It does actually. The US more often than not has the dominant position in trade as a byproduct of control of the global commons which means you can get the computer you're using to shit post for $300 at Walmart rather than $5000 through a mail order catalog from China, as an example.

because the republicans don't give a shit about gun rights and only have it on their ticket because the Democrats are against it.

Also trump promised a bunch of other shit that they're focusing on passing and failing horribly at. Obamacare still stands, the immigration ban failed, and now they're kind of just looking for some kind of victory to prove to their followers that they still have a plan and aren't just winging this shit as they go.
>>
>>33591363
Not even a reform bill, just the same fucking repeal that they passed 60 fucking times while Obama was in office. They're all hot air.

WILDfires, not forest fires. There's an important distinction.

t. wife is forestry major
>>
>>33592214
Yea, I definitely agree. Outlawing certain groups of people, or certain times, from speaking about the government is definitely in keeping with the 1st Amendment to the US Constitution.
>>
>>33592928
And it must be noted that that ad campaign actually made things worse, since minor forest fires are kind of a necessity, especially in Cali, but they got people keeping minor fires from going up which let fuel build of for huge, raging fires. Which destroys the ecosystem instead of refreshing it. Some of the trees even use the heat from natural fires to open their seed pods.

>they are going to take back seats in 2018 anyway.

Not likely. They have 23 Senate seats coming up for reelection, vs 9 for the GOP. Odds favor the GOP holding even or possibly adding a couple. Dems gained 2 in 2016, significantly fewer than they were projected to take.

The Dems are projected to make some gains in the House, not enough to get a majority though.

They're totally on the defensive right now. Expect it to remain that way until at least 2020, and maybe 2024.

the filibuster for court seats only has existed since 2003. the united states got along just fine for over two hundred years appointing judges to the supreme court with only 51 votes in the senate.
>>
>>33591096
HPA sucks.

Get a bill to repeal the NFA going.
>>
>>33593272
The problem isn't so much the filibuster or no, it's the Republicans ignoring their requirement for holding confirmation hearings, even to vote no, on a perfectly suitable candidate many of them had praised in his appointment to a lower court because he was nominated by a president they'd dickishly decided to stonewall everything on.
>>

>destroy privacy
Really? Because it seems to me that is consistently the Republicans who fight that shit.
If you're just being dramatic about that internet nonsense where the ISP can sell anonymized mass telemetry, well, then you're just being dramatic. All the republicunts did was prevent a bill from going into effect which would have prevented those sales (which have been ongoing for quite some time), so really, they changed nothing in the end. A bum move but hardly something to get in a twist over, if you gave even the slightest fuck about your online privacy you secured your shit after the Snowden leaks at the very latest. The democrats have supported tons of mass surveillance measures and tried to destroy individual privacy in the ACA, various gun control measures, and countless other places.
On the other shit you're about 50/50 but those sentiments apply to dems accurately as well.

The article concerning appointments by the POTUS with the advice and consent of the Senate doesn't actually state that this advice and consent is mandatory. And only the Senate can set rules for the Senate.

You do when you keep the straight of Hormuz open so that OPEC can't blame that for decreasing production/raising price per barrel.

Our interaction in the MENA is possibly one of the biggest influences in our victory over the USSR. Ergo making Soviet petroleum exports, essentially their only remaining profitable economic sector, virtually worthless.

>but i thought the constitution doesn't apply to non-citizens? isn't that the whole point of gitmo and black sites?

Everybody within the US has Constitutional protections, whether they're a citizen or not. Note that I used the term protections, not rights. In a nutshell, this means that anybody physically within the US is entitled to due process. However, non-citizens don't enjoy the full range of Constitutional rights as citizens.

Gitmo and the black sites aren't on US soil, therefore we can take liberties with rights and protections there. It's a moot point anyhow. The detainees aren't lawful combatants under international law. They could be executed, if we so chose.

