work overall but since he's crammed into a tiny space it's easy to get claustrophobic and antsy. shooting the gun is pretty fucking rad tho. Also kinda high pressure since you're in charge of the part that makes everyone live or die. Not having a view to the outside world except a 3-18x view can also be really annoying.
The commander is hit and miss. it's the least "tanky" job but also comfy to ride out the top. you need to be a bit smart and have some tactics in your brain. but you also get to designate targets while getting commands from above. it's busy but being the head nigga in charge in pretty baller. responsibility is a burden.
I hate tanks now that I've done it. would rather just play vidya
commander, so I can wear an officer's hat and cruise with the top open
I prefer to be the cannon itself nothing like blowing your load on the enemy
>>33612138
In World War Two the US armored corps had absolutely miniscule casualties compared to all other combat roles.
>>33613834
Those are people, anon
Radio operator (if the tank has a radio and needs a seperate person to operate it) because its relatively safe (unlike a driver or hull gunner), close to the commander and therefore informed on the situation, and is probably the second most qualified position on the tank for a few reasons: Gunners only need to know how to aim, not much training needed; loaders don't need to know jack shit; mg gunners need to know how to aim; any other position on the tank besides commander is literally a placeholder. The radio operator needs to learn how to operate comms AND go through basic tank training like the rest, making them second only to the commander, who goes through extra training for command and shit.
>>33611079
How does that quick temperature change not compromise the hull?
>>33614594
It's hardening the steel or whatever it is made from, basically think of hardening a knife but on a massive scale. They are probably using oil too, not just water
