When talking about the possibility of another war with North Korea, everyone always points to their longest range artillery as the biggest threat to South Korea, that they'd use their artillery to fire some barrages into Seoul and kill as many people as possible.

I drew out these measurements on Google Earth, the red line is the circumference of a circle with a 60km radius (the range of their best artillery) with the center on Seoul, the blue measurement is the area from where NK could place their artillery and fire into SK, it is about 505sqkm. How fast could the US and SK secure this area and deny NK the ability to hit Seoul? Even without a single shell hitting the city?

Roleplay mode I guess, you're in charge of the Allied forces.
>>
Just bomb them lmao
>>
>>33584218
The war wouldn't start until those shells started hitting Soul.

There is no reasonable plan regarding the handling of the outbreak of a second Korean war that doesn't involve massive civilian causalities on both sides.

This also fails to take into account Nork SRBMs and IRBMs, as well as the fact that, while inflicting massive damage on Seoul is likely a major priority, it won't be the deciding factor in the war.
>>
>>33584286
Well the reason everyone says artillery is the biggest problem is that theres a missle defence system in SK and would hopefully deal with any NK missiles.

Norks can eat shit now.

>>
Would it be possible to put a CIWS system in Seoul, like the shit the US has on its bases in trashcanistan?
Would it be worth it?
>>
>>33584597
Unfortunately, those systems are far from infallible and they are not quick to build.

What C-RAM systems are available have to be assigned to defense of US/RoK counterbattery guns first, then other military infrastructure, and whatever is left over, if any, will be concentrated on Seoul evac routes, emergency services, or utilities like power plants.

>massive civilian casualties on both sides.

You say that like it's a bad thing. What you're telling me, is that we can kill hundreds of thousands of K-Pop faggots AND put communist lifeslaves out of their misery /at the same time/.

Let's send some missiles there way.
>>
>>33584218
Just flatten the place with airstrikes
>>
Thats some good OC, but the Norks are smarter than to waste their best artillery on civilian infrastructure.

They would more likely use their shorter range weapons to hit border military bases, then use the longer range weapons to hit the counterbattery-fire.

Buti don't want to be an ally. I want to be an elven ranger.

You have to be 18 to post here.
>>
>>33584218
Why don't we just wagon wheel a bunch of C-RAM and old 163 VADS around Seoul?
>>
>>33584267

This.

I'd pound that fucking town flat.
>>
>>33584218
So you want to dominate 505km2?

Assuming a bunch of disguised targets, you do an overflight with something stealthy that pulses look-down radar. It has to be pulses to avoid HARM, maybe three F35s in succession, if they really network their intel so well then each pilot can just fill in the gaps of their coverage as they go.

One you have an idea what you're doing, you need to drop a shitload of land-based seeker drones that go in and attack any kind of armour, arty or otherwise. These don't exist but basically, you just want one of those doggo-drones with a bunch of C4 strapped to it, it parachutes down from high-altitude, runs to its assigned coordinates, finds the nearest big hunk of steel and blows it the fuck up. Multiply that by about 1000 and you can have your area denial for arty.

Sorks already have some shotgun sentry turrets on the border so stick those on the back of some doggo-drones and you can do your AP area denial too.

The doggo-drones are dropped by some sort of heavy-lift, say some C130s, escorted by EF-111A Ravens. They fly above manpad range and the Ravens keep the large SAMs at bay.

I know Ravens are retired but we're roleplaying here. I'd bring them back if the beancounters didn't tell me that an F35 can probably do the same job.

1 hour or less from the start of hostilities. More than 2/3 of that area is within easy ATGM reach, and an advance of a mere 10 km across the border closes the pocket.
>>
>>33587367
Wtf kinda atgm are we talking about?
>>
Why did the South Koreans build their capital city so close to the demilitarized zone?
>>
>>33587480
most ATGMs have ~5 km max range. So draw the border set in 5km along the front and calculate its area, 324km^2, and then divide by initial 505, and suddenly you have 2/3 of the area covered by basic TOW 2Bs and javelins.
>>
>>33587606
Its not that close, outside of Koksan and missiles, nothing in North Koreas arsenal can range it.
>>
>>33587606
It's been the historic capital of Korea since the 14th century Joseon Empire. They ain't gonna move it cause some filthy communists might bomb it. Plus, their missiles can hit them regardless where they are in the peninsula, so no point.
>>
>>33584218
This is an absolute must-read if we're talking about North Korean artillery.

Are you so dumb that you think Seoul was settled after 1953?
>>
>>33584218
The biggest threat is not the artillery, the biggest threat is the ballistic missile force armed with WMD. A single low-yield nuclear warhead (NK has tested up to ~30kt) can deal a massive amount of damage. Attacks with nerve agents such as VX, which NK has a massive stock off, is similarly dangerous.

The way to prevent that is to decapitate the leadership before the launch order is given. Massive PGM attacks on all known areas the leadership may be, command and control facility, missile sites and WMD sites and hope you stop the missiles from leaving the ground.
>>
>>33589355
Seeing as they don't quite have a mounted warhead, I guess this war should happen as soon as possible if anyone wants to take out Kim.

Plenty of mounted VX warheads.

Also they are six tests in and build their own missiles, there is no reason to assume that they have not miniaturized enough to mount a warhead yet.
