Tell me about your cases, /k/. I have a really cheapo case for my AR and I'm starting to hate it. I'm interested in getting a new one, preferably a soft case. I'm also thinking a double for when I bring out my AK or shotgun, and possibly something that has a pistol pocket as well.
>>
>>33571241
Are you going to put it on a helmet and have you had any use with either pvs7 or 14?
>>
>>33571275
I have a nice mich 2002 I'm going to mount it to, regardless of if I pick the pvs7 or 14.

I figure if I can only afford one NV device, I'd rather see through both eyes with the 7 than be disoriented through the 14. I've never used a NV device before.

So I am thinking about grabbing this as a general vest and plate carrier.

http://www.ar500armor.com/warrior-dcs-plate-carrier.html

Question about the plates themselves. Do most people get both front and rear or just the front? The sides worth investing? Do I get steel, ceramic, or poly?
>>
>>33572129
Used to run one. With so much room it's often convenient to run much on the carrier, which I did. Pistol mags on upper left, double stacking rifle mags on front left and singles on left for 6. Keep right front flat. Right side is either GP or IFAK. Dump an admin pouch on top and mount radio, dump and hydration on back. Also I feel like this is one of those platforms best for mounting the sling through the carrier. I found that to be the most efficient use of the padding and size.
>>
>>33572290
Mayflower APC

Ceramic, no side plates unless you're door kicker SOF dude, shop around for solid NIJ IV ceramics and not AR500. Quality Control issues, and straight up lying about NIJ testing.
>>
>>33572290
Front and rear at least. Sides if you really want to, weight makes it a burden. Material is all about cost for shaving a couple pounds. With steel make sure the coating is good to catch spalling. Ceramic can also crack if dropped so some say steel lasts longer for the average user.

>>

800???
You could have bought a gen 3 image intensifier for that, then saved again and bought the body and shit.
>>
>>33572526
Mayflower's a great company that makes good shit, I'm not so sure about the quality of the AR500 carrier.

One, it has a kangaroo pocket. If you're not gonna get a slick (don't, no point for most sue) have a kangaroo pocket, great mag solution.
Mayfolwer's cummberbund is also great with their adjustment. For a 6094-esque plate carrier the cummerbund isn't as good as the 6094's but it's comparable which makes it an automatic 8/10 as far as non skeletonized/elastic/lowpro strap cummerbunds go. Better hook and loop panel as well as ability to mount a chest rig if you're into that.

Or I could had just bough a functioning device for 800? I bought this a few years ago and didn't know a whole lot about NVG's besides my dads PVS-14 gen 3 and I saved up enough for something usable, 800 for a Gen 2+ was great deal.
>>
>>33572736
>800 for a gen 2+ was great deal

That's the second time you've said that. You can keep telling yourself that, but it's still not in gen 3 league.

>>
>>33572884
And where did I say it was? I said gen 2+ was fine, it was just a meme to stupidhoosier anyway, for me its not worth all the extra I would have to pay to get gen 3 when I already have something thats close enough and works fine for me, Id rather save up some more money to get an IR laser for my rifle or other shit.

Have you bought any ir lights yet? Because your going to have to if you want to see on a cloudy night, and there goes IR discipline/security. Not to mention the cost of ir lights and lasers will bring you to the cost of a used or built gen 3.

Well, the 9th shooting this year in my town was last night, less than 20 minutes from my house. Looks like I need to buy plates. They advertise it as being ready for use with just the plate bag and 2/3 slot skeletal cummerbund but honestly I'm pretty sure you need the padded yoke as well. Really, though, just save up until you have enough money for everything and Crye will go through the trouble of assembling it for you. Seriously, fuck having to attach the plate bags to the harness.

Google "NIJ approved body armor" and click on the nij.gov link. I'd post a link to the site but my post keep gets marked as spam. If you're on a budget I recommend RMA Armament 1145's, they're only $100 each. As for helmets I'd go to stormseeker surplus they have complete ACH's for $125.

It's because most people new to firearms don't know any better and it's always the holster the sales associate at the sporting goods store talks them into buying for that overpriced 1911 they just bought.

Just for the record if you ever hear anyone talk up the SERPA as a good hoslter be sure to disregard any other opinion they have related to anything. I don't know how anyone can swear up and down on how the SERPA is a safe holster despite the mountains of evidence that show its causes NDs.

This is a retarded approach to safety. Why do gun owners not understand that even trained people make mistakes? In the aviation world it's obvious that even experienced and highly trained pilots can fuck up and kill themselves if the circumstances are wrong. But for whatever reason it's totally unacceptable to call out certain holsters as unsafe even when they've been banned from large federal LE training centers and various govt contract training facilities and there is literally video evidence of NDs or close calls by their users.

Are you sure that's an ACH? The screws are laid out exactly the same as on a CVC, and the back doesn't look like it has a concave for the neck. Actual ACH highcuts are also more angular rather than a huge curve (compare with the pic).

It looks like someone took a CVC shell, attached some velcro pads, and screwed on a chinstrap. Hate to say it but if you paid more than $50 for it you've been duped. They're expensive on Ebay, but anyone in armored battalions (and I guess Strykers too) has more shells than they do headsets/liners. I wouldn't trust that as anything more than a bump helmet that can stop .22

One, that might be for private industry goods, but I doubt the military thought to spend that much on CVC's when we aren't supposed to dismount wearing those anyway.