We can still preserve the 1st while making elections 100% public funded with 0 outside money allowed. The 1st says nothing about money in elections. I dare say, 100% public funding is even closer in spirit to the intent of the 1st since it makes us focus solely on that the fuck the candidates are saying so their message drives the election, and not graft.

I'll remind you that the first travel ban included people with green cards, permanent legal residents. Their home is here and they suddenly found themselves unable to re-enter the country with no notice.

Similarly, it could be argued that once a visa, especially a difficult to acquire one like a refugee visa, is acquired, they have been granted protections to travel within the US under the terms of that. And taking that away after 2 years of vetting and review is especially cruel of Trump.

>small government

The GOP hasn't been about "small government" since the vast majority of /k/ has been alive. It's a catch-phrase, essentially the flip-side of the vapid sloganeering that has replaced intelligent discourse on the left. Reagan, Bush, Nixon, all of these Republicans have been responsible for huge increases in the size and scope of the federal government.

The GOP talks a good game about "small government" when they're a minority party or there's a Democrat in the WH, but as soon as they seize power they jack up spending and give the government and corporate America more power over the individual.

Not just that, but because they always cut taxes for the rich and fuck over the poor, they decrease revenue sharply. And they love cutting expenditures that are tiny while increasing big ones.

Hence why the deficit has constantly grown bigger under Republicans. And Kansas and Louisiana, "demonstrator" states for GOP economic policy, have crashed and burned under Brownback and Jindal.

because Saudi Arabia isn't a quasi failed-state like Libya, Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Somalia, nor is it's government's official motto "Death to America" like Iran.

Unfortunately thanks to cucks like you we can't just ban Muslims, so we have to come up with a plausible justification for a ban. Simply possessing a population of Muslim extremists is not adequate justification so long as the government officially supports us, if it were we'd have to ban half of Europe as well since they also have large populations of violent jihadists thanks to the assinine policies of religious "tolerance" from idiots like you.

Therefore we can't ban travel from Saudi Arabia.

I'm pretty sure you're thinking of the first *partisan* filibuster for a court seat in 2003, considering we've had SC nominations filibustered before (ie Fortas in '68) and I'd be more than willing to bet a fair few other seats.

A non-US citizen situated on non-US soil or non-US controlled lands does not have any US constitutional rights. The US could restrict immigration based on country of origin (we have), the views of immigrants (we have) or the race of the immigrants (we have). All would be Equal Protection violations if the would be immigrants had US constitutional rights-but they don't. The US could ban all black immigrants and a black man in Nigeria could not raise an Equal Protection claim.

Going back about 100 years, the Supreme Court has held that Congress' Article I powers on immigration are plenary i.e. they are complete and without qualifications. But that doesn't stop the Left from trying. In 1970 the US denied a visa to one Ernest Mandel- a Marxist scholar. Mandel was scheduled to speak at several US conferences and universities. The government denied his visa because there was a statutory exclusion against granting visas for aliens who promoted communism. In other words, the government had an immigration policy which favored those who had certain beliefs. This would have been a 1st Amendment violation if Mandel had 1st Amendment rights. But for the reasons I cited, he doesn't. But the people at the universities and conferences argued that their 1st Amendment rights were being violated because they were being denied the right to hear certain viewpoints (the Court had previously held the 1st Amendment protected the right to hear certain speech). The case made it to the Supreme Court (Kleindienst v. Mandel) The Court agreed that the plaintiff's 1st Amendment rights were infringed by the immigration policy, but they held that Congress' plenary powers on immigration are not restricted by an infringement of a 3rd party's 1st Amendment rights. Of course, here we are talking about freedom of religion where as in Kleindienst they were looking at freedom of speech. But that is a distinction without a difference-they are both 1st Amendment rights.

No, it's just the largest source of the extremist Muslim culture of the region because Wahhabiism is the state version of the religion and they push its beliefs to the rest of the region.

>Unfortunately thanks to cucks like you we can't just ban Muslims, so we have to come up with a plausible justification for a ban.
