>>33602032
Retardedly simple. Do you have one? Take a look. No gas system on pumps. Few moving parts. Non-rotating bolt. The trigger is the most complex part on most. They're hard to fuck up. No wonder they're so cheap.
Just picked up this Model 12 Featherweight today.

Going to try to rework the crushed checkering on the wood (not pictured), maybe send it out to be reblued or something come fall. That's just spray on coating on it now...It barely had any finish left on it but the insides looked fine, oddly enough.
Shoots well, I like it so far.

On that note, some newer Mossberg 500s have some cheaper Maverick style parts on them, like the pump handle.
If you get one like this and want to change the pump, you'll need the slide tube assembly to put the new part on. It's like a $60 part. I didn't know this and was highly confused when I tried to change mine.
You can tell by looking, the 'real' ones have a sort of metal tube inside the pump/slide handle and the maverick style ones are just molded plastic.

>>33607917
>>33606619 here, it's worth it only if you really want all of the magpul stuff. It comes with the magpul stock, forend, sling attachment mounts, and cheek riser piece for the stock. If all you wanted was the stock, I think it's a bit cheaper to buy separately. The stock is good for home defense/tactical setup because the length of pull and cheek weld are adjustable. The original stock is way too long for most people. Note that the 590A1 magpul comes with 20" barrel, 8 shot tube, and xs ghost ring sights with rail. These also bump up the price. I'm slightly regretting my choice because the thing is super front heavy loaded. 18" barrels are so much more maneuverable and non-A1 is a lot lighter. If you don't want all the magpul stuff and don't care for ghost ring sights, get the other models. I think a regular 590 18" is the best for home defense in the 500 series lineup.

Yes, the 11-87P I bought I think in 2012 and still have the box. The pic is actually an older pic in my phone, the shotty now wears a Surefire weaponlight handguard. Only other mod was I changed the charging handle. Needs nothing else, this shotgun is fucking fantastic. Doesn't cycle small loads though. Older models can, but newer models were designed this way. Can be modified to accept low recoil loads by widening gas ports.
The 870P I have had for several years as well. Also have a second one that has a lovely Remington "petina" and the older LPS weaponlight handguard.
I have never had any issues whatsoever with the Police models.

>>33608645
I have that shotgun myself, anon! I've thought about cutting down the barrel just for giggles. I also went with a rubber buttpad, it really helps for if you wanna shoot 3" shells out of the damn thing.
>>33611345
It's not worth it to buy a police model. You're better off with upgrading the express. The metal trigger guard is the fucking meme of all memes. You can buy the police parts or better aftermarket versions for less than the difference between the express tactical and police guns.
Working over a Wingmaster is also an option.
>>33610681
If that's true, it's impressive. All I have seen of that style reflex sight, regardless of brand, all fail pretty quickly on centerfire rifles and shotguns.
Glad it's working for you. Don't poke the bear and just run it until it eventually gives up. In your case it sounds like a good investment.
>>33611535
I've heard new Express 870s are the most shoddily put together, though.
>>33611458
>all of the "post-2008 rem sucks"
Yeah, this is all horseshit. Considering the volume of products Remington produces the instances of problems are marginal- it's just that with today's instant and widespread information resources over the Internet, defective products get blown out of proportion. And if you notice it's usually never first hand accounts. In fact the only "proof" of "quality control issues" of Remington products I have seen was a Remington 870 that was drilled and tapped I believe for a rail that was off center, but even then, WHO exactly did it is suspect. Most of this "post-2008" centers around negative publicity of it being purchased by Freedom Group & Cerberus who idiots seem to think are "anti-gun" and seemingly want to purposely put out defective firearms so that people stop buying them? How's that logic? I'll tell ya, it's fucking stooooopid!
>Do you know if it's possible to upgrade the lamp?
Your best and easiest bet is to buy the "P60L" bulb. This is an LED upgrade, but make sure to use the newer Z44 bezel as well. A company called Malkoff makes a drop in insert but it won't fit inside this weaponlight without some modification (need to hollow out the light a tad.) Malkoff sells an entire replacement light unit but I like the look of the old style. I have several of the weaponlights. Don't have the Malkoff but I do have a P60L and it's pretty good. Only problem is they have been discontinued. They pop up on eBay but tend to be pricey.
>>33611593
the price difference is enough to pay a gunsmith to work it over properly and end up with a better product
>>33611535
The edge over the Express is that the Police models will have a better quality control. In addition to the batter springs and extractor, the chamber is worked over better. As far is the metal trigger guard, I heard that they are putting plastic guard on new Police models now. Not sure if this is true or not. The magazine chamber of the Express model will need some modification if you want to add an extension. For all the work getting an Express and "upgrading" it with police parts, you might as well get a fucking Police model. Buy one used. There are plenty of companies that sell Police Dept trade-ins for like $300 or cheaper.
>>33611624
Do you think the Malkoff units are worth it? $100 is cheaper than buying a new forend and light, and I like the retro look of the forend. I haven't picked up my 870 yet because of CA bullshit, so I'm not sure if the old incandescent bulb is bright enough, but I am going to guess no.

