Does /k/ have any experience with Holographic sights specifically from eotech.
Thinking of picking one up for my scar-h.
Pic relatable.

I have the EXPS3-4 on my AUG and it's pretty awesome. It would be infinitely more useful if there were long distance ranges around here but I still like it nonetheless

According to real operators, a good 1-6x variable is better in every way.

I couldn't imagine trying to use a 1-6x for a home defense application. IMHO that's really the only place an RDS or holo has over traditional scopes

A little
>>
>>33598765
Red dots do have a slight edge in CQB but with training a variable is just as fast.
>>
>>33597933
If youre fine with your dot floating all over the place whenever you take it outside your moms airconditioned basement, sure.
>>
>>33597933
I owne this exact model. Liked it at first but after using it a ton I really would rather just have a 1-6x as I keep the magnifier up 99% of the time. Once again, great if you have a job and make money, shitty if you're a poorfag.

Wrong. With training they can be almost as fast, they will never be "just as fast"

These are my favorite kind of comments. If Mike Vining came out tomorrow and said something like "real men use iron sights" people would be shitposting about it for YEARS.

>you're not an operator
>you'll never operate

pic related, it's yfw you justify buying 1-6x because an "operator" said so but you only bench shoot and/or occasionally magdump into a piece of paper that's 50m away.
>>
>>33599164
so what do you advise?
cuz I only do shooting-range?

I'd advise you to buy whatever you want based on what you like, and your budget. In the military I shot M4's with M68s, EoTech's, ACOG's and Elcan's -- As a civilian I chose an EoTech XPS 2-0 (and Vortex 3x magnifier) for my AR15.

Why? Because I got a new EoTech for $300. That was my reasoning. Don't listen to people who jerk off to "operator" advice.

On 1x it's very similar to a rds. you don't have infinite eye relief, they're heavier, and battery life doesn't compare.
I wouldn't feel hinderd with it in a home defense situation as long as the battery isn't dead, but I always forgot to turn it off.
>>
>>33599196
It really comes down to, do you want magnification or not. If you do, get a 1-4 or 1-6, if not, a rds.
>>
>>33597933
Don't use it in cold weather boss.
>>
IMO for general purpose use on an intermediate caliber rifle in order of greatness:

>1-6, 1-4 or 1-8 variable.
>A fixed prism optic 3 or 4x
>Red dot or holo sight
>4-12 scope or similar

Protip; don't. Get an Aimpoint micro.

>RDS+magnifiers added a lot of weight but 1-6x weigh just as much without even taking into account an extra ~8 oz qd mount
>ergonomics of pushing a magnifier sideways is awkward, but throwing a dial is 100 percent A-OK completely different
>completely forgets to bring up the 150 hour battery life of reticle illumination - aimpoint fags could never accept this as anything less than 5 figures of battery life measured in hours is unacceptable
>"true 1x" is just as good

Dropped.
>>
>>33597933

If you want a non-magnified sight, get an Aimpoint. It's a more simple design that is both more durable and energy efficient as a result.

If you want a magnified sight, get a scope.

EoTechs automatically turn off after some amount of time.
I own the exact EOTech as what is shown in the OP. If you have astigmatism or bad eyes in general, holographics due this weird starburst shit when looking through them. It's less pronounced when wearing corrective lenses but is still kinda there.

I can't vouch very well for the thermal drift due to the fact i don't live in a climate of extreme temperature drifts and pretty much only do indoor shooting.

If you want one OP there's nothing wrong with it, just use whatever you think is more comfortable and practical to you.

>I couldn't imagine using a 1x optic for home defense

This is how stupid you sound
>>
>>33597933

Don't get one if you have bad eyes/astigmatism, you won't be able to use it for shit
>>
>>33598480
a 1.5 -7 or similar is best on a 223 as long as it has an it you can use with nv and can also sight without power steel tube and good light transmission and fine turret adjustment is a bonus. 4x is very limited and putting a large moa dot with no mag on a rifle is moronic. iron sights on see thru or cowitness exist and need no batteries
>>
>>33598480
1-6x has no true 1x capability, and also you can't cowitness
>>
>>33606634
you can while wearing glasses/contacts but its not 100% perfect.
>>
>>33606146
But what if you have to deal with long-range?
