Just curious, why does the USMC want to buy a bunch of 3k decked out AR-15s when they could just put a longer barrel on the M4?
>>
>>33604230
because they leave budget concerns to the pentagon

back in the day they dealt with m1903's when the army had Garands
>>
It's gas-piston, not direct impingement.
>>
>>33604230
Some Marine general got some amazing whores on the H&K dime and/or USMC command is inundated with guys who think comparing beat to fuck M4s with 416s is a fair comparison.
>>
>>33604230
because its the marine corps and HK love.

the marine corps loves HK shit, there was a fucking custom made HK sign in a company picture i saw once.

dont ask me to explain, because im not retarded nor do i eat crayons, youll have to find a marine.

i remeber seeing this rifle be released and thought "lol fucking marines would buy this".

and sure as hell.
>>
>>33604429
You cannot say "I'm not retarded" and then post like a retard. You're giving us mixed signals and I'm going to label you a retarded until you prove otherwise.
>>
>>33604230
Because the government doesn't make good decisions.
>>
And yet...

Instead, they could have just given everyone SCAR17s or SR16s. Plus better optics.

Can't say I'm a big fan of the decision.
>>
M4 MOA: 12
M27 MOA: 0

The M27 also looks like an M4 and so it won't draw extra attention to the squadmember holding it.
>>
rather have a general with stock in weapons than glow belts and map pens.
>>
>>33604939
>won't draw extra attention to the squadmember holding it.
You mean everyone? They're testing it to be fielded at the individual level right now. This is a back door for the Marines to replace the M4.
>>
>>33604230
They got tired of cleaning M4s unnecessarily
>>33604939
do you even know what a MOA IS?
>>
>>33605452
So now they'll just clean M27s unnecessarily? The issue wasn't the weapon, it's the Marine Corps.
>>
>>33604230
-Different gas system
-Literally better than M4 in any way possible
-You don't use plastic lower with Aluminum upper
>>
>>33605488

And that's nothing new. Like damn son were you expecting them to NOT do something retarded? That would be incredibly out of character.
>>
>>33605488
I know, that's why I said it was unnecessary. I know the M4 only needs some lube to run for thousands of rounds, but I'm sure every 0311 that would get issued a M27 would love the thing only because it was faster to look nice for gunny.
>>33605526
name one thing it's better than the M4 at that isn't sustained fire.
Wtf are you talking about, M4s don't use a plastic lower.
>>

Right, sorry. Autism and all that.

Its a piston not a dgi

Why couldnt hk make a piston upper that can fit on gi m4/m16 lower? I.e just have an upper
>>
>>33605452
>do you even know what a MOA IS?

A number for accuracy and precision. the lower the number, the better the accuracy and precision.

You know this is what it really means.
>>
>>33605607
The HK416 upper can fit on a gi lower, but I'd imagine the carrier tilt might wear the buffer tube out much faster.
>>33605639
MOA means around an inch at 100 yards. The standard M4 will shoot 2-3 moa with M855 ball ammo. I can't imagine the M27 doing much better, as M855 is really limited accuracy wise.

>>33605431
M27 is still DGI right? Fires from an open-bolt on the auto position and comes with Surefire 60 rounders?
>>
>>33605554
>Wtf are you talking about, M4s don't use a plastic lower.

I think he was referring to a SCAR there.
>>
>>33605704
no, it's just a g36 gas system slapped on an AR.
The open bolt requirement was dropped, and I think 60 rounders were found to be too unreliable.

We would be going backwards if they did that. The difference between gas piston and direct impingement is fundamental. Gap piston systems use the gas from each bullet to push a rod that reloads the gun. Direct impingement vents those gases directly into the internal workings of the gun. DI is an outdated system that burns through lube and puts extra strain on parts. The M27 is switching to gas piston because it's simply a better system.

Aaaaahhhhhhhh
>>
>>33605656
Well the M27 is better. That's why it's being adopted. The free-floating barrel offers improved accuracy at approximately 2 MOA compared with 4.5 MOA for M16A4 rifles. I googled that and got it from the M27 wiki page.

No open bolt, and no 60 rounders. It's a first gen 416 with a heavy 16" barrel. Dumb fucks didn't even go with the A5 like everyone else.
>>33605735
>Direct impingement vents those gases directly into the internal workings of the gun.
No, gases come back into the receiver through the barrel from the lowered pressure after the bolt opens. It's the reason they have bore evacuators on tank guns. The Stoner system actually vents gases out of the ejection port like pic related.
>>
Good lord theres some serious retardation going on in here. Just google the gun for Christ's sake.
HK is Piston Driven
>6000-8000 rounds before needing a cleaning
M4 is DI
>2000 rounds before needing a cleaning.

