It's still an AK and has all the old AK quirks and flaws. It'll never be as good ergonomically as an AR unless they remake the entire weapon like the original AK-12, with a modern safety, dust cover, rail mount, etc.

Looks lame desu. Taking into account the interesting stuff they played with during development (all that recoil mitigation, burst fire, etc), this upgrade seems so marginal as to be pointless. Considering that the vast majority of their guys aren't even issued optics or lasers, the rails aren't even worth the effort since the well funded units that can afford to issue that kind of stuff already bought Zenitco or similar years ago. Seriously just dont see the point when many units still haven't received 74Ms yet.

Shooting things that aren't paper? Sending mud etc sky high or busting up ice?
I shoot both to 400 yards. They're both absolutely fine for steel shooting fun to that distance with irons so long as your target is visible.
Either way, I love every cartridge I shoot. But I think 762 is more fun than anything 22cal.

Who the fuck even cares at this point? The "new" AK gets released every other year and everybody shits themselves for a week. Then the Russian MoD order two dozen of them and everybody forgets it ever existed.

The AK-74M is in the exact same spot the M16 family is in. It's an old design, but it's simply not worth spending the resources to replace it with something that is arguably marginally better.
