On your ballot, you list Bernier > O'Toole , Scheer, and nobody else.

Why Max Bernier?

Policy highlights:
Lower all income tax, scrap capital gains tax, CRTC, federal carbon tax.
Eliminate all corporate welfare, nationalize airports and Canada Post.
Reduce immigration, end relation with UN for refugee selection.
Double the length of firearms licenses from 5 to 10 years.
Reclassify firearms: Non-restricted = any semi-auto with overall length >26".
Reclassify firearms through law in Parliament instead of the RCMP or cabinet.
Repeal magazine size restrictions.

Ballot comes in mid-May. 10 slots for 14 choices, you rank your #1 choice at the top and work your way down. You don't have to fill all the slots, and anyone you don't add into the ballot is guaranteed not to get your vote no matter what. As the lower voted candidates are eliminated the people who voted for them as their number 1 choice will have their vote given to their second choice.

Thanks. Believe me, I've been trying to redpill people to the Conservatives for a long time. I remember the days leading up to the first time I voted, I was telling people to vote Conservative. Probably only 18 years old. Then that non-confidence thing happened which I voted Conservative again for later and ended up with a Conservative Majority with the Liberal Party taking their biggest hit in ages! Good times! Then around 2012 I heard that the long gun registry was scrapped. GOD that felt good, felt like I helped improve the state of gun laws in Canada in a small way.

>>33578364
Looking forward to it. Bernier at #1, and if I even bother to vote for anyone else I'll make sure they're pro-gun as well. Hopefully none of them will be wanting to be anti-legalization though. I don't like Trudeau j.r., but I do think that legalising pot is a good call. It'll help our economy, and I just don't think that cannabis is something that should be criminalized. Up to 3 plants can be grown in a house? That's pretty freakin' sweet. I'm not a stoner anymore, but I think I'd enjoy growing a few pot plants just for fun.

So is a Ruger 10/22 a good gun for someone who just got their PAL, and has only shot once or twice? I get the idea behind it, its cheap, the ammo is cheap, and that will allow me to work on my marksmanship, etc, etc. But I have a lot of interest in milsurp rifles.

Would you recommend waiting on getting milsurp rifles until I've shot a 10/22 for a while, and am somewhat accurate with it?
>>
>>33579442
I'm not usually one for paint jobs, but that's fucking sexy.

>>33579676
10/22 is a perfectly fine place to start. Another great starter rifle is SKS, and costs close to the same too, maybe a bit cheaper even. Recoil isn't too bad unless maybe you're an 8 year old girl.
>>
>>33579676
Personally I'm not huge on the "start with a 22" thing.
Just don't get a cartridge that's too heavy to start and in all likelihood you'll be perfectly fine.
>>
>>33579756
>>33579740
Alright yea, I was thinking that I would just go for an SKS because I figured I get one eventually anyway. I've shot both a 22 and SKS, the 22 was like a toy.

>>
>>33579818
my first rifle was an SKS and it was easy to learn on, just be safe and clean it well when you first get it.
>>
>>33579676
10/22's are still in production, old milsurp rifles aren't. If you're planning on starting a milsurp collection, sooner is better.
>>
Hey guys, I'm currious about the KelTec Sub 2000 in 9mm. I already own an SKS and an SVT, and I'm wondering if this rifle is worth getting. Will i get bored shooting 9mm after shooting bigger rounds?

Is it reliable?
Is it fun to shoot?
Does anyone own one personally?

All opinions are welcome
>>
>>33579818
>>33580590
That pretty much covers it. Cheap, cheap ammo, simple, recoil is far from punishing, just make sure you clean the fucker and you're good to go. Or, if you want to go straight to big-boy stuff, get an M91/30, but anticipate a bruised shoulder after your first few range trips. Believe me; it hurts so good... but yeah, SKS is probably overall the best starter rifle in Canada provided you're not an 8 year old girl. Just remember to focus on accuracy. Fuck speed. In fact, if you can muster the self-discipline, after you crank out a few mags worth of rapid-fire to get it out of your system, start loading one round at a time. Line up the sights, steady your breathing, slooooowly squeeeeeze the trigger, and just see what you're capable of in terms of accuracy. Don't get in the habit of shooting like a Yank where you just chuck lead in the general vicinity of what you're pointing your rifle at. A good Canadian gun owner will hone their accuracy rather than their ability to control rapid-fire recoil.