Piston is the way of the future niggas
>>
marines:

>we need a piston gun. they're better.

>are you going to stick it in or not

marine:

>after this glass of aqua velva
>>
>>33605735
The AR15 doesn't use DI, it uses Stoner internal piston. The vast majority of the gas brought into the receiver is vented outside of the rifle. Literally the only advantage of gas piston is sustained fire, and we're talking EXTREME sustained fire. Enough to burst the gas tube.
>>33605793
The AR15 can fire for 20,000 rounds without cleaning as long as it's lubed every 1000 rounds. I'm sure the M27 can do the same, but it's heavier and more complex.
>>
>>33605800
>look like terrorists
I think you mean "shoot like terrorists"
>>
>>33605819

no, it's definitely look like terrorists.

>>

oh, you poor innocent thing.

you didn't know?
>>
>>33605808
you are fucking retarded. The Ar-15 is 100% Direct Gas Impingement

My piston LWRC has gone 6000 rounds without re-lubing once. DI cant do that my nigga
>>
given that the army is considering adopting the G28 as the standard infantry weapon im now in flux about which branch is stupider.
>>
>>33605865
Well, I'm fucking done with this shit hole. See you all mid-September.
>>
>>33605883

>>
>>33604230
Barrel length is the extra weight and marines are manlets.
>>
>>33605883
>See you all mid-September.

The mouthbreathers will still be here and be in greater quantity.
>>
>>33605865
It literally isn't you fucking retard, do some fucking research that isn't on wikipedia before spouting shit that is actually factually wrong.

There is literally no reason a rifle would need to be not lubed for 6000 rounds. It may sound impressive, but for an actual military or civ owner there is no need for that.
>>
>>33605976

Welp it looks like they just want HK shit pretty bad. Should we let them buy HK without protest and let them figure out it's overpriced?

That's exactly the shit that gets people's families kidnapped.

carbon 15 M4s do

Also, Why can't we include sustained fire as its advantages over M4?

because it's literally the only advantage that matters on the battlefield.
>>
>>33606092
What?
>>
>>33606043

HAHAHA

Looks like somebody didnt actually clean their chamber.

Protip for any aspiring Marines out there. Dont be a dick to the armorer inspecting your rifle because he knows where you did and didn't clean.
>>
>>33606111
The pic, sometimes people just haven't learned to be a decent human being yet.
>>
>>33606062
being that the gas key is essentially a very short piston, the AR doesn't resemble a standard piston gun in any tangible way.

I don't see anywhere on the Knight's website where the SR15 is referred to as a piston driven firearm. I also have never seen any reference to a piston driven firearm on any manufacturer's website where the product uses the traditional gas tube system. I do however find numerous references to DI or direct impingement on manufacturer's websites.

Referring to the Ar-15 as a piston operated gun is getting too deep into semantics. Everyone has came to a sort of consensus that the AR is considered DI. Maybe not 100% true DI...But certainly a sub-category of DI
>>
>>33606178
The gas key isn't the piston, the entire BCG is. The back of the bolt interacts with the BCG to form a gas chamber, acting as a piston. It just doesn't eject gas everywhere like a regular piston because it's in the receiver, so it shoots the gas out ports in the BCG.
They only refer to it as that because when piston guns came out, retards needed to differentiate between the two. If a manufacturer called an AR15 internal piston like it really is, barely anyone would know what it was at the first glace. Only the misinformed refer to the AR as DI, even if they do outnumber those who actually know their shit.

You've clearly never cleaned a DI AR so fuck off, any change to that system to make an AR easier to clean is welcome by me. The areas DI gets filthy are a bitch to clean, and is way harder to clean than a piston operated gun.
>The Stoner system actually vents gases out of the ejection port like pic related.
No it fucking doesn't. I wish it vented it straight out the ejection port, but it actually vents all the gases and carbon all over every part behind the barrel in the upper. Meaning a pain in the ass bolt and bolt carrier to clean, along with the tiny ass channel where the charging handle rides. not that a piston system would probably help but don't even get me started on cleaning the locking lug areas
Also ever shot a DI gun suppressed? Better be wearing glasses shitlord because all the gasses are going straight into your face. And obviously suppressors have a lot of value militarily.
