Redpill me on the HK417

SEALs seem to like it

How could a seal use a gun of any kind? They have no opposing digits.. Serious replies only please.

>(Needlessly) Heavy

>Awkward handling because weight is up front

>Overpriced in the states (not HK's fault but still)

>Quadrail in 2k17

It's a memegun that should be in the dustbin of history alongside the ACR. Just get an Ar10.
>>
>>33578276
If it's so bad why did the French just buy 100k of them broski
>>
>>33578276
What's so bad about quadrails?
>>
>>33578174
Marksman rifle with battle rifle accuracy. A less original MK17. Will still get bought because "muh german engineering".
>>
>>33578387
The French bought HK416s to my knowledge, arguably even worse for the reasons I listed.

I suppose the French aren't concerned with ergos or weight issues for their grunts.

Heavy and a waste of material and space. They were good in their day, but Mlok and Keymod are objectively better than Quadrails at this point in every area but mounting speed.
>>
>>33578174
>redpill
You can buy it with your mom's credit card if that's what you're asking.
>>
Militaries seem to like it. A variant beat out the KAC rifle in a recent sniper competition for a US mil contract. Despite this, lot's of /k/ommandos appear to dislike the gun and believe that those militaries that chose it fucked up. I don't know who is correct.

As for the civie version, an old man let me shoot a group through his rifle. It was heavy and put holes where I pointed it, same as most LR308 rifles.
>>
>7.62RFN
>barrel under 20 inches

why?
>>
>>33578174
Its pretty cool, and its also expensive.
>>
>>33578174
Militaries like it over SCAR. I like HK because they don't hate you. FN are bigger faggots desu.
>>
>>33578588
Assuming you only lose 25fps, 16 isn't that much worse than 20, and it's a lot lighter.
>>
>>33579191
25fps per inch, I mean.

I like mine, super accurate, have had no reliability issues, and is very easy to clean.

SCAR is better in every conceivable way

>lighter
>better balanced
>lower maintenance
>folding stock
>comparable accuracy
>>
>>33579322
>lower maintenance
How? Ive owned both (sold the scar) and they were both pretty basic in maintenance.

>comparable accuracy
417 wins that hands down.
>>
>>33579348
Interested but different anon. How much difference in accuracy are we talking? Like, .1moa, or something like .5?
>>
>>33579371
Half-.75 MOA

at 100m I can consistently shoot 3/4 MOA in the 417 in the SCAR I could get 1.5 consistently and sometimes I could get. 1.25.

The 417 is the better DMR and the SCAR is the better battle rifle, scar is MUCH lighter. I would say ergos are the same, with the edge going to the scar mostly because it handles so much better due to being lighter.

I sold the SCAR because I have a PTR,M1A and a FAL to act as my 762 Battle rifles, while none of them offer the accuracy of the 417 (inb4 M1A is just as accurate)
>>
>>33579191
but you lose rifling length and the accuracy and precision that comes with it.

the whole point of full size rifles these days is to hit things far away.
>>
>>33579425
the 417 out-shot the KAC M110. So it doesn't affect it too much.

Hk417's competitor is SCAR 20 not 17. I hear G28s have steel upper receivers that are more rigid and even more accurate than 417s. Don't know if that's true.
>>
>>33579491
>Hk417's competitor is SCAR 20 not 17

You mean Was
>>
>>33578405
When they made the 417? Nothing. Also as far as weight goes, if it's not lighter than a SCAR 17 people will bitch. The gun is fine and one of the best rifles to date
>>
>>33578405
they're a bitch to hold onto all day with bare hands.

t. soldier that spent a year in Iraq with a Ma6A4 with bare quadrail handguards.
>>
>>33579502
"Was?" Did they pass away or something?
>>
>>33579425
Nah, you lose a little range and get a little wind drift
>>
>>33579534
the MK20 was passed over (along with the M110) for the new CASS weapon. As far as I know it is pretty much dead in the water.
>>
>>33579473
so a shorter barrel is fine, as long as you well trained and have the time and tools to compensate .

which isn't many DMR troops.

What about gloves?

