yup, mud tests are still interesting to watch for curiosity sake, even though they're pretty predictable before they even fire
but they're retarded and anyone actually basing purchases on the results of one is even more retarded
>>
Are guns with an inbuilt magazine more prone to failure than magazines?
>>
>>33551572

yep, I'm sure mud test results are why the soviets switched from the SKS to the AK

ar15 of course
>>
>>33551909
yes, if you redesign it into a sealed system, it will fair much better but a detachable mag will still be better because it allows the gun to be emptied without spilling all the loose rounds in the mag.
>>
>>33551948

Ahh ok.

Thanks.

Anywhere we I can find out about different designs of parts and features with positive and negatives of them?

Like different mag releases etc.
>>
>>33551948
It also allows you to reload the gun without having to manually put in one round at a time. Plus the closed off system would remove the ability to use stripper clips.
>>
>>33551572
I wish they would figure out a way to drop the guns in the mud rather than pouring it over the receiver. It would be far more realistic
>>
>>33551902
Yes but the slow-mo footage shows the gas ports on the BCG blowing away mud before extracting the round, giving less chance for mud to enter while cycling.
>>
>>33551982

ok, but the reason the ar did so well is because it's a sealed system

>>
>>33552016

Technically not when the rifle is cycling, and its interesting to see if the gas ports on the BCG maybe in a factor in keeping dirt out of the action while firing.
>>
Wonder how an MCX would do. It worked on sending those queers in FL to hell and it's basically sealed like an AR upper wise. Wonder if water egress would fuck with the springs like it did in MACs test.

And F2000 would probably be mint. PS90 less so as seen by the RDB.

when the bolt is all the way back, the ar is like every other gun where only the bore is tossing gas into the receiver.
the advantage the ar has is how the opening is angled, it's got a bit of an outward flare making it difficult for shit to fall in the action.

So the SKS failed a test that gorillion other guns failed. Are you going to value a rifle by failing at one thing that's pretty unlikely to happen in the first place? Dunno about woods where you're at, but mud doesn't rain from the sky and dunking your rifle in a pit of mud and firing it immediately after is just dumb anyways.

That being said, I didn't think it'd fail to extract that bad.

My assumption is that it would do as well, but if enough mud got up in the handgaurd slots it might gum up the piston and cause a jam.

Does the video show a ps90? Because the rdb is wholly different. Not defending the p90, but you're doing the equivalent of saying the ar and AK have the exact same reliability and faults because they eject out the right hand side. Which makes you look pretty retarted.

GUNS: The Kalashnikov Rifle in Security Contracting - Part 2

Romanian AK’s are the bomb

Out of all the AK’s here in Iraq the Romanian AK’s are far superior to all others I have used. I tested 6 Romanian AK’s by firing thousands of rounds through them every week and then storing them in a damp conex over a 6 month period without a single cleaning and they still ran like new.

Those Romanian AK’s are still going to this day [coming up on 8 months without cleaning]. Even more impressive some of the Romanian AK’s I use and test were made as far back as 1961.

So if you are working in Iraq and you have a choice, get your hands on Romanian made AK’s

On a side note I tried to do the same thing with an M4 and it didn’t make it to the second week before it stopped feeding rounds completely.

Wasn't it kind of obvious that the SKS would have trouble with mud? The fact that its entire top is open to get gummed up with mud and shit means it would be prone to jams if you submerged the thing in mud.

What would be more interesting to see is if you got a bunch of guns filled with mud so they couldn't fire, but then rated them on how easy it was to clean to them out without any sort of tools besides maybe a rag and a stick.

It should be kind of obvious that shovelling mud onto a rifle isn't representative of any real-world situation. The SKS, AK, AR-16, etc. all have fine records in sustained combat conditions, and yet here we are.

Instead of opening up discussion about what reliability actually means, it's just low-effort TFB TV levels of clickbait shit to perpetuate retarded memeing rather than furthering any sort of discourse or productive discussion.

I can just imagine these guys doing car videos: "I drove my car drunk and blindfolded backwards down a freeway after not putting oil in it for a year, and for some reason it didn't work out well!"

So what's the fucking point of this video? To show us that literally every mechanical device in the world requires a certain modicum of maintenance in order to continue to function properly? In my military experience, AR is good Gun. light and accuracy, but it need clean.
Mud and water are not easy to got in the AR receiver. But if they GOT in the receiver(fall into a swmp or tropical Cloudburst fuckin' rain), cleaning the AR receiver will take more time then other old school military rifle.

Every gun have its break point. A old gun like M14 or SKS is open top, so the mud will go in, but cleaning it isn't so difficult.

And without mud problem, AR need Clean after some shot to make it works well. M14 also need that, but as I say ,is easier .

Sure, for this problem, the King of semi-auto battle rifle is still AK-47. A 10 years old kid can learn how to clean a AK in few hours, and AK also need clean but much less than a AR, or SKS.

And as I know , Chinese PLA like SKS because its more accuracy than AK in semi-auto shot. They made Type 81 Rifle to replace their AK and SKS both. Type 81 looks like AK, but mechanism is more like a SKS.
Sri Lankan use the chinese T81 to end the civil war finally. and a few amount of T81 are used in Myanmar civil war.

