If you hunt around long enough you can find some really good bits of information on the bush wars of Southern Africa. There is an emerging history coming out covering what actually happened to a part of the world that does it some justice, a history that doesn't overtly focus on the humanitarian aspects of it.

What sucks is that the Rhodesian Army files are essentially lost. The last I heard they were sitting in some dude's basement in Zimbabwe, flown to England, then stashed in another dude's basement. The tidbits of information in those would be amazing to sift through.

I think on of the more misunderstood aspects of the war was the relationship between South Africa and Rhodesia. Many like to claim SA screwed them over but a significant amount of Rhodesia's helicopters came from South Africa with pilots to match. These pilots would participate in fireforce on the tactical and operational level (op Dingo) and take that experience with them in Angola and Namibia.
