POST 'EM SURPS!!

attn: anon that was looking for a 1903 stock. there is one at my LGS for $125 (missouri) - just the lower half, no top hand guard.

also anon with the Yugo mauser with mixed markings -- i double checked in the Robert Ball book and yours is definitely a standard M48 Yugo, some of them were just made using spare/captured parts.

Theoretically speaking, if one had rather suddenly come into possession of a "reconstructed" (read: scrapped together from the remains of several dead guns) 1917 artillery luger and lacked a CC pistol, what would be the practicality of CC'ing the piece?

mine is shaved to .45 acp. but it needs light hand loads because brits suck at hand gats. I did one batch of .45s but i made them too weak. round never left the barrel (thankfully so little pressure it didnt bulge the barrel). I have been too lazy to do a new batch for it.

i shoot my .38 Webley instead

if you go for an Ishy first, then try to get a pre-independence one in .303.

the post colonial ones are shit quality.

my first gun in my whole collection was a 1948 Ishapore that still has GRI markings. and side by side with RFI guns you can tell the difference in quality.

one more thing I should mention about fillers; don't use solid granular fillers like cream of wheat in bottle neck casings. it creates a lot of pressure when you try to squeeze relatively incompressible material through a bottleneck. I made this mistake for the first 20 cartridges I reloaded. I had a couple primers blow out.
>>
>>33605325
Really? Cos I wanted the Ishapore because of the 7.62 chambering. If I don't get that, I'd still want an Ishapore or a Lithgow, just because I find the ones made overseas (from Britain) a little more fascinating.

The ishapores in .308 are not bad rifles, but the fit and finish on them is usually shit, and they have the same extractors as the .303 rifles so they tend to just 'drool' brass over the side (which is great if you reload, but otherwise can be annoying)

i never believe a 'sniper' is 'legit' unless i can put my hands on it and inspect. and even then with some models (98ks for example) theres 10 fakes for every real one, so I dont trust it unless the seller has capture papers saying it came back as a sniper.

Why does black powder even need a filler?

I was going to shoot my Italian Vetterli with BP loads in the 6.5 carcano. I even bought real goex black powder because my pyrodex doesn't make enough smoke.

I never fluff up my smokeless powders. why fluff black?

>>
>>33605568
Blackpowder needs compression to safely and efficiently burn.
No filler can lead to ringing and bursting of the barrel.
>>
>>33605550
Get a MAS 36 or a K31
>>
>>33605568
black powder can have large pressure spikes (IE detonation) if you leave too much empty space in the casing. with actual black powder it is actually safe to leave a tiny bit of air gap, as long as you have at least 70-80% load density. Many people would disagree with this, mind you. completely filling the case is the safest bet.
>>
>>33605595
soak the fired casings in hot soapy water with a tiny bit of vinegar for 10 minutes, then dry them off well. I always polish mine in a tumbler for a bit after as well.
>>
>>33605560
This one did. And scopes for the Ross aren't exactly common. Faking it would have cost more than it sold for.

So I need to replace a lost ejector/interrupter screw on my mosin. Anyone have experience with finding one of these? The only replacements I see are on ebay and include the entire interrupter/ejector springs and are like 20 bucks. Seeing as I ONLY need the screw how hard would it be to find the specific screw size at a hardware store and use that?

Or am I better off just paying the 20 bucks
>>
>>33608936
Just pay the $20 and relist the parts you don't need. Or keep them for the future.

Always worth a shot. I lost the screw that holds my Tye-53's magazine follower to the floorplate. Took the floorplate to the hardware store and just tried screws until I found one that work, then bought a couple as spared. No sense spending $20.00 unless you can't find a $0.45 replacement.

>That's fucking cheap, in france this would cost maybe 1500€ or more
French guns here are extremely undervalued. There is a reason a lot of French collectors buy their French guns from the US and Switzerland. Even paying for the import/export fees and shipping is still often cheaper than buying one in France. And in France a lot of guns were converted to different calibers when your country had restrictions on guns in certain "military calibers." You often seen Lebels and Berthiers converted to .348 Winchester in France.

It also doesn't help for you guys that your government pretty much sold all of it's surplus outside of France.

Case in point, I bought this all matching Mousqueton de Artillerie Modèle 1892 Modifié 1916 that was originally a Carabine de Cavalerie Modèle 1890 for only $225. That was including 20 rounds of surplus 8mm Lebel on a Hotchkiss strip.
There was a guy that bought a Meunier test rifle for like $200 in a pawn shop a little while ago. He sold that for a lot more to a French collector.

m/27 was ideally the front-line rifle of the Winter War for the Finnish Army but probably there were always more m/91s in service than m/27s. Finns only made like 70,000 m/27 rifles from 1927-1940, and only 26,000 remained during an inventory in 1951. Despite this, they don't bring much money on the market unless they're VKT-made rifles.

As far as sanded stocks goes that's better than most. It may have been chemically stripped instead of sanding. If you can find a newly made stock set you can probably cut the front section off and slice it in. Some stock makers are now just making front ends for some stocks because of this.

Hey guys first time poster in the general. My lgs has a sporterized model 98 Mauser for $350. The barrel has matching numbers with other parts except for the hand guard and the stock obviously. The bore has nice rifiling but looks a little dark but that may be because it hasn't been cleaned in a long time. The part that stood out the most to me was that it had two original war eagles on the barrel. What I hated though was whoever bubba'd the rifle put aperture target sights on it. I've never been a fan of them. Would it be possible to restore the rifle a little bit to where it would be more comfortable to shoot? Is $350 a reasonable price for the rifle? Thanks guys I'm just getting into collecting. Sorry I don't have any pictures of it and the long winded speech.
>>
>>33616581
$200 over sporter value. A new stock will be ludicrously expensive. But if its a well done bubba you could shoot in comforterably fine.

Can't comment ont he aperture sights without knowing how it was done. Drilled and tapped receiver or just an inplace swap of the stock rear sight (which was also numbered to the rifle)?
>>
>>33616581
>war eagles
Don't say "war eagles" Anon; people will laugh and throw things.
>Would it be possible to restore the rifle a little bit to where it would be more comfortable to shoot?
Comfortable all depends on you. M98 stocks generally have a short LOP so IDK how that'll work for you.
>Is $350 a reasonable price for the rifle?
Probably not for a bubba'ed Kar.98k, certainly not if the aperture sights were mounted in a way that permanently altered the receiver. For it to be worth it it would have to be a rare manufacturer/year example 100% matching with all remaining parts and the metal parts not irreversibly altered by the mounting of the target sights. Pics are a must.

The smoothness is because the post war refurbs have a rougher Parkerzation. Once you use one enough it'll wear in.

Since we're talking about them, I just sent some money off for one plus a 150+ rounds of ammo, mostly French surplus.

They may have had some FN M1930 short rifles; IDK what those may have had for a crest.

>>33623105
M96 action moves the bolt guide rib from the inside of the left receiver wall onto the bolt body itself, allowing for a full-depth thumb cut in the left receiver wall to facilitate easier charging of the magazine from stripper clips. It also adds a gas vent hole in the bolt body, so in case of a pierced primer gases escaping into the bolt body interior can escape without forcing the firing pin backward excessively. M96 bolt face is also completely round, whereas the M93 has a square-off lower edge to help feed from the staggered-column magazine. The Swede m/96 specifically has an L-shaped cocking piece with a knurled surface for thumb purchase, and the safety can be engaged when the firing pin is in the fired position.

If they think it's been sporterized just BS something about wanting to see how much the barrel was cut down. Otherwise, I guess your best bet is to look at pictures of m/38s to get an idea of the proportions.
