Best do-all, zero-maintenance, throw-behind-the-seat-and-forget, glad-its-there-when-you-need-it, worry-free gun.

Requirements:
1. Must be a longarm.
2. Must be able to kill things up to 200lbs between 0 and 150 yards.
3. Must have no fucks to give if it's lost/stolen/forgotten.
4. Must require minimal to no maintenance.

Right now, I think it's the SKS. I picked one up for a song last year, a Chinese model with tech sights, no bayonet, no cleaning kit or rod, but also no rust, a great bore and crown and just beat up enough that I don't really care if it gets beat up more.

I figure that, well-oiled and put in a gun sock with a few silica gel packs, and three or four stripper clips, and it will meet all criteria and I don't have to think about it for a year or so.

What's your thoughts /k/?

This is my truck gun. Fits all the criteria, except
>give no fucks if it's lost/stolen/forgotten
This is just fucking stupid. Lock it in your truck, when you're don't for the night, take it out.
>contributing to liberal outcry for ban mug guns
>who the fuck forgets about a gun they have in their truck?
Seriously bough, just throw whatever is compact in your truck. Boom, truck gun.
>>
>>33564240
I think the SKS is more accurate, and the mag sticking out the bottom of an AK makes it more difficult to fire from a rest, like... a truck bed or window. Also, folders are more difficult to get a good cheek weld for accurate shooting.

Yeah no. Not going to drag a rifle in and out of the house with me every morning and evening.
I see your point though. Maybe I should have clarified "no fucks": Financial fucks was what I was really getting at. I'm not going to leave a $1,000+ firearm in my truck at night. But one that's $250? Yeah, I can replace that.

OF COURSE you're going to have fucks if a firearm is stolen-- someone broke into your truck!! So, call the cops, file the report, and with any luck it will end with a trip to a pawn shop to retrieve the stolen item, and a poor oppressed minority individual incarcerated when he dindu nuffin rong and was jus gettin hid lief on trak.

But if you lose the thing, loan it out, forget it when you sell the truck, leave it in the woods, or any of the other human-factor errors that lead to a firearm being... not with you anymore... fuck it. It's an SKS, who cares?

>>33564312
I have done this many times. It's easy.
AKs and ARs are just more difficult because of the mag sticking out the bottom. You have to scooch back to that perfect little area in front of the bottom of the mag but behind the gas block.

The SKS just has more resting real estate.

I'm optimistic, animation looks great and the score does as well. So long as bonedaddy is there. <3
>>
>>33564299
In my experience, it is. I'm sure there are some AKs that are more accurate that some SKSs, but that's true of all rifle comparisons. Hell, there's SOME Mosin Nagants that are more accurate than SOME modern bolt-action hunting rifles.

In general, however, that's just not the case.
>>
>>33564265
i would MUCH rather bring the rifle inside and back out in the morning than risk leaving it in my truck and having it stolen. then dealing with cops about how my dumb ass is too lazy to bring it in the house after im done. Thats just me, though. I am even /k/anadian where SKS's are 250 at best, and im still not going to risk it

Well, there's mechanical accuracy and percieved accuracy. The SKS has some 4in longer sight radius. From what I've seen, SKS and AK are pretty same-ey as far as the accuracy goes, proper AKM might have a slight edge on accuracy while SKS has some 70fps advantage. The difference is pretty negligable. That said, when you pit it against AK-74, it's going to lose, methinks. Sadly never fired an SKS, but those 74's seem noticably more accurate than AKM's.

>Well, there's mechanical accuracy and percieved accuracy. The SKS has some 4in longer sight radius.
You might have a point there. It's not just the sight radius, it's the cheek weld and the ability to fire it from a good rest in many different positions.

So, yeah, you put them both in a machine vice with match ammo and compare them... the accuracy difference may not be all that much after all.

But hang one out the window of a pickup and try to hit a hog at 150 yards? Or even put one on a range bench and sight in an optic? SKS wins everytime. Hell, I even find them more accurate shooting from a standing position.

And don't get me started on fucking folders.... brrr. This was the most accurate AK I've ever owned but I sold that fucker off because underfolders are a misery.

>>

>>
>>33564886
Because a shotgun with slugs wouldn't be a good choice either. What makes you think it would? A truck gun should be small enough to fire from the driver's seat, but substantial enough to be used if you dismount.

That's why all these people say underfolding AKs. I'd agree, and SBR it.

SKS is a bit long for me, might get difficult maneuvering it in the cabin.

I'd give up the "don't care about being stolen" bit for maneuverability, even if it means paying a little extra to keep it safe.

I swap between two czech guns for the months where I practically live in a tractor, but the vz58 is my favorite vehicle gun. And the ejection cycles so softly with golden tiger that no worries about chipping windows etc. Then the folder stock actually folds out extremely quickly while I raise it up to my shoulder. Couldn't be more perfect.
Frankly, I'm tempted to buy a 2nd one to just trash and throw around and not give a damn about the paint on. I don't want to wreck my sexy blue/grey colored paint since they don't really make that any more.
But 10rd mags are a requirement for my bag since you can't keep a 30rd mag inside the bag with it.
>>
>>33566038
Your AK is more accurate than 6MOA then, or you just live near stupid coyotes.

>>33566040
I am the OP. 150 yards is what I said in the original post, and that's a pretty typical range for yotes, durr, or bacon. 3MOA SKS is pretty good at that.

