Does anyone have experience reloading .22lr? I asked the guy at my gunstore and he said he could order in the equipment, would be around $600.
>>
>>33584906
not possible to put powder into such a tiny case
what most reloaders so is chew up the powder and mix it with saliva then spit a bit into the casing
>>
>>33584913
There's this old cowboy trick where you put priming compound in your urethra, then gently tap the casing into your peehole with a rubber mallet to get an even spread.
>>
>>33584913
>>33584918

Don't listen to these fags, they're telling two halves of the process. Everyone knows you mix the powder with your piss, then you put the solution in your mouth, load an empty case into a gun, put the barrel in your mouth and blow really really hard.
>>
>>33584906

Check google, you can find pretty decent quality one for 100 bucks. My bro bought one off midway for like 130, he's handloaded a few thousand rounds with no problems.
>>
No experience here but I've seen this in a magazine:
https://sharpshooter-22lr-reloader.myshopify.com/products/22-reloader-kit

And it's a lot cheaper than $600.
>>
>>33584938
>>33584944
Jesus, I'm glad I didn't order them. I'm telling that guy to shove his order up his ass next time I'm in there. I only go in there to buy .243 because for some reason it's only $40 a box.
>>
>>33584970
>$40 a box for .243

What fucking solid gold bullet .243 are you buying???
>>
>>33584970
most .243 Win is around $20/box or $1/round, common for a lot of full power cartridges that aren't adopted by a military.

Why in God's name would you reload .22lr?

If you really hate yourself, this guy has a guide to do it cheaply enough.

I bought this from Bud K for 80 bucks.
Not because I want to reload .22, but for my little NAA black powder pistol.
>>
>>33585421
.243 match ammo can be pretty expensive.
>>
Why reloading .22LR tho? Except for the 'because you can' reason, I've seen a video about this and it's a tedious and results poor task.
>>
>>33584970
You want to reload .22lr but you're paying $40 a box for .243 Win? You've gotta be trolling.
>>
>>33584944
Is this for fucking real?

Some reloading fag confirm for me please, if this is all you need to reload .22 I'm fucking buying one.

I always thought you couldn't reload rimfire at all
>>
>>33586279
You can, it's just a more involved process.
>>
>>33586424
Is it really as simple as some acetone and fucking match heads?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTf62hDhefY

The Internet lied to me... I always thought that reloading .22 was too tedious and not really cheaper than just buying factory made... holy fuck I'm going to start doing this now. Why doesn't everyone do this if it's this easy?
>>
>>33586484
Do some math. Box of matches is 300 ct, divided by 5 is 60 rounds.

3 bucks a pack. For 3 bucks, you could buy 50 rounds.

Now, factor in the cost of the lead at like a buck.50 for a single pound, which will make you 175 bullets

Shit man, at 6 cents a round according to ammoseek, its just not fuckin' worth it
>>
>>33586621
Eh. I guess. Buying matches off brand and in bulk--or buying the chemical from the tips in bulk--would probably make it significantly cheaper.

Also, it's a good skill to have for SHTF. Make black powder from piss and charcoal, primer compound from acetone and matches, and bullets from melted-down fishing sinkers and wheel weights you scavenge, and you have a pretty sustainable, self-sufficient survival weapon.
>>
>>33586621
>>33586639

Just the knowledge alone in SHTF makes you a popular person to have around.

Guy 1: "We need someone to eat"
Guy 2: "Maybe Greg?"
Guy 3: "Greg is the only one who knows how to make more ammo"
Guy 1: "Let's go find Phil to eat"
>>
>>33586639
https://thearmsguide.com/10187/priming-compound/

penny a round for the compound in a sort of bulk package

save 4 cents a round by spending 5 minutes of your time

could literally due online transcriptions or something in a much smaller timeframe and just buy more premade shit instead

also, the idea of being self-sufficient is great and all, but with how cheap 22 is i literally see no reason to ever bother reloading the shit.
>>
>>33584906
$600?

>>
>>33586621
add in what your time is worth and you could be 10x better off flipping burgers and buying .22 with your paycheck.
>>
>>33587080
What what if I need silver rounds?
>>
>>33584906
It can be done, but unless you're looking to make your own loadings, I'd seriously just not bother, it's a lot of effort and it's just not worth it financially unless you do it on a large scale, which will be tedious and drawn out to do.

If you want to make a bit of savings on your empty .22 casings, then you'd be better off having it recycled or scrapped.
>>
>>33586639
Or you could pick a more practical cartridge for that if you need a small game round that you desperately need to scavenge for, like .22 Hornet or .38 Special

Centerfire cartridges can be reloaded easily. If needed, you can disassemble a spent primer, punch out the dent (carefully), put in a new compound, reassemble, then seat it back in the case.

