Here, we talk about jungle/bushwar tactics (guerrilla/counterguerrilla sort of deal), equipment, clothing and weapons. 80s BDU always welcome
shit i dunno
>>33548696
A couple of my .mil friends say that jungle mags are a meme. They've never been in the jungle, nor have they been infantry, nor have they been in a dismounted firefight. Maybe my .mil friends are just faggots.
>Pepsi Generation
>>33548733
They sound like absolute faggots talking out of their ass
>>33548696
Mexican guerrillas belong on /fa/
>>33548696
So the rhodies were the some of the best counter insurgency forces to date. How did they do it? What tactics did they employ?
im making a woolland movement to contact drawing.
Need to add more shade.
>>33548696
>>33548994
They only fought niggers
I get real sick of the meme that conventional forces can never defeat guerilla forces.
>>33550752
G thx
Let's go gear for a minute. I live in the SE US and conditions in the summer have made me think about this.
What is the point of throwing on a poncho/rainsuit when it's raining if it's so hot that you will basically sweat yourself completely wet anyway?
>>33548696
The best jungle/bush warriors were the Rhodesians. Small fire squads push in and attack, the armor fills in the gaps, then airborne troops insert from the rear and they all close in.
>>33548696
>pepsi
fucking dropped
>>33550952
Probably isn't a point dude. I'd go without the poncho cause they're noisy, get in the way, trap your body heat and rain won't make you melt.
>>33551064
Calm down, they might not've sold Coke in whatever country he's in. Especially thirty years ago, plenty of countries only had one or the other.
>>33551075
Consider a ponchos uses as improvised shelter or for long rainy guard duty.
>>33551236
Just bring a trash bag lmao
>>33550957
What were they equipped with, other than FALs and short shorts
>>33551563
>needing more than a FAL and shortest shorts to slot floppies
the guys who defeat american

>>33551733
Remind me. How many battles did they win?
>>33551996
Thank you anon
>>33552025
The Battle of Vietnam.
>>33552113
Kek
Why did troops carry shotguns with them in Vietnam?
>>33552516
Close quarters combat is a very real possibility in a jungle, anon
"A Handful of Hard Men"
Best book on Rhodesian bush war SAS tactics. Historical in nature but has so much juicy knawledge in it.
>>33552764
were they hard the whole time?
>>33552876
I hope so anon
>>33548994
Look up "Fireforce"
>>33550929
I know this is a 7 hour old shitpost
But the British were no where near their peak, their focus was not all on America at all, India was their gem, and the revolution was more like a civil war where most of the combatants were Americans
I find it more solemn than anything
>>33550957
don't forget the Portuguese
>tfw that first beer after burning nigger shacks
>>33552113
is it loosing when the NVA is back the fuck out of the entire country and then a few national guard losers kill a few hippies so you gotta pull out to appease the people.
dumping my vietnam folding with a few pacific WWII mixed in.
this shit is going to go on for a while.
>>33551563
Everything really. They used anything the floppies dropped as they were under embargo and couldn't resupply their forces. The terrs were being armed by the USSR but were also given cash to buy guns on the market in Africa, so it got passed down the line, and Rhodies ended up using everything from C96's to M1's to SKS to Brens.
What are some good jungle boots for innawoods or general STALKERing?
>>33548832
90s uniform had a nice appeal to them.

im taking a break.
these captchas suck.
Filipino Scout Ranger Regiment guys
>>33555091
2 weapons that are arguably best for jungle warfare gotta be
>carbine/smg
>shotgun(especially break action shotgun)
Jungle warfare isn't just about fighting yo enemies in the jungle, but also tracking them, outflanking them, set perimeter and kill zone et cetera so you need a gun that is light but can deliver volume and firepower needed
>>33555521
>>33548696
Look up Mano Dura Contra La el Crimen (Strong Hand Against Crime). Local Puerto Rican syndicates that were trading and being supplied by the Cartels got their asses handed by the Insular Police with assistance from the National Guard. It was BOPE tier during the 90s when they were cracking down against weapons and drug caches in CaserÃos (Projects), Ghettos and caches out in the countryside (ie. Rainforests, grasslands and mountains) before being discontinued in 1996. It wasn't until 2004 that the plan was reactivated for the second crime wave thanks to the economic depression that's going on in here.