9x19 out of a carbine hits pretty damn hard. More than adequate for 'yotes or long-pig. Folding for storage is convenient, it uses 10 round pistol mags of various makes and the sights are much nicer on the newer models. The charging handle is a bit weird, but workable. Reviews are pretty damn positive across the board.

A 10/22 will shoot straight right out of the box, and ammo is as cheap as it gets also an abundance of different types.

The sks you will want to get a front sight tool, It will need to be sighted it. Ammo is expensive to buy in store unless you want to drop 300$ for a surplus crate. (you can order smaller quantities of surplus online or in some stores) It's a great gun and almost essential for any Canadian.

This all being said, I own both guns, infact I bought them at the same time as my first guns. If you spend lots of time at the range and want to shoot for really cheap and have something brand new and clean 10/22. If you are mostly at gravel pits, don't care that you will have to tune it in or might need a higher cal to try to bag a deer in the fall, then sks. But really just go buy both.

even if there are some QC issues, think you could still resell to no loss or at a profit?

since there's only one production run scheduled right now, and it would take years (evidently) to schedule another. what ever batch is brought it will be the only ones for the foreseeable future.

that is my only dilemma to preordering right now Tbh. Plus I can see them bumping up the preorder price at least once before they're brought in.

>Honestly i don't believe Tactical Imports when they say theres only 1 production run.

I believe them because it makes sense that the thing has been delayed this long because there was a minimum order quantity that TI had not fulfilled, and the manufacturer wanted them produced alongside a military order of non-civilian models which is scheduled for this summer.

Doing business with chinks is not easy and I can see similar delays of 1-2 years for another order.

Not uncomfortable at all! I talk openly about it & by doing that it helps show that it's a perfectly normal & healthy hobby/sport. This helps combat the national Mountie/CPA propaganda. :^) We're being demonized & I don't like it.

Quite often even a casual mention will cause other firearms enthusiasts to open up & reveal themselves. I've discovered many co-workers who are gunnutz in their own right but I never knew it until the conversation rolled around to that topic.

It's also an opportunity to encourage more ownership. For example, we had a guy at work who constantly regurgitated the same anti-gun BS we're all familiar with. Nice guy but the anti-gun diatribe was getting to be a little much. The breaking point was when he saw me looking at G3 porn on hkpro & claimed they were weapons of mass destruction. lol. ok.. asked him to explain how they were more dangerous than say a 30.06. He was silent. I joked that he hated them because they were black so he must be a racist. Turns out he's never fired a gun.

Well..! That's all we needed to hear (btw, 9 of 12 of us are gun enthusiasts of varying degrees) so we arranged to have him come to the Nanaimo range for a few hours and we each brought different firearms (rifles, pistls, shotguns). I like to bring a few of my covetted M856 tracer rounds for the newbies because their eyes light up almost as bright (perhaps brighter!) when they see that red glow whipping downrange. hehheh!

When anti's see well behaved youth, families, and the friendly atmosphere, they are usually initially surprised & abandon their extremist viewpoint.

To end this long post (sorry..) the coworker got his PAL the following month. 2 months later he had more guns than any of us and was getting his hunting licence and looking into gunsmithing. We created a monster! hahaha!

That is just ONE of several examples i've experienced. I believe in being a good embassador to the FA community.
>>
>>33583443

I do this too, and a coworker and her boyfriend recently went out and got their RPALs. I'm a pretty normal well adjusted guy so people don't freak out when I casually talk about going shooting.