No offense, but you sound like a bitch. Well, some offense.
>>
>>33579425
Barrel length has no effect on accuracy

Stop reposting fuddlore bullshit

Fuck off retard
>>
>>33579526
I find it hard to believe you couldn't come up with rail covers, it's not like they are hard to find or expensive. In fact they should have been issued to you.
>>
>>33579567
I'm not mil, but how many troops are making hits out past 500y under fire from some asshole with a PKM? Not going to be much difference between a 16" and a 20" until that far.
>>
>>33579616
I asked the armorer. They wouldn't issue them because company commander didn't want us to lose them. A lot of shit we had wasn't issued because "commander doesn't want us to lose them". Like we had DAP to go the IBAs. Couldn't get them issued to truck gunners or tower guards.

i'm surprised we got ACOGs instead of being handed carry handle rear sights.
>>
>>33578174
It's heavier, less accurate, and less durable than other AR10 clones on the market that are also older than it. It's also more expensive for both the US military and US civilians, although that (probably) doesn't apply to euro countries.
>>
>>33579322
just make sure to send it back to the factory every 2.,000 rounds
>>
>>33579554

The Mk20 was never in competition for the CSASS. It's a SOCOM program of record while the M110A1 is a big Army project.

Educate yourself.

>>
>>33579491
No its not, stop talking out of your ass, HK417s directly compete with SCAR 17s. The
SCAR SSR(Mk20) is just an accuratized SCAR 17 DMR. HK417s can come with sub 16in barrels just like a SCAR 17 can, while an SSR only comes with a 20in barrel.
>>
>>33579461
>the 417 out-shot the KAC M110.
no it didn't. the 417 won due to the accessory package. nothing more.
>>
>>33580706

Ahaha, look at this shill. KAC didn't even make the final down select. Get rekt, Reed.
>>
>>33578477

There's a CSR senpai. Gj humuliating yourself.
>>
>>33581000

The FN CSR is not a Mk20. His point still stands. Furthermore, HK's CSASS submission is not a 417, but rather a G28 derivative of MR308 lineage. If you want to get prissy about technicalities you're gonna get schooled all day.

You can put a CSR barrel on a Mk20, or cut the barrel down to 13", put the easily available proper gas jet in, and your good to go.
>>
>>33581105
>i don't know what a Mk20 is

You posted a SCAR-H PR, which like the CSR, is also NOT a Mk20.

I honestly don't even know what point you're trying to prove by displaying your ignorance like this.

>>
>>33581177
What's the difference then between mk20, csr and H-PR other than the stock and designation?
>>
>>33581241
He'll list a bunch of savant-tier differences watch. G28 as far as I know has a steel upper vs aluminum of m110a1.
>>
>>33581000
Didn't know about the CSR, but it doesn't matter. The Mk20 is a specialized SCAR 17 and thus, not directly comparable to a standard HK417.
>>
>>33581241

When HK marketed the civilian "417" to the European commercial market they had to make several significant alterations to circumvent Germany's draconian arms export regulations. Some of these changes included a heavy profile non-chrome lined barrel, and a barrel extension/bolt carrier modification that prevents the weapon from accepting full auto carriers. This weapon became the MR308/MR762 that you can buy today.

Somewhat ironically, it was the accuracy enhancements of the MR308 that the Bundeswehr sought when adopting the G28, which HK based on the civilian version.

Later they developed a lightened version dubbed the G28E, and it was a further refined variant of this that was submitted to the CSASS competition to eventually become the M110A1 - no relation to KAC.

Confused yet? I'd recommend spending some time reading up from the real gurus on HKpro if you really wan't to wrap your brain around all of the teutonic german autism that surrounds the HK piston AR family of weapons.

I went with the 2.5x-10x 42mm. My vision isn't great, so I needed the extra magnification. I'd highly recommend that range to anyone like me, 1-6x and 1-8x just wasn't enough.
>>

That is a travesty outside of military use though for any field work where you'll be carrying a rifle in your hands all day.

What, you thought crusty old Eskimos out in Alaska chose 5.5lbs .308 rifles because they thought the bruising on their shoulder was a sick design?

>>33578420
Oh please. It shot sub-moa 5 shot groups when I did my part. Best was 0.75" with Black Hills.

>>33579322
My old roommate had a SCAR 17S. It felt a little lighter before he put on light, suppressor , bipod and a VFG. It's hard to compare since the HK was setup like a simple marksman rifle and the SCAR was an operator gun for operating operationally.