590 packernized with Magpul furniture and ghost ring sights
>>33611375
They think they can improve and that nothing is collectible or historical especially if it's cheap.
>>33611809
Too be perfectly honest, if you are meaning to have this as a home defense shotgun, you don't want to got too bright, as the light will likely bounce off the walls (if you have white or light colored walls) as give a sort of blindness. I prefer the incandescent. If you want, try and find the three battery Surefire unit that uses a P90 incandescent bulb. I don't have a Malkoff but A lot of people seem to swear by them over at candlepowerforums. The P60L bulb is good.
My 11-87 has the newer LM2 LED upgrade and it is too bright as I stated for my taste. I just found an LM1 (one battery module) and will try that when I get back home.
Having said that, go to Malkoff's site, they have units of varying degree of brightness. Do a google search and you will find comparative light shots of the units in image search.

holding shells is the worst possible thing. youd be better off using rope or an extension cord as a sling.

Do you hate your shoulders?
Any thoughts on birdshead grip shotguns? Are they meme-tier? Is there a better option?
>I am not allowed a handgun
I work outside in deep wilderness and I'm looking for a catch-all defensive option that is easy to transport.
A couple weeks ago a hiker was shot in the same area that I work (he confronted car thieves targeting parked cars at the trailhead and it didn't end well), and I see bear on a regular basis. Those are my two main concerns.

yes

I'm thinking buckshot's not enough for bear.

They're not as difficult to shoot as the memes say, but you'd still be better off with one that has a stock unless a stock is just not at all an option for you.

Pistol grip shotguns are for hot chicks in movies

I already have a Mossberg 500 with an 18.5" barrel and the shorter youth stock (what I am currently carrying), but I'm finding it's still too large to easily throw (or strap to) my pack. This means it just gets left in the truck most of the time in favour of bear spray.
But I'm not super worried about bear to be honest. Mostly worried about thieves or stumbling upon a grow-op (this has happened once before). I just figure if I'm going to carry a gun it might as well be capable of stopping bears too.
I've also looked at folding things like the Sub-2000 but it just seems like a shitty pistol.

have you considered folding stocks?

Shit I'm late. It's a Savage 69RXL. My stepdad carried it on watch in the Navy. I bought it from him. It's a solid gun. Got it for $130.

Sure... an earthquake can happen. A North Korean Nuke can drop, plus over 9000 other things can happen as well.
You want to live your fucking life in fear? Put your belt and CCW on while you shower, bro... you autistic fuck
Jesus Christ.

Do you even realize where you are right now?

The hottest part
Is the Mossberg 930 a good first shotgun?
I've seen videos of the action of it, and it looks pretty damn sweet.
Right now it's 380 dollars on gunbuyer.

Nice Vepr.
>I know the stock doesn't fold all the way with that drum in though.
Here's mine.

Quite frankly, THIS is the only reason to see that fucking movie. Of course, I have to mute out the southern accent

If you want a semi, it would be the one I'd recommend. I got one for clay shooting, and when I upgraded to an O/U I put an 18" barrel on it.
Great gun, in my experience.