The T97 isn't quite as bad as people say, but they're definitely no Tavor. I owned one, and it was fairly well put together and made. I only got rid of it because I'm a left-handed retard and thought I could make it work.

I really liked the operating mechanism itself, very simple and robust. The STANAG conversion is a little janky, but works if you're willing to tweak it or run the right mags.

They're striker-fired (with a very strange striker arrangement) with a 3 lug AK-ish bolt with a long stroke piston. Very simple, not a hell of a lot to go wrong.

Almost all the issues that T97's have are to do with the conversion to STANAG mags (instead of the QBZ's rock-and-lock). The magwells are tight, and the feed ramp/angle is....weird. The reason they're spotty with feeding is the height at which the feed lips sit. If you examine the mags they come with, they feed slightly higher than 'normal' AR ones.

The wide variance is what kicks you in the ass. Some rifles are fine, some are not.

So, if you fuck around with a file and improve the feed ramp, they work great. But It's pretty inexcusable EMEI hasn't fixed this. The magwell dimensions should have been nailed down years ago.

A hundred or so rounds of 7.62x54r and a hundred or so rounds of .303, plus a sprinkling of .30-06, maybe a bit of 8mm Mauser, and 7.62x39 for dessert, POSSIBLY when you haven't even been shooting rifles for a year yet... yeah, it's going to fucking bruise you, even a big, burly, 6' dude like me.

I love those things for some reason, seem so space/cost efficient.
>>
>>33589099
That's very clearly a short-stroke piston. See the green part in front of the BCG? They just extended the BCG that far forward because the charging handle is integrated into it.
>>
>>33589099
Looks like a strange mix between short-stroke and long-stroke. Seems to me that they should have made the short-stroke piston longer and separate the charging handle bit from the bolt bit so that the charging handle can be non-reciprocating, but then again it wouldn't act as a forward assist in that instance. Still, I handled a QBZ-97 (5.56 chambering) once, and even though I'm thoroughly a traditionalist, I was surprisingly pleased by how it felt. I've also heard horror stories about bullpup triggers but found that one to be not bad!

>>33589147
That may be the case, but like I said, I found it to be not bad. To each their own I suppose.
>>
>>33589183

>>

That nub's a buffer, the usual recoil spring is present.

>>33589180

Agh, you're right. Disregard my retardation.
>>33589197

>Prone to failure

It's not a good design, but I've never heard of a single incident of trigger failure either. I'd give it a pass if you could actually get spare sear/trigger mechanisms to swap in, but you're shit out of luck when it comes to parts like that.

The trigger pull itself isn't horrific, but it's not good either. Medium weight with a ridiculously long take-up and overtravel. Better than a Tavor's stock trigger....but that's not saying anything.

>>33589183

I was impressed by how smooth the charging handle operated, I figured it'd be chinesium crap, but was smooth as butter. You had to yank that fucker back and let it go with authority for it chamber anything properly though.
>>
>>33589727
So, why does it need a buffer? Is there just not enough room for a full size recoil spring?
>>
>>33589727
All you'd have to do is break the little nub that holds the trigger linkage and she's fucked. If the chinks go to war with this shit they're 10/10 going to lose
>>
>>33589751

I think it's a vestigial thing left over from the Full-auto QBZ design. I've seen references to the buffer being there to make automatic fire more controllable.

The recoil spring seemed comparable to anything else in 5.56. Could maybe be a reliability thing; lighter spring = deliberately higher bolt velocity?

I guess it probably can't hurt to have it there but the actual utility is limited.
>>
>>33579818
If you can find a SVT-40 the recoil is next to nothing even though you are firing a full sized 30 cal. Still cheap to shoot, just clean it right away.

Shit like... them randomly welding a bracket 3 inches further back than what was specified on the drawing, making it impossible to assemble the end product. Or their powder coating being both super thick (like 25 thou) at one spot and there being bare metal on another spot of the same component... Or we'd receive 1000 units of something with a powder coating so off that a blind guy could tell you it isn't a colour-match.

