When will standard issue full face helmets for infantry be thing?

when we have the money for it

Why would you want to spend hours on patrol smelling your own sweat and stanky MRE breath?
What about cheek weld to your rifle?
>>33601778
>he doesn't chew the gum
When cooling and optics advance to the point they beat clear lines of vision and overheating
when wearing a mask stops being unbearable
When they figure out how to take the weight off your spine.
Pic related
never probably because i think not being able to see the person you're talking to or easily identifying people on base will be a problem.
>>33601822
Fucking story time.
>>33601539
a few years for the Army. They're developing the gen 2 ACH that comes with a mandible attachment. Looks like a motorcross helmet.
>>33602244
Pretty sure it's kill
>>33601539
Never ever
>>33601539
Pros:
>face slightly less susceptible to shrapnel
Cons:
>hard to breathe
>hard to see
>can't properly shoulder your weapon
>makes communication difficult
>doesn't actually protect you from very much
>limits head movement
>puts more weight on the neck
It's not a good idea, and it probably never will be.
>>33601583
well played sir
Attack of the clones was a long time ago buddy
>>33601539
>yeah sure, let's just add more for the infantryman to carry, he good at that.
>>33601539
When our polymers or composition metals become advanced enough that they can be lightweight enough to not fuck up necks, small enough to be able to rest a cheek weld, unless recoil mitigation systems become the common and so advanced by then that stocks are obsolete, and strong enough to withstand shrapnel or be boolit resistant.
>>33601912
nothing really. just herniated disc between the c5 and c6 after 9 years of being in the army.
>>33601539
When soldiers need protection from extreme amounts of UV radiation from their weapons.
>>33601799
Have you ever chewed MRE gum?
when cheek welds are no longer required for aiming
aka when see-through HMDs don't suck nuts
>>33601539
When exoskeletons.
>>33603928
>It's not a good idea, and it probably never will be.
Been here done that. When armor was able to provide actual protection users agreed to bear all cons. Thing is with modern balance of "sword vs shield" armor provides no protection. Helmets are easily penetrated by standard infantry weapons so all cons would be for nothing, for marginal increase in protection.
>>33604660
>calling that shit gum
Pencil erasers have better flavor
>>33601539
Maybe when HUD is a cheap thing. Helmets mostly really offer protection from frag and are mounting points for optics
>Give soldiers helmets that completely cover their faces
>People no longer have a problem killing them in the event of martial law/civil war because they're just faceless goons
That's one flaw I can think of, at least.

>>Yfw knight`s plate mail was lighter than modern armored west...
Different dangers, different solutions, comrade anon.
Wait you guys know of project Talos?

Wearing a fully enclosed helmet in combat is, apparently, psychologically unbearable. People experiencing the stress of combat need to be able to hear, feel, and smell unmediated stimulus directly through their own sensory organs.
>>33606869
then the answer is new brains
>>33606911
Or... bear with me on this one, how about no brain at all.
>>33606928
>>33601539
Former Infantry. Never.
They'd fuck up our peripheral vision. Plus ever been to Iraq? Too hot.
This isn't the moon on Endor. Or whatever you Disney kids claim Star Wars. You little shits.
>>33601539
The added weight and loss of vision doesn't really justify it, honestly. We are already moving away from a decent portion of human to human fighting; we aren't sitting in trenches and popping shots off at each other all day. Full face shit doesn't really seem worth it for an entire military force to carry around all day, everyday. Specialized teams like GIGN and shit, for specialized missions sure, but they already do it.
when we /k/ in space!
>>33601822
That's the thing: armours with necks are a meme
>>33606928
I thought marines were already majority black
>>33606670
The gun holstered on the back of that shield should be the other way around so that it can more easily be accessed by the right hand without having to bend the wrist at such an angle.
>>33604784
When endoskeletons
>>33607837
I think you're supposed to draw it with your left hand as you drop the shield.
>>33608664
Why not both?
>>33601539
Have they resolved peripheral vision for any prototypes?
I mean if you had some kind of VR esque screen it could actually increase FOV and situational awareness, but if that goes to shit in a firefight your blind for a couple of seconds
