What's the point of scout rifles? I really don't get them
>>
>>33553392
kay. don't buy any then faggot
>>
>>33553392
Absolutely no point.
Other rifles do what they do but better.
>>
>>33553392
To be average at a lot of things instead of only being good at one thing.

back when detachable magazine bottom metal wasn't really a thing, some people desired easy access to the action for quick loading or the use stripper clips.
now that detachable magazines and the appropriate bottom metal or chassis are widely available for bolt actions they've lost their original niche unless except for the users simply prefer long eye relief.
>>
I like them because they actually have iron sights.

They're pretty
No gas system to worry about
Bolt actions are fun

Ya, they're dated but so is my single action revolver. Doesn't mean I cant enjoy them.

They would be okay for brush hunting if you need to use a full size cartridge for cheap. Levergats are best brush guns but anything other than 30-30 has a kike level price
>>
>>33553392
>What's the point of scout rifles?
Give gun magazine marketers an easy marketing term to pitch simple bolt-actions, hoping they can ruse all the people who don't realize it isn't 1983 anymore.

>>33553392
Some people really like the package.

Though I think for the barrel length, you may as well go for the CZ527, you'd get about the same ballistics with 7.62x39mm but with WAY cheaper ammo and less boom/flash, and the gun doesn't cost nearly as much, the size isn't all that far off either.

And I say this as someone who thinks the Ruger Scout is a pretty cool gun and is generally a big Ruger fanboy.

If you like the Ruger Scout and really want one, there isn't anything bad about it, but if you want a practical and light bolt-gun that can do what it does, the CZ makes much more sense economically and practically.
>>
>>33553638
Is that scope any good? Was looking at a Tikka X3, friend was trying to convince me to just get an AK. Would like a deer rifle just in case I ever decide to try.
>>
>>33553750
Not the guy you responded to, but you can't really go wrong with Leupold. Sure you'll a little extra (not much) for the name from time to time, but theuve always made solid quality optics. Not to mention their warranties are to die for.
>>
>>33553442
implying other guns aren't versatile
>>
>>33553392
It's an attempt by bolt action enthusiasts to make a gun as handy as a lever action rifle.
>>
>>33553921
No one is implying that. I'm sure your raifu fulfills many eclectic roles.

Ruger Scout rifles are factory made you nonce.

>Levergats are best brush guns but anything other than 30-30 has a kike level price
I enjoy my .44mag and can get ammo fairly cheap for it online.
>>
>>33553547
Handload.
>>
>>33554347
I think he meant initial investment. I wish I could find a decently priced marlin 1894 in 44 mag, but I can stroll on over to walmart and pick up a cheap 30-30 any day of the week.
>>
>>33554347
44 is definitely good but Is it enough for bigger game like moose??
>>
>>33553392
To have "do all" gun.

Also, on a bit of a side note, are any of you guys think that modern scout guns should have stripper clips guides?
>>
>>33554372
A +P softpoint or polymer tipped .44 Magnum should probably do a moose in if you make sure to hit the lungs. It's a pretty heavy bullet going at pretty high speeds (particularly out of a long barrel like that).

For what it's worth, .44 Magnum rifles are allowed for moose in countries like Sweden, where the law is so picky that you're not allowed to use a shotgun for them.
>>
>>33554458
Honestly, it couldn't hurt.

I think if the CZ527 was available with a stripper-clip guide, a 10 round magazine (preferably double-stacked, so it's not so long, fixed or detachable could go either way for me), and a forward top-rail, it'd be an absolutely supreme Scout Rifle.
>>
I love scout rifles. I made one as a senior project in high school. Took a Savage 110 in 270, and refinished the stock. Chopped the 24in barrel down to 18 and had it threaded, added a XS sight systems scout mount, and threw a TC pistol scope on there.
>>
>>33553392
Excuses for not wanting a modern reliable semi-auto.
>>
>>33554372
I carry it for bear defense in the woods. It's obviously not a long distance sniper round, but for dense OH FUCK moments in the brush, it's enough.
>>
>>33553392
They look cooler than normal rifles imo.
>>
>>33555706
Did you go to Mad Max high school? Dude I was middle school when Columbine happened, HS during 9/11. Guns in schools were a no no in AZ at the time (and since then I guess).
>>
>>33555787
I graduated two years ago, and even though I live in the only blue county in a red state, I was surprised I got the project approved.
>>
>>33555820
Well, shit. Now I feel old. What state would that be if you dont mind me asking?
>>
>>33555838
/K/ansas, I live in the 913
>>
>>33554126