Two, I don't know the effects UV radiation would have on bare kevlar over time, especially if the one the guy had was a surplus one.

Is there really a good point to getting a variable scope with a 1x setting? It doesn't have infinite eye relief, and you can't switch to the 1x setting instantly without moving your hands onto it.

Seems like a micro-red dot mounted alongside than main optic is still a better CCO idea. I've even noticed this in pictures of operators with modern Elcans and other variable optics.

To that end, doesn't it makes more sense to get a scope that is something like 3x-6x instead of 1x-4x. If you're mounting a micro red dot anyway, you may as well get a higher magnification main optic.

Okay, don't normally post here, but I have a question.

Do we have a list of holster makers in the USSR?
Sadly my camera's broken (long story) or I'd take a pic.

I have a 1978 Makarov holster (original Russian) and I'm trying to figure out the factory it was made at.

As payment, enjoy a sexy Mosin and it's entirely all to happy owner.

>>
What ear pro should I get for under $150?
>>
>>33593032
Because next size up from the 1x-? Is 3-9x, and then you are looking at at least a 40mm objective lenses and a pretty large scope overall. So you have the size and weight add on of that scope on 14.5" barrel ar, to get 9x, when you can cut a lot of that weight and size and get at least a 6x. It really just comes down to what you are wanting to do with the rifle. You can build a really solid do-it-all rifle, but you're also going to have a heavy, bulky fucker. Also, this is gq, not arg.

Does anyone know of an inner belt, that has loop on the outside and uses a cobra buckle?

I liked mine until I tried something better. My Sordins (supreme pro x with gel cups) fit so much better on my ears, and the sound quality is higher. No matter how much I adjust my impact pros, they always break seal if I move my head the wrong way. I didn't want to spend the extra money at first but I decided to splurge a little since you only get one shot at protecting your hearing.
>>
>>33593032
some of the 1-4x or 1-6x optics have a better eyebox at 1x than many higher magnification scopes. also applying the marksmanship fundamentals gets harder shooting with the gun at a cant. so it's fine to have that offset MRDS for room to room work but if you have to shoot a guy at 100 yards it's awkward.

Yea, woefully unprepared.
>keeping mags in backpack, so that when you need them in a pinch, you have to take your pack off and dig them out real slow
>while food and water is super important, shelter is right along with them. You don't need a massive tent, but a tarp, woobie, or poncho is way better than nothing.
>clothes? Spare socks and undies are a must. grab jackets, gloves, etc incase of bad weather
>means of fire? Or backpacking stove
>messkit (to eat your food), butt wipes (clean yourself, and more importantly your butt), IFAK (duh), Multitool (handy), flashlight (so you can see at night) all important.
>ear and eye pro. Especially ear pro. If you have a gun be prepared to shoot it.

I know that Vietnam, Bosnia, Pakistan, and Soviet Union definitely made tan or greenish-tan chicoms. Some of Saddam's troops had tan chicoms with velcro, too. Sandinistas in Nicaragua definitely made at least a few Strichtarn chicoms that I am aware of. Bangladesh has made a lot of Black chicoms. I have even seen a chicom type chest rig made in Nepal from navy blue fabric for Bren magazines. Chicoms are out there in a lot of colors.
>>
>>33592982
How do you know?
>>
>>33594259
I remember this one
>>
>>33593028

You need to pack for a destination, or goal in mind. Prepare food and water for the amount of trouble that it will get you there. Anymore than 3 days and you need to either find closer places, or rely on some form of transport as well. Be prepared to have some way of purifying water, too. As for clothes be sure to pack extra socks and a towel.

Shelter wise I'm not personally concerned but as >>33593032 said get some form of small shelter for warmth.

If you want to carry your weapon, I'd consider keeping either a quick attach belt rig for your Skorpion or better yet, a chest rig with mags already in it in your bag. If you need to get your gun out, grab your chest rig, get it on quick, and grab your skorpion with little fuss.

Eagle, Exo Mountain, Hill People Gear, Kifaru, LBT, Arc'teryx, Osprey, Kelty, and Mystery Ranch at minimum make pretty good packs.

There's other brands like Direct Action, Maxpedition, Grey Ghost, Emdom, First Spear, etc., the list goes on.

It really depends on what someone is looking for specifically. Might be a better question suited for /out/.

pig is pretty much g2g but I think they missed the mark on that rig, both the molle and with sewn in pouches

It's way too tall, shits unstable as fuck. If you mount pouches on the top three rows, it'll pull away from you. If you put them on the bottom three, they're going to slap your sternum when you run because you can't adjust the shoulder straps tight enough without cutting into your neck.

I eventually replaced mine with the pig brig rig once I learned how god esstac pouches are, and is a LOT more stable on my chest and I like being able to connect it to my pig water pouch.

I use that all molle rig now for muh non autistic hiking trips. Got a shitty admin pouch to hold my phone/wallet/keys and a small map of the trail, a first aid kit for big owies and a little pouch filled with bandaids and tampons. Works well because I don't like carrying a huge backpack and I can't stand the feeling of shit bouncing around in my pants

tl;dr that particular rig is shit for mags

pig brig rig is better, blue force gear rigs are GOAT

even with his upper body lean it looks pretty clear that his weight is on his heels. probably fine with a intermediate caliber rifle especially since he's probably a heavy bastard but it's something he can get away with, not something that's actually good to do.