One time, we gave them an extra sum of money and an extra two months of lead time for them to get imperial size metal rods for a specific component. Of course, instead of doing that, they just used the next metric size up, so the rods were too big to fit into the holes they were meant to go into.

Oh, and their internet connection was so piss-poor that sending them the models took so long that their connection would die before they could finish the download, so I frequently had to drop everything I was doing to Pack&Go hundreds of gigs of drawings at a time and burn them onto disks.

That said, most of the problems we had came from upper-management. The owner of the company, who was so computer illiterate that they didn't even start using CAD at all until the 2000's, was pissed that I didn't have the entire thing done in the 5 minutes he thought it would take to do that when just doing the Pack&Go would take well over an hour, let alone burning all the disks...

Despite all the problems we had with China's production, the owner figured it was a brilliant idea for us to start having China do the Engineering, too. After months of arguing about it, his idea of a good compromise was to have us make the 3D model and the top-level assembly drawings, but not actually make any of the sub-assembly or part drawings and just "have China figure it out". That didn't last long, lmao.

I learned a lot working there and I worked with some great people, but I do not miss the upper-management or dealing with Chinese manufacturers.

It's not like we were working on aerospace components or shit like that. Just about 100% of our projects were custom jobs for various customers. While it usually ended in a physical product, what we provided was more of a service than goods. Nothing worth patenting or anything. Hell, the project I worked on most of the time we didn't even maintain ownership of the drawings, the customer did. We had to use their drawing templates and everything.

Some projects that we had produced in China worked out fine, but when you consider shipping and everything, the risk/reward ratio of them fucking up vs the lower production costs only made sense for really large scale shit. All our prototypes were made domestically, all the low quantity production, all the rush jobs... I swear, there were a bunch of projects that were so tight that the parts were still too hot from powder coating to touch without gloves when they were assembled and loaded into the trucks.

When I first started working there, the Engineering department was a total fucking mess. The manager who hired me had only been working there for <2 months and they had <15 pages of procedures/standards written down. By the time I left, we had nearly 100 pages worth of procedures/standards/charts/reference material. Anyone they hire now has a lot more reading to do, but a lot fewer questions to ask. Hell, they didn't even do QA or QC in the Engineering department until right around when I joined. No performance metrics, no paper trails, nothing. It didn't take long to find out who the dead weight in the department was once those things were implemented. We went from the company's bottle-neck to the highest performing department in the company and started assuming tasks and responsibilities from other departments because we could do it faster and better, but we still got shat on by the owners of the company. It was actually kind of insulting, desu.
>>
>>33591691
>we still got shat on by the owners of the company
Maybe that's why the company turned to shit in the first place.

How was HR? Full of womyn?

How did you guys handle hurdles like out of spec or wrong sized products?

Did you have board members/stock holders who the owners had to answer to?
>>
>>33591783
Yeah, HR was entirely women. They were pretty awful. Had to threaten to walk-out one time because they were being fucky with OT pay.

It's a family owned company. As for dealing with poorly made parts from China, unless we redesigned domestically made parts to compensate for their fuckups, it wasn't my problem. I know they lost a couple contracts because of it, though.
>>
>>33592484
Damn, thanks for the insight. I hope they realized your value and gave you a pay raise at least.
>>
>owned guns for a year

There's basically no point in owning guns in the city.

what? are you sure? even the ranges are ckck, jesus christ, simplyly go to rural area and shoot in the nothing.
>>
>>33592549
Haha, they folded immediately. I was the only one keeping a multi-million dollar contract afloat and they knew it. The head of HR was just a giant bitch.

Let me put it this way: One time I went to grab some food at a nearby grocery store and ate as I walked back. I still had a few bites left when I arrived, so I stood in the stairs for a few moments to finish eating before heading up and returning to my desk. Just as I'm about to take the last bite, she walks down the stairs. Later that day, my manager comes over and says "So, I know it's stupid but the lady from HR was scared when she saw you in the stairs and she asked me to tell you that you're not allowed to take the stairs anymore". I burst out laughing in his face, told her that if she had a problem with me taking the stairs she can tell me to my face and then I exclusively took the stairs every day for the next several months.

