I don't know if it's the best SMG of the war, but the ZK-383 is definitely my personal favorite in terms of aesthetics and for being generally cool. I mean, seriously, an SMG that was also supposed to be used as a SAW? Crazy crazy Czechs.

That being said, the Suomi was arguably better, but it was an upgraded version of the '41, and was used in smaller numbers (by the Finns and the Einsatzgruppe).

For its purpose of being rugged, cheap, and able to provide mass fire for troops who lacked proper LMGs in most instances, it did a good job.

PPS-43 was better liked by many

PPS didn't replace PPSh. They produced in parallel and both finally replaced by SKS and AK. According to soviet data PPS had less performance than PPSh but for soviets 10 times less cost was good enough compensation.
