Good evening /k/ I bought this 20in upper a gun show.
It's specs are,
>20in 1:8 .223 Wylde
>Free floated rail
I got it for $300 even, so how did I do? And could you guys help with irons, optics, grip suggestions, any help would be appreciated.
>>33594233
>1:8
Possibly the worst mistake you've ever made.
>chambered in .223 wylde and not 5.56x45
thats your first mistake
>Railed gas block
You fucked up desu
>>33594233
>quadrail
blippity bloppity you done fucked it up mightily
>>33594267
How so? 1:8 seems the best all around choice.
>>33594280
.223 Wylde is best of both worlds, it can handle 5.56 and is more accurate with .223.
>>33594314
Worked fine when I was in the Corps.
Are you guys gonna drop any real advice, or just shitpost?
>>33594378
Because it's not a match barrel.
I've never seen a non-match 1:8 or 1:9 shoot as well as a non-match 1:7. Companies are just fucking incapable.
The other two replies are just retarded though. You should probably get that gas block pinned, or have whatever you replace it with pinned.
>>33594378
>.223 Wylde is best of both worlds, it can handle 5.56 and is more accurate with .223.
Agree.
$300 would be very good if you got a BCH and charging handle with it.
>>33594233
You did very well.
>>33594452
It's pinned. It's got two on the bottom of the rail.
>>33594463
BCG, oops
>>33594463
Already have a Spikes BCG and a charging handle, I'm replacing my 16in upper.
>>33594473
Are you sure you don't mean it's got set screws? You can't exactly pin it from the bottom.
>>33594498
Sorry I didn't look, it has no pin, is that bad?
>>33594516
It's not horrible, but without being pinned it will eventually work itself out of place. It'll probably take a while though, no reason to worry about it.
>>33594547
Alright, the guy gave me his business card I'll just KILL him and his family.
>>33594564
you wont be doing it with that, all those t post markings will give you away for miles.
>>33594547
Took a further look, it has the gas adjustment key, if it came loose it would crimp the gas tube, how likely is that?
>>33594609
>Rail covers.
I've got TONS of the rubber fuckers, and some I snagged from Uncle Sam.
What's the difference between mid-length and carbine gas systems?
>>33594668
The length
>>33594668
Midlength is really meant more for a 16/18 while a carbine is more for a 14.5
Midlength also has slightly softer recoil impulse
To OP: You did mostly ok, but those quadrails are going to weigh a fuck ton.
I got a 1:8, 223 Wylde, 416 R upper with a '12 keymod, partial rail for the same price... so you still did okay.
>>33594668
From my experience, mid-length runs cooler than carbine, and blows less carbon back.
>>33594691
Oh: It was also a 16' with carbine gas, so a 20' with midlength/rifle is actually a little impressive.
>>33594691
Not worried about weight, humped a 240 rifle is no biggie. And weight mitigates recoil, I usually shoot my C93 It's around 9/10 lbs with A3 stock.
>>33594729
If that's the case, you did pretty gud.
I personally would have aimed for a 5R/416R barrel at 20 inches considering you're in SPR territory... but it's your call.
>>33594635
Wait, the fucker spent money on an adjustable gas block but didn't have it pinned?
>>33594760
I thought since it had a key it would be pinned by being PART of the gas system rather than a after fact. Do I have to get rid of it? I LIKE the upper....
>>33594679
muh tizzies
>>33594691
thanks midlength queation
>>33594798
You don't have to get rid of the upper, you can just replace the gas block. You need a small punch to remove the roll pin holding the gas tube and block together though.
>>33594857
Got it, though I did a little research and found out that if the set screws are properly installed it would be fine. The Mk 12 just used set screws to keep its rail block in place.
>>33594900
That's why I said it would "eventually" come off, and that it wasn't that big of a deal.
>>33594729
>humped a 240 rifle is no biggie
>>33594657
>some I snagged from Uncle Sam.
>>33594378
>Worked fine when I was in the Corps.
>>33594934
Sorry, I didn't put the comma between the 240, and rifle.
People lose rail covers ALL THE TIME.
I got my first in my cammies after ITB.
>washing cammies, empty pockets, rail cover comes out.
And what's the problem with rails? The M16A4 has them, and those aren't free floated.
