Rangers are basically natives living where they live, and doing what they've always done. Just paid to be search and rescue or soldiers when it's needed. They do get to remove bear often.
Basically they're the only people willing and suited to live way up in bumfuck nowhere.

I've always found finland a bit of an oddity. Mixture of western, russian, even german influences (during WII at least), interesting mix of gear. Awesome homegrown arms companies. Conscription. Pretty badass overall. I actually visited the country and went to a lot of Winter War sites, and the national war museum. A lot of my finnish friends done the conscription. One friend was AAA operator. Interesting armed forces. Not weirdest, but quirky to an extent.