>oh wait i forgot there are no falling down mechanics in the FPS games, silly me

Why don't you watch this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYfGq1yk66Q

Notice how they have to press the rifles into the mud and slide them around on the action? That still isn't even close to how much mud is on top of most of the rifles in these tests. Does it really have to be mentioned that if you were a real shooter in a real shooty shooty, you wouldn't be so grossly negligent?

Simply stated, if you think that propping a rifle up on a wheel barrow and shoveling mud onto it is similar to falling into mud, it's probably because you've never walked through mud deep enough to submerge a rifle into anyways. Don't worry though! The AR-15 is the *most reliable rifle on earth* and you'll never have to worry about getting ambushed by a wheelbarrow full of mud next time you shoot it off a bench at the 300m range.

What camo is he wearing and where can i get it?
>>
>>33551948
What if I had both?
A mag and a cover on the top to use stripper clips?

In the event you only have one mag.
>>
>>33561739
AK can do that just need a custom select to hold the bolt back.
AK can shoot without receiver cover.
>>
>>33561861
Which one?

Is the receiver cover completely removed or does it flip open?

sorry, I forget not only the bolt but gas piston will block the top of magazine.

Well, if you live somewhere like California that you can't buy a Rifle with detachable magazine, old school open top clip feedable auto rifle is still good choice. Just learn how to clean it.

BTW, I remember Norinco made a model called SKS-M can use AK detachable magazine.

I'm just theorizing gun designs that's all.

Do you think a forked design might work?
>>
>>33562039
Forked design rifle worked in some Hell like WW2 and Vietnam War.
Without pistol grip and straight stock, they are not suitable to full auto. But in semi-auto shooting they are still accuracy enough.
Because their iron sight are closer to the barrel than modern style auto-rifle like AR, in semi-auto shooting without scope they are easier to shoot accuracy, just like old bolt-action rifle.
>>
>>33562106

How would a pistol grip and straight stock affect it?

Any examples of firearms that used this?
>>
>>33562106
Also is there a difference between the gas block being on the bottom or the top?

What are the pros and cons

I meant affect the forked design.

Sorry for being unclear, not the way the gun works :P
>>
>>33562225
The gas system on the bottom make the sight line closer to the barrel and easy to feed bullet from top.
The Machine Gun like PKM or FN MAG is still use lower gas system.
The gas system on the top are just the opposite.
>>
>>33562225
You don't want the magazine on the top because it would get in the way of the sights. You need the gas block and piston to press on the bolt, and everybody likes a (mostly) symmetric design. If it's on the bottom, it has to get around the magazine somehow. In Garands and the like, this means it needs an oprod that sits to the side of the action. If it's on top, this problem disappears and the force from the gas can travel back in a straight line above the action to the bolt. This works fine as long as you don't need to load stripper clips. In rifles that use them, they use a short recoil system so that the piston doesn't block the stripper clip's path.
>>
>>33562274
Thanks.

I guess I'll just use the stripper for the magazine.

So stripper clips only work with certain magazines?

Look at this.
The AR has a very big iron sight and the Mini -14's iron sight are smaller.
>>
>>33562289
You shouldn't need clips for any rifle, but any rifle really designed around using them (bolt action rifles, early open topped semi-autos) almost always have clip guides on the bolt. Unless your ammo all comes on stripper clips, don't bother trying to use them to fill magazines.

>>33552716
it's not meant to be a perfect simulator, it's a worst case.
and from the worst case, you can extrapolate what a normal scenario would be.
in short: sks a shit

And look the line link the shooter's eye and the iron sight.
>>
>>33562299
Also (not that anon), the gas system is under the barrel, bringing the barrel more in line with the sights. The SKS has has the barrel on the bottom and the gas system on top, so the sites are closer ot the bore and don't require a big post in front.
>>
>>33562299

I understand that the sites will be closer to the barrel.

>>33562314
Now I'm confused.

So is the barrel being closer to the sites better or the has system?

>>33562300
I understand. I guess I'll ditch that then.
>>
What design would be better for a dmr, Bullpup or the standard ?
>>
>>33551572
Cetme did it better
>>
>>33562339
Standard.
Because the Bullpup design make trigger far from the fire action system.
>>
What do you think about shell deflectors?

Specifically for bulpups

>>33562364
Thanks
>>
>>33551572
grab AR-15, go innawoods
>>
>>33562326
The barrel being closer to the sights isn't that important so long as its taken into account when the sights are designed. This is why most modern guns have recoil that travels straight back into the shooter's shoulder and sights higher above the bore axis.

Really, if you're interested in such things, I'd suggest binge watching Forgotten Weapons. He disassembles guns, critiques poorly designed trials guns, and generally provides a lot of information about firearm design. It sounds like you have a lot to learn, so if you're thinking of designing anything other than a mockup or just expanding your knowledge, you should research a lot more and hang around for a few years.
>>
>>33562383
Thanks.
I understand that its the recoil which is primarily being solved.
I have watched a few..