Wouldn't those front pouches get in the way of your legs? Especially if you prone
>>33550957
where is this pic from? reenactment?
>>33555521
Wouldn't you not want a single or two shot weapon then?
>>33555873
Well yeah but that's what the average home guard was equipped with to fight commies
>>33552537
I think it had more to do with clearing jungle shacks and foxholes
>>33548733
>>33548778
They probably are faggots if they have an opinion on this shit.
>>33555040
When you leave the country and the guys you were fighting roll in with tanks and take it over, yes that is called losing.
>>33552516
Same reason they did in the Pacific campaigns in WW 2. Tons of short range stopping power.
>>33554569
Funny, the Brits were the only conventional army to completely smash and defeat a gorilla army in Malaya post WW2
>>33550952
never neglect the opportunity to be dry. Never.
also I'm really not one to sweat so I'd always take a rainsuit. I don't wear the poncho. That's for covering my sleeping bag/rucksack.
Need sources on info about the equipment of different military and paramilitary forces in the 1980s.
Please /k/, /lit/'s been useless
>>33555521
It's also about having a caliber that is capable of punching through leaves/branches without deflecting off course. 5.56 is not good for that. "brush guns" are good for this.
>>33555135
>you will never be this ridiculously badass
los pepe
Malaysian experience during 1970s-1990 2nd Communist Insurgency also a good subject to study. Malaysia becoming the only nation managed to completely defeated Communist insurgency without any foreign intervention and fighting two fronts (Malay peninsular + Borneo) at the same time.
>>33551064
coke, like you, sucks ass
>>33558911
What were their tactics and what equipment were they issued?
>>33560359
Mostly a mix of Commonwealth and American equipment. Due to fluid nature of jungle combat, most of the Malaysian troops typically ditched their helmet and basic necessities like spare clothes or specialized ration (e.g jungle ration or mre). But they supplemented that loss with heavier ammunition and firepower. Key success for the Malaysian is highly cooperation between Malaysian Armed Forces and Royal Malaysian Police resulting high-rate of intelligence whether HUMINT or SIGINT.
>>33558732
>>33560832
>>33560359
Plus due to nature of thick jungle negates to role of the heavy armour. Although the Communist were equipped with anti-armour weapon smuggled from North Vietnam, The Malaysian usually use armoured car like V-150 or Ferret scout car for defensive or convoy protection mission.
>>33563240
More important role for the Royal Malaysian Air Force is CAS (By F-5E or Canadair Tebuan) and combat resupply/MEDEVAC. The tough S-61 Nuri is the workhouse and little Aloutte III gunship provides the aerial protection (The Malaysian also send some of its officer to Rhodesia before UDI for gunship training).
A documentary about S-61 Nuri
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8OjQi8V5IU
>>33563262
The Royal Malaysian Navy role is considered as minimal during insurgency. But, their role are still important especially to protect Malaysian water from Philippines terrorist and Vietnam effort to smuggled arms and supply to communist terrorist.
>>33563274
For the Royal Malaysian Police. The considerable effort were put to ensure the highly efficient intelligence. The communist terrorist supply line were disrupted by relocating known Chinese sympathizer. The RMP General Operation Force paramilitary and Senoi Praaq jungle tracker unit (some of them were send to Vietnam to teaches the SEAL's and LRRP the art of jungle combat ) operates within operation area near any civilian settlement thus reducing any local civilian casualty (And increasing public trust) and allow the military got a free hand against communist terrorist held area (Who forced to operated far from any civilian area).
>>33548733
"jungle" mags are a meme though. if you're in a muddy ass jungle creeping around, the last thing you want is for your magazine just open to the environment, catching mud and vines and shit. it's a shitshow.
Look at pictures of MACV-SOG guys gear and nary a jungle mag to be seen.