Modern rimfire ammo is made more reliable by the fact that priming compound is centrifuged into the hollow rim, this requires equipment you don't have, and I don't think your handloaded ammo will be as reliable.
>>
>>33587095
Making silver bullets is unimaginably tedious and advanced because you need to account for loads of shit, empty cavities and bubbles will form if all you try to do is plain melt it and pour it into a mold.

It's way better to fasten a small piece of silver on the inside of a hollowpoint (or maybe coat it), because it's much easier to make consistent and not fucked up.
>>
>>33587095
what >>33587554
said, drill a hole in a premade bullet and add a silver dart, if what you're fighting needs solid silver it would still be cheaper and easier to pull the lead slug and tap in a hand made silver one. i'd recommend swaging them, but the easiest way would be to chuck a bit of silver rod in a drill an spin it against a file to shape.

.22lr is cheap as fuck, why not just buy some bulk and call it a day? I'd get it if you reloaded .223,9mm,40sw,45acp,308,30-06, 8mm,7mm, Jap rounds, ect but 22lr? a box of 400 is $20 at achademy.

>>
>>33588347
>You cannot reload 22LR, the casings are useless after being fired once. also no company makes a die set for them

This is where you're wrong, kiddo.

You can reuse the cases, reprime the rim, put in your powder load and seat the projo just fine.

The problem is that it's not worth the effort for the price of new .22LR.

What people are missing is education part. Can it be reloaded? We have confirmed Yes. Is it cheaper than buying, not if you include time.

The true questions are: If you want to be able to reload your own .22lr is it worth it to get the tools and learn how to? Tools look cheap, comes with guide and powder amount is low. Is it a skill worth spending a weekend on and $100?

>>
>>33590475
It can be done, it's fun for the hobbyist but by rote it makes shit ammo.

If you have acetone and ,224 drill bil and scales all you need is a makeshift crimper and you can make your own anyway

I've mad 12 gauge slugs by drilling holes in timber and using that as a mould.

Thought

This would probably do a LOT better with real BP as pyrodex is not the same
>>
>>33590562
Fuck prepping but making your own 22LR bullets is a lot of interest for an autist like me.

Heeled 45 grain boat here I come. The trick is the acetone to get it in the rim, not the mould. Using plaster to cast aluminium moulds is not that hard

No, seriously, someone wrote a very involved and thorough article where they went through all the trouble, all the trial and error, of making functioning bullets cast out of silver.

Not as easy as casting lead, lemme see if I can find it, it was actually really interesting.

Ah, here it is: http://www.hurog.com/articles/silver/silverbullets.shtml
>>
>>33588505
Yes but it's still funny to make jokes about it.
>>
>>33587695
no seriously what the actual fuck is this gif
>>
>>33586484
you can buy it for 4 cents a round again. its not worth the time to reload, unless you are trying to make your own match grade custom shit, in which case the factory made stuff will still be better because of your unreliable ghetto priming system
>>
>>33590475
Right, but it seems like all the trouble he was having was simply incorrect amounts of powder. I think that system would have worked fine if you perfected the amount of powder that you should use

>>33590711
Newbie question: Why is it even BP or BP substitute that's being used? Why not modern smokeless? Wouldn't that run cleaner and produce more power anyway?

>>
>>33592677
>pellet gun is a lot easier to care for and feed.

Did you know you can cast and form ,117 and .22 pellets in a die?

Just saying.

Casting is wonderful
>>
If loading .22 was automated, it still wouldn't be worth it doing it.
>>
>>33588347
you can reprime it then hope your second firing has the firing pin hit the rim in a different spot
>>
>>33584906
Haven't done it, have read about it. Not worth it.

You have to use special tool to try to "iron out" the dimple from the firing pin strike.

The priming compound is a liquid and must be "spun" into the rim -- put a drop of priming compound in, then put the casing into a power drill to spin it around to distribute the priming compound.

Because the priming compound is a liquid, it used to be sold in bottles, which were dangerous as hell to schlep around. Drop bottle -=> kiss legs goodbye.

I've never seen any place selling the priming compound in my lifetime. You could probably make some crap at home, but why bother when .22 is selling for just a few cents a round? You'd be better off taking odd jobs like cleaning out toilets, and using the cash earned to buy ammunition.
>>
>>33586093
That's why you RELOAD to make your match ammo, because you can tailor it to what your rifle needs. My old Remington 700 would agg around half an inch with Federal Gold Match, by reloading I could get it down to around 0.35". 100 yards, 30+ round groups (not these stupid "I shot one bullet and the group size was zero!" comparisons the gun rags do).
>>
>>33586484
>acetone and fucking match heads
You do realize that "match heads" from strike-anywhere matches are chlorate, and that chlorate means "corrosive primers", right?

Enjoy pouring boiling water down your .22 bore to wash it out, the instant you get back from the range, to prevent it from rusting into a hulk.
