There are good guns that shoot all the major service calibers. There are minor differences among the ballistics profiles of 9mm, .40 and .45, but the most significant differences for most people are going to be a) shootability of a particular gun and b) capacity.

I like the USP40 Compact and the USP45, but I hate shooting the Shield 40 and the Glock 21 doesn't really impress me. On the other hand, I've never met a 9mm pistol I didn't like to shoot.

Why is it such a meme? I don't think a lot of people would tell you it's a good option for carry. It's a surplus collectable gun that's cheap and only worth it if you think it's cool. A PPK, new production is twice the price of a Makarov and is actually a decent option for carry. Collectable PPKs are worth even more than that. Hardly the same league other than the fact that they're similar in design. Also the market for Makarovs is pretty much fixed so you can sell it at little to no loss.

Is there a surplus handgun that isn't shit? I have a Walther P1 and can only manage a 4.5 inch group at 10 yards. The P30 can overlap holes.

With surplus long guns you get value. for example the K31 is a $300 1 +- .5 MOA rifle

But at the current price that I see them for at the local fun stores and on ATFlist as well as classic/SOG, I can grab a trade in .40 Glock, or a new PT111, or a brand new LCP 9mm. I was looking at the P64 but from the two that I fired, the trigger is... Bleh for me.

I also changed my trigger, my DA is now like 18lbs instead of 30lbs and my SA i think is close to 4lbs