I work in HR for a large company and I would recommend caution.
Harassment claims without witnesses or hard evidence don't go anywhere and unfortunately mark you out.
The fact that guns carry a taboo with a lot of people make it that much worse for you in reporting the issue.
Unless you have witnesses willing to get involved and your company isn't liberal/anitigun, then I would recommend not going to HR.
>>
>>33597203
>>33597393

I actually am not concerned. Its a small company. Going to the HR person would do fuck all. They still smoke in the shop - shows how much they actually care.

Plus ive convinced 3 other employees to get their PALs.

It just gets tiresome, the same lame jokes.
>>
>>33597498

>>

Too late for that after the smartass comments i made about prepping for the race war

kek. Its all good bud, appreciate the suggestions.
>>
>>33597520
Ah.

I've had people make stupid comments (usually whenever there's a highly publicized shooting). I use it as a "teachable moment". Most people are pretty reasonable. The ones that aren't are leveraged as an example of the insanity of anti-gun arguments.

One technique I like using is arguing FOR gun-control as if I were a dictator. Hearing their own arguments when spoken in honesty breaks cognitive dissonance very effectively.
>>
>>33597542

Speaking of Gun Control - Is the NFA Normiebook posts about rimfire mag limits and SKS banning bullshit or is there any proofs?
>>
>>33597553
I don't use normiebook, so I have no idea what you're talking about. I'm assuming you're talking about impending gun control legislation rumours.

FWIW, the LPC has been campaigning on banning all handguns and all semi-auto's since at least Dion, but have been a bit more hush hush about it lately.

Back in the 90's, normies hadn't yet adopted the internet and our gun orgs were even more of a mess than they are today. There was a "Fed up" rally, but media just ignored it (Funny story: They actually had snipers posted on the rooftops). We are, as a community, much more organized now and we're not reliant on media like the CBC when we have CGN, youtube, twitter, facebook, etc. Social media is making it much harder for them to exert control. That's why they are censoring it more and more.

Shouldn't we be raising a stink over this and writing letters and complaining to our politicians?

Being passive and doing nothing but bitching to one another just makes the whole Canadian gun culture more depressing and closer to bongtier levels. Though I'm no sure if what I'm suggesting has any merit, I've never written to local politicians.

That reminds me, isn't the BC provincial elections on right about now? If this is happening at a sensitive time, maybe we can make a impact?

The NFA does have a conflict of interest in O'Toole.

That in mind, O'Toole does want to go even further than Bernier does on rolling back gun laws.

Last I saw, his policy proposals on other issues are a lot more detailed as well.

>>
>>33608928

They just had a sale on surplus ammo that was actually pretty decent. Otherwise cabelas' 'sale' prices are about par with what online retailers charge everyday.
>>
Hi guys, I bought 1500 rounds of surplus and they are just sitting at room temperature, should they be put in some sort of airtight container with desiccant packets?

Never heard of anyone air locking ammo especially surplus, but yes add desiccant packs to keep moisture out. Honestly I think where ever you're gonna store it, is much better than the warehouse it was sitting in originally.
>>
>>33608919
They're alright. Definitely not high end stuff, but decent for the price, especially if you don't want chinkshit.

Yeah, but what do you expect from the boomer generation. Grandaddy probably had the rifle in mint condition for decades but it was a little bit heavy for hunting, and boomer boy can't get a duty built hunting rifle, that would be expensive. Well here's a hacksaw, time to get to work.

I personally find shooting guns at all to be very fun, but that's me. If you like the idea of it, and you like outdoors stuff, you'll probably like hunting, though I recommend getting your PAL no matter what because shooting is fun. Can't answer your question about free hunting though.
>>
>>33611140
