Just brought it home yesterday
Serial No 7776 (So close...)
So looking at a manufacture year of 1897
Pristine barrel, no corrosion, no damage, original German chambered in 7.63 Mauser.
I feel more complete now, for I have rescued a piece of history from destruction.
Good box cannon!

Thanks Anon.

Man I really want a C96 that isn't beat to shit but they're like $1500
>>33577941
That's how much I paid for mine, and that came with the stock and a complimentary stripper clip.
>>33576400
I've got a Mauser p38 at my store looking for a new home. If you're in the Kentucky area let me know.
>>33579985
I'm in Florida unfortunately

Broomhandles made in 1897 had cone hammers, very different grip frame milling, the original low safety and non-reinforced chambers . Yours looks to be a standard Wartime Commercial model. The Prussian contract guns were in their own serial range, 1 to about 140,000.
Post some more photos as that combination of features with your stated serial number intrigues me.
Here is a photo of a cone hammer C96.

I've taken more pics and I'll post them once my USB charger stops being gay.

Mauser bump.

Great C96 man, badass.
>>33582216
Why do the sights go out to 1000 meters?
Great broomhandle, OP.
>>33582603
Optimism.
>>33582338
>mauser and mauser
not gonna lie, I never get tired of seeing these images you post
>>33576400
Nice gun but not a 1897 production year for sure. They had the New Safety from 1912 owards and the hammer ring is newer too. Mine is 1911ish with the previous safety style.
>>33582603
Because you never know when you'll need to lob 7.63mm like fucking mortars.
>>33582838
C O L T
>>33582187
It's got some mismatched parts as the grip frame serial doesn't match the bolt, hammer and lock frame assembly. Also the bolt stop doesn't look like an original part.
What's there is in the Wartime Commercial configuration which ran from 1912ish to 1918. Mine is a Wartime Commercial as well.
>>33582187
you will want to replace the springs, and it looks like a previous owner may have been firing tok ammo out of yours as the bolt sop area looks a bit battered. the bolt stop also looks a bit odd could you post some pics of that as well.
>>33583147
There was no previous owner.
And what's the bolt stop?
I know this Gun, Han Solo use it.
Take care your gun and fight against dark side.
>>33583204
the bolt stop is the square piece sticking out the side of the barrel extension just under the rear sight.
also yes there were previous owners and one of them definitely swapped out the frame as it is not number matched to the lock frame and other serialized parts that you have shown.

Great, I wasted 1500 bucks on garbage.
Now I have to figure out how to kill myself with this thing.
>>33583329
>I wasted 1500 bucks on garbage.
Not exactly. You can use it as a cudgel to beat the shit out of the bastard that sold it to you.
>>33583329
We all make mistakes, at least yours is a pretty cool gun with a stock that you greatly overpayed.
If you shoot it and have fun with it you might even take a lesson or two of why it is essential to STUDY before you buy.
Gucci mane owns one of these. Based rapper.
>>33583329
not exactly, but do show a picture of the bolt stop as it may cause a safety issue as it looks different than mine and any other c96 I have seen
>>33583037
I like aesthetic antiques.
>>33583329
i really need to get this one I won at an auction fixed up. just needs a few small internal parts replaced.
>>33584596
KB International makes new broomhandle internals. Including bolt stops if >>33583204 wants to replace that filed-down looking thing.
I'd do many sinful things for a Mauser honestly
Does my BYF P38 count?
>>33585636
that's odd. do that many people shoot them to create a market for new parts? I assume everything is hand fitted based on age?
>>33586667
There were about a million made, not counting knock-offs, and even if only a quarter of that are still being fired, there's a market, I suppose.
I imagine the internals might need a little doctoring to fit, but a bolt stop is a bolt stop.
>>33586667
mass production has allowed for parts interchangeability since the american civil war, although there was still a certain number of parts that required more care precision machining was very good at keeping design tolerances by the time the c96 came about.
