Unless you just DEMAND a semi, I'd recommend a single-action revolver with a .22 WMR cylinder you can change out.

You would just not BELIEVE how fun and handy these things are. I sold this one, like an utter retard. It's one of those "i want back" guns.
>>
>>33568876
this this this

plus you can fuck with all kinds of loads (check the barrel on some of the super light rounds, we squibbed 3 before we realized.....)

Can't suppress a revolver desu.
>>
Unless you need a scaled model for training with your center fire pistol skip the SR-22/p22, Mosquito, etc they aren't as fun as Mark pistols or a revolver.

Looking at the Mark IV first decide what grip angle you want, this will cut your choices in half.
>>
>>33568876
Which brand? I'm not OP but was looking at a cheap Heritage.
>>
>>33569124
Ruger's Single Six Convertible will work for that.
>>
>>33569124
Buddy of mine got a Rough Rider, and he raves about it. The gun in my pic was a Rohm RG 66, which is comparable in quality.

Ruger makes probably the best ones, but they're a bit more expensive.

Quieter than 50% of my farts. Those are fun to shoot, feels like a crazy fast & quiet CO2 gun. Would plink all day. Just watch out for ricochet around rocks, the zip from that is louder than the actual shot. Great for confusing animals.

Gentlemen. This too I have had a hard debate with. This is what is at my local shop on the cheap.
>>
>>33569806
Single six all day.
>>
>>33569221
Define expensive, I am unfamiliar to the .22 revolver.
>>
>>33569871
A new single six will be like $500-$600, a rough rider will be less than $200.

You'll see the difference in quality immediately, but the rough rider is still fun and realiable and handy, even if it's a little less accurate and a little less durable and a little less pretty.
>>
>>33570106
What would used prices look like for a Ruger at most gun stores? Something in the 250-350 range would be damn nice for something to shove in my backpack.
>>
>>33568788
I own 5 .22 pistols, favorites are Colt Frontier Scout and Smith and Wesson model 41.
>>
>>33568788
>>33568876
This. I have a S&W 617 and it's great.
Rimfire ammo is shit, so being able to clear malfunctions by simply pressing the trigger again to advance to the next round is a huge benefit over .22 autos.
>>
>>33569806
Definitely the single six, Ruger makes some of the best revolvers. My dad has one and it's extremely accurate
>>
I have a mkIV 22/45 lite
I would definitly recommend it

Rough rider breddy gud
Buckmark breddy gud
M&P22 a shit...
Pretty much all full size clone 22s are garbage. The mk4 looks pretty great but you have to replace all the bits to get a trigger equal to the factory buckmark one.

A coworker has a big ass Smith 22 revolver which is the shit but costs like $800 which I think is a little silly for a 22...
>>
>>33568788
Throwing my vote in for avoiding the "modern carry lookalike" 22's, they're all junk with durability issues and subpar accuracy.

At the low end of the semi's you have shit like Beretta's U22 Neos (spessgun), S&W's A22 (spessgun/Nintendo lightgun), or a used Ruger 22/45 Lite (threaded short barrel, weighs fucking nothing). Possible to find an old High Standard in poor to mediocre shape for under $300, the gun itself is fucking fantastic but the mags wear out fast/are hard to find/are expensive.

At the mid level you have Ruger's Mk3/Mk4 (highly recommend the Mk4 unless there's a significant price gap, fuuuuuck the Mk1/2/3 takedown with a rake), a Browning Buckmark, or a used Mk2. The Mk2 will have the best trigger of the lot but they tended to be (more) picky with ammo, and the Buckmark has a "trigger job" that involves turning a spring 180*. All are available with a wide array of barrel lengths and profiles, and all have threaded barrel options if you intend to suppress.

At the high end you have shit like Beretta's 87 Target (great, accurate gun with meh trigger and too-short grip for most man hands), S&W 41 (low-end competition handgun that commands a premium and has been either discontinued or unavailable for decades), And Walther/Hammerli's joint venture the Xesse.

And at the full-blown competition level you have several models of Hammerli and Pardini, and Walther's GSP, but these *start* at $1200.

41s are currently available, they're a Performance Center gun. Easier to get hold of an older one.

Not impressed with Xesse. My father bought a Trailside a long time back and more recently an Xesse, and I like my 41 better. Bought my 41 from Clark Custom Guns, custom barrel and all. Fucking thing caught every fifth round before it ejected. Took the barrel off, put on a brand new factory S&W 7" barrel, never malfunctioned once after that. Purrs like a kitten so long as you feed it what it likes, keep it absolutely spotless, and oil it religiously. It's a high maintenance little minx.

Ruger Marks are absolutely TITS and everybody should have one for each hand. I have like five of them (Mark 2s and 3s - go with the 2s), but no Mark 4 yet. Mark 4 Hunter is on my short list for next gun. Where the 41 is a high-maintenance "9", the Marks are the reliable "5" who always puts out and is down for your nastiest fantasy. Not the hottest thing on the field but you're guaranteed to walk away satisfied.

I have a mk1, a mk2, a mk3, and 2 22/45's including the 22/45 Hunter. The only one that doesn't cause constant problems is the mk1.
>extremely extremely picky about ammo, absolutely will not cycle "standard velocity" (1050-1080fps) ammo and absolutely will not chamber ANY of the "hyper velocity" (1350fps+) ammo, will not chamber several brands of plated bullets, will not feed anything not roundnose reliably
>they all break an extractor about once every 800 rounds, including VQ's Exact Edge extractors (currently at about round 650 on a Power Custom forged extractor and it's showing signs it's about to go)
>even in pristine shape with ammo they like I'll get a stovepipe about once every other mag
>mag feed lips are so soft you can literally pinch them shut between your index and middle fingers, mags should be considered disposable despite their $30 pricetag (my original mk1 mags seem to be actually tempered and don't exhibit this, and yes they fit the mk2 and mk3 and would probably fit the 22/45's with a baseplate swap). The mags the 22/45 Hunter came with are literally aluminum.
>scope bases on the 22/45 Hunter and Mk3 *will not* stay fucking screwed in even with red loctite, 99% sure the receiver holes were drilled wrong
>22/45 Hunter's sight and dovetail milled crooked by a couple degrees

The mk3, 22/45 (which is a mk3 with a different grip angle), and mk4 all have a mag disconnect safety and a lawyer-proof (IE, long, heavy, gritty) trigger. Even with a safety-delete bushing and a fistful of Volquartsen aftermarket parts they all have noticeably worse triggers than my mk2, which has a noticeably worse trigger than my mk1. I also suspect the LCI contributes to failures to feed.

While yes they fixed the fucktarded takedown of the Mk-series with the Mk4, I think that all around a Buckmark is the better gun. More reliable, easier to maintain, less picky on ammo, and generally ever so slightly more accurate even off a bench.

I have the Phoenix arms 22. Barrel is easy to switch out and it looks nice. 10 round capacity and very inexpensive.

I haven't had any jams with bulk Remington thunderbolt but federal bulk was worse

22/45 mk3 here, remove the metal part of the lci and never get an fte again. Since I've done that, I've gone through 2 boxes of 550 rounds of Remington with no problem
>>
>>33572206
>>33572216
I'm sure there's a .22 with a sealing cylinder
>>
>>33572226
Did that, still have problems with all 3 pistols.

Also doesn't explain why the mk2 (which doesn't have an LCI or mag disconnect) suffers most of the same problems with basically the same frequency.

>>33572258
Not one that ever made it to serial production/civilian sales, no.

i got a ruger miii two weeks before the mark iv came out.

i enjoy mine tremendously but i would recommend the mk iv as its easier to dissacemble.