>muh piece of history

who fucking cares
>>
>>33555677
What kind of 44mag have 2000+ joules at 100m? Seems impressive did not expect that out of 44mag
>>
>>33555847
Charleston currently. Doubt I'll ever get out there but sounds like a killer project, good job anon. Cheers.
>>
>>33553392

In theory it's a do all rifle that can be used on coyotes, elk, and bad hombres. Competently designed ones are 6 pounds or less so you can carry it all day on your ranch. It's just a term to describe one way to set up a short carbine in a full power cartridge. They really aren't useful in a urban or suburban setting so the youth thinks it's cool to bag on them.

I'm pretty retarded, whenever I heard or read "scout" rifle I'm thinking like military scouts. Those uniformed guys that go and gather information on an area and report back before the main component of the army moves. So I'm thinking something with a decent scope, a lightweight design, something semi auto. Instead its like guys who survive innawoods and shit, like Eagle Scouts and Girl Scouts with guns.
>>
>>33555905
Nobody is perfect.
>>
>>33553442
ARs are better at that.
>>
>>33555904
Looks good man. Took me a second to realize the CD case wasnt a front blade lol. So threaded, cool, what are you using for a muzzle device?
>>
>>33555961
5.56mm for elk hunting?
>>
>>33553392
Modern combat bolt action. That's it.
>>
>>33555967
That pic was taken before I purchased it, but currently there is a Midwest Industries two chamber brake on there.
>>
>>33553392
Jeff Cooper had some weird ideas.
>>
>>33555988
>put optic on jungle carbine stand in

Not that weird anon.
>>
>>33555971
Far from optimal but you can.

Or you can get an AR-10.
>>

Congrats. You're /k/ as fuck.
>>
>>33556032
AR-10 is 10-12 pounds loaded and scoped. Fine for combat, blind hunting, or plinking, but I wouldn't want to tote it around when rebuilding a fence.

Eh. KC isn't the only blue area. Lawrence is fucked as well. /k/ansas has some pretty based gun laws though. Constitutional concealed carry on campus after July 1st.
>>
>>33555871
Different guy, but this is the hottest .44 I found

https://www.buffalobore.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=54

I don't know the joule of this thing but it's advertised as being mighty hot. So hot that they only recommend it for a certain few guns (there's no lever-action rifle listed).

I'm thinking maybe if you load a .44 Magnum cartridge to like regular +P levels, and then use something like Lehigh Extreme Penetrators, then maybe you could get enough performance.

This you dumb cunts.
>>
>>33554458
completely unnecessary when you could just go with detachable magazines instead of some snowflake stripper shit.
if you drop the long eye relief scope, a short, handy rifle in 308 or similar caliber is basically any modern hunting rifle unless you get an excessively long or heavy barrel. the biggest thing you frequently miss out on to detriment of the concept that cannot be overcome with a chop and thread/crown are the iron sights.

>>33556793
this. he makes a lot of good points, namely that some of the original requirements of the scout concept are simply outdated or have been made unnecessary by availability of newer components or technology.
>>
The point is to be the least useless bolt action under Nazi or EU gun laws. They move up the food chain when semiautomatics and detachable magazines are banned.
>>
>>33553638
>about the same ballistics as x39
I don't think so. 308 isn't super barrel length sensitive , at rifle lengths at least.

Their was one test series in which a guy built a 308 with 24 inch barrel and did a whole series citing 2 inches off and recrowning each cycle for a real " apples to apples" test and the changes were underwhelming.
>>
>>33555692
mein negger

AK mag/SKS stripper fed CZ527 has been hunting my dreams for while now
sadly too much of a poor fag buy one let alone convert it
>>
>>33557640
Point is that clips are lighter than mags. If scout rifle has mag storage in stock (like Steyr) then you would have two mags for quick switch and rest ammo in clips for convenience and weight reduction sake.

But I do agree that scout rifle is not that far from modern hunting gun.
>>
Anyone have thoughts on the Howa Mini Action Rifle in 6.5 Grendel for target shooting and hunting? Trying to do homework on both manufacturer and cartridge and everything is either grendel zealots or outright commercials.
>>
>>33555847
Shit another 913?
What school did you go to?