Vz. 58's are drying up, kinda fast, here in CZland. You better get one more while they last. How much do they go around for in burgerland(I presume?) The 10rounders are nice and you can re-feed them in one go with SKS stripperclips, which is also quite nice. Had any success with 20rounders in that bag? I know they exist, just dunno how common they are.

How are you liking your Vz.61? I'm getting one soon and my GF chimed in that she loves the little thing and when I told her that it's not THAT hard to get the license and the gat, she'll be going for one too. I can already see myself borrowing hers and doing stoopid shit akimbo-style, hehe. Anything I should be on the lookout for? Only got couple of mags through Skorpion, so I don't know it that well.

By the way, ever heard of the shortened 58's? They are sexy as fuck and might work even better for a truckgun.

Dayum. Last I saw they were going for about 450 bucks equivalent. Used to be 250 few years back when SKS's were 100, oh woe, I was too young to get a license back then. That being said, there's going to be a new semi-auto vz.61 batch made in May and I plan on jumping on it hard. How much does the Skorpion cost round there?
>sbr it alongside my vz61
Oh damn. Didn't notice you get the cucked version. Definitely do, it is so much fun shooting it from the corner of your mouth. Even though the recoil is virtually non-existant, it just makes you laugh. It is just so fun. Accurate, too, friend of mine dings man-sized targets at 150m with that little thing.
>32acp ain't stronk
Well, it isn't, but that didn't stop it from killing people before, why would it stop now. And if it doesn't work, hey, you've got no recoil and 20 in the mag.

Lastly, for the SBR vz.58, don't get overboard and buy the ultrashort pistol vz. It is bretty cool looking, almost like a 40k bolter, but I'm affraid you'd lose too much velocity and it'd be loud as fuck, throwing fireballs around.

I've hit stuff at closer to 100 yards with mine, that's about as far as I've taken it. You definitely need to move the rear sight to the 150 position when you do that though. Seems pretty good at compensating for the drop.

Here's the aforementioned beater SKS. I guess it does have a cleaning rod, not that I care one way or the other.

The Tech Sights really make it, IMO. That extra sight radius plus a proper aperture sight puts it into the next level. It's probably a 2-3 MOA rifle, which is fine for yotes, running pigs, and the occasional deer.

$300 at a pawn shop, I'm would have no fucks to give if this thing were lost or stolen.

A Nokia isn't nearly as tough as most wild squash unless you hit it with the Allspark first and you know it.

'Bout 150bucks here for the proper stocked version. Another 20 for wooden grip and 45 for five-pack of mags and I think I'll be set.

If you want a super-shorty fireball launcher and take it for what it is, by all means. What I meant is that you shouldn't expect too much practicality. When you do get it, SBR'd or not, make sure to shitpost it on Vz threads, I wanna see it.
I can totally see what you're getting at, though my calling is a sawn-off shotgat, mad max style.

Thanks for the civilised discussion, anon.

>Thanks for the civilised discussion, anon.
It's a sad state that civilized discussion can't just be the norm around here.
Everyone wants to jump down each other's throats if they so much as disagree whether sunkist or crush orange soda tastes better.
>>

Quite. But it might be just the threads I tend to visit. But had a meh day and this was a nice change of pace. That said, we had a real nice discussion on SKS's about two weeks back save for a few bait posts. Much less of a shitstorm than this thread. But yeah. Oh, btw, do you carry Vz. 58 and 61 simultaniously? Would you take the 61 as a big sidearm or for a tiny PPC in use? Or do you just have it as a grown-up toy?
>>
>>33565568
What is he gaining tactically by walking towards whomever is shooting at him while he's in a car?

He's better off jumping out and hitting prone... instead he's offering no changing sight picture to his attacker while moving and fucking up his own ability to shoot.

I swear, being high-speed is cool and all but there has to be a purpose to it.

Do you have downs or something? Or are you telling us you benchmark MOA accuracy with iron sights at 200 yards?

You know fine fucking well that the scope comment was a retort to your "hur dur 6 moa" remark... as if that's the best that an AK capable of.

Don't breed.

>>33567181
Its about overwhelming force. Dont give the a chance to shoot back.

>do you carry Vz. 58 and 61 simultaniously?
I have before, but normally don't. It's a comfy combo when you're holding the vz61 and have the light rifle on your back or something.
the vz61& vz58 10rd mag pouches both fit nicely and comfortably on a belt.
>do you just have it as a grown-up toy?
Mostly this, but it's closer to a full size pistol so it's not all that tough to carry. And it comes with a holster that fits the gun with a 10rd mag comfortably.

Implying you can't put down as much, if not more lead accurately from just jumping out and taking prone. Running around does nothing but hamper exactly what you said.

pump 12 gauge good truck gun or no? has over the top folding stock

I would personally prefer my enemies to run straight at me firing inaccurately while they did so. It would allow me an increasingly large target to hit, without worrying about lead. Or lead.

Something like this gets my vote, a side folding AK easily fits inside of a tennis bag with a magazine inserted, plenty of room for other mags too. Can take in and out of vehicle with little to know attention of onlookers. Thing is decent side folding AKs like the SLR107 are expensive. But a cheapo AK with a side folding stock will work. Great for shooting fat fucks at distance, even through car doors or other light cover.

Meets the requirements of zed.
