The more coyotes you kill, the more there will be. Why do you think they've spread out across the country in the past century despite attempts to eradicate them? When you kill a coyote, the next time they do roll call at night the female coyotes will take note of the missing coyotes. They'll then go into heat, have more pups than usual, and the pack will split apart and form multiple new packs in the region.

don't shoot coyotes unless you have a valid reason to (IE you are losing livestock/pets). They are very important to the local ecoystem in most places.

If you want something to shoot, go hog hunting. Do some research on your area, but they are usually an invasive species. Which means you can do shit like pic related with no quarrels at all from anyone.
>>
>>33600290
relevant:

>Feral swine are aggressive animals that can be extremely destructive to fields, fences, and facilities. Their wallows can affect ponds and wetlands, muddying the water and destroying aquatic vegetation. They can strip a field of crops in one night and pose a threat to ground-nesting birds and some endangered species. Feral swine also can transmit diseases and parasites, such as pseudorabies, brucellosis, and tuberculosis, to livestock and people.

That said i did take a few with my 6.5 at 500yds last week. It was neet but not something i plan to do much.

Kill them all
>>
>>33600397
Why is the range of coyote's across America wider today than ever before? We've been trying to exterminate them for over a century. The more you kill, the more they breed and spread.
>>
>>33600415
We killed all the wolfs.

Cyotes are now the alpha predator. Theu bread prodigiously , and can adapt to the climate of 95% of america with ease.
>>
>>33600415
That logic makes absolutely no sense.

They're spreading because the food supply has exponentially increased, white tail deer populations are rising as are other animals.
>>
>>33600433
The wolves have been dead for a very long time. It's only in recent decades that the spread of coyotes has accelerated, coinciding with the accelerated hunting of them.

>>33600449
If you don't kill ALL the females in a coyote pack, the remaining females will respond to the killing by having even more pups. Coyotes are moderately social animals who keep track of each other. When associate coyotes go missing, the remaining coyotes notice it and respond. It's an evolutionary strategy that has been effective at preventing their extermination for many decades.
>>
>>33600477
Wild Animals breed at literally every opportunity available to them.

You're just retarded.

Kill more coyotes.
>>
>>33600290
This. Also, when a coyote population is reduced it causes females to increase litter sizes to create a population boom. This is why we have coyotes fucking everywhere when 100 years ago they were only in the southwest.
>>
>>33600491
Kill more coyotes, and get more coyotes. Honestly it's no skin off my back. I don't own chickens or cats so I really don't give a shit.

>>
>>33602339
see: >>33602364

Coyotes are still around not for want of trying.
>>
>>33602364
Because the government has outlawed the most efficient methods of killing them, the fur trade has all but died (a single good mid-winter wolf pelt was worth about 3 years' living expenses in 1865, a single good mid-winter coyote pelt now won't buy dinner and a drink at a chain steak house today) and there are literally 1/10th as many coyote hunters today as there were wolf hunters in 1860 because of this.
>>
>>33602354
Wyoming. We've had to deal with the population boom of the Yellowstone timberwolves.
>>
when i was a kid my grandparents had two coyotes as pets, they were wild but really nice and they killed raccoons and possums

they'd hang around the house and my grandparents fed them, ever since then i've had a soft spot for the fuckers and wont kill them but if one fucked with me in the woods i would
>>
>>33602384
Wolves had a multinational, no-holds-barred fur trade going for 200 years and we still didn't drive them to extinction (same with beavers).

There are fewer hunters forced to use less effective methods hunting coyotes than what were used against wolves, across a much broader range of the country, in less than half the time. No shit they havent been as successful.

Again, jesus fucking christ do you know dick-all about conservation or did you skim the thread we had yesterday about the hippie that told NPR coyotes fuck more when some are killed and took it as immutable fact?
>>
>>33599213
>use for everything
>cans, bottles, boxers, and paper.
>>
>>33602409
This. Last year a radio-collared timberwolf got hit on the road in suburban Cheyenne, more than 200 miles from her "home range".
>>
>>33602399
Fucking shame that is.
Same as the candlestick makers, the coopers, and the telegraphists.
>>
>>33602463
>multinational, no-holds-barred
Let's put this in perspective.

The French, Canadian, US, British, Dutch, and Portuguese governments officially sponsored wolf-killing expeditions into the northern US/southern Canada and paid a bounty for every wolf killed for close to 70 years. The Canadians and US kept an unbroken string of bounties posted for any and all wolves killed from 1788 to 1971, and both the French and the US used their military for wolf extermination several times. A prime-condition wolf pelt would sell for nearly $100USD in 1850, which was about 2 years' wage in a steel foundry and more cash than most farmers would see in their entire life. A wolf hunter/trapper could literally make more money in a single winter than a New York banker would make in his whole career, and multimillion dollar dynastic fortunes were made by the expedition captains and fur industry bigwigs.

While the records are incomplete it's estimated that between 1800 and 1900 alone they killed over 11 million wolves in an area roughly twice the size of Texas, and that was only about half the time and less than a quarter of the total territory the fur trade and bounties covered.

Meanwhile US hunters have killed fewer than 250,000 coyotes since the USFWS started keeping track (whose records are also incomplete) in 1973.
>>
>>33601994
Bullshit, If you lose livestock or pets, have at it. If not let them be.
>>
>>33602326
Wait until its your livestock and say that.
>>

>>
>>33602585
Eh. Technology marches on. I don't see anyone lamenting the loss of ditch diggers, huskers, or cotton pickers.

In the 1800's fur was the best available insulation. Technology changed that and relegated fur to strictly fashion. Then we gave women the right to have an opinion and now even that's frowned upon because everything with good fur is also "cute".
