That's not a fuckup.

When the 1911 was originally designed, it was designed with almost all unhardened parts in mind.
Hardening was expensive, and techniques weren't very advanced yet.

As time went on, they began treating the front third of the slide to increase wear resistance.
This is an example of that process, and it was standard in WW2.

Wasn't perfect for about 70yrs. with high vis sights, extended beavertail, extended safety, some slight changes for reliability, remake into 9mm, and maybe a bobtailing it does become pretty hard to beat for a good shooter though. Who really needs 15 rounds anyways?

I want to ask this question here. I have noticed that with my shield an gwalk that when I eject a round manually after removing the magazine the round ejects upward or out. When I do this with my 45 the round seems to want to fall out through the the mag well. What is causing this or is this normal?

I have a gold cup trophy that has malfunctions every single trip to the range since the day I bought it. The rear sight even came loose. $1K gun - if I didn't live in Obamastan I would have ditched it by now.

Not saying 1911s can't be good, but mine isn't. Maybe a smith can fix it, but it will probably cost me an arm and a leg.
