F16 crashes in DC

how the fuck does this even happen with the f16?
>>
>>33545524
sometimes planes crash anon.
>>
>>33545524
how much trouble does a pilot get in for this?
>>
>>33545553
It depends on the cause.

pic related must have been the pilot
>>
maybe it's 40 years old and decided to end it all
>>
>>33545553

Regardless of the cause, he's going to be grounded for a long ass time until the safety investigation concludes. If the crash was not his fault, he'll continue flying. If they determine he was the cause for the incident, he can kiss his wings and career goodbye.

It sucks, but there is a very high standard of safety in aviation and everyone will be second guessing this guy's every move during the crash over the next few months. If you've seen the movie Sully, that's a good idea of the amount of stress he'll be under. Sully did everything right and pulled off a miracle landing, but he was still being judged by every armchair pilot on the investigation board. The running joke among pilots is they put your wings on a velco nametag for a reason. They can rip it off real quickly.

>The public, as well as pilots and others in the aviation industry, who see the film may get the wrong impression that investigators were trying to smear the pilot
>We’re not the KGB. We’re not the Gestapo,” said Robert Benzon, who led the National Transportation Safety Board’s investigation. “We’re the guys with the white hats on.”
>It’s true that those questions were asked, and many more, over the course of the 18-month investigation, but that’s just part of NTSB’s meticulous investigation process that is intended to find all possible flaws
>Hanks told The Associated Press in an interview that a draft script included the names of real-life NTSB officials, but Sullenberger — who is an adviser on the film — requested they be taken out.
>“He said, ‘These are people who are not prosecutors. They are doing a very important job, and if, for editorial purposes, we want to make it more of a prosecutorial process, it ain’t fair to them,’ ” said Hanks. “That’s an easy thing to change.”
>Tom Haueter, who was the NTSB’s head of major accident investigations at the time and is now a consultant, said he fears the movie will discourage pilots and others from fully cooperating with the board in the future.
>“There is a very good chance,” said Haueter, “that there is a segment of the population that will take this as proof of government incompetence and it will make things worse.”

Good boy. Yes. Believe what you see in Hollywood movies.

Shit happens, something a lot of vets know and fully appreciate.

You and everyone you serve with can do their job perfectly. Shit still happens.

Sure the USAF review will conclude ten years from now that X is to blame.
>>
>>33545796
Except that didnt happen. The investigation team of sully was very supportive and pretty much approved of his actions from the start. The investigation was only a technicality to definitivley prove what they already knew. That he was a doddamned hero and handled it flawlessly.

Hollywood just turned the story into a "underdog hero vs a bunch of incompetant scapegoating officials" piece because a story of a pilot saving the day and all the investigators backslapping him afterwards isnt dramatic enough.
>>
>>33547479
Yeah, shit happens. If its not related to pilot error (most crashes are) then they are gonna go through the wreckage with a fine toothed comb and magnifying glass to find out what component failed and why.

Then, they are going to find whatever maintainer signed off on it and string him up by his balls.

Had a helo we were in land on our casevac LZ team in afghan. Turned into a 3 year long clusterfuck that ended with the pilot and crew-chief both getting kicked out of the military.

Turns out they hated eachother and let thier unprofessional spat get in the way of communicating properly, pilot couldnt see and didnt want to ask the crew chief anything so they both just assumed it was good and set a CH-46 on top of our platoon turning a single casualty into a mass casualty event.

Pilot even tried to harass a guy whod broke his pelvis and spine in the incident. Tried to guilt trip him into "doing the right thing" and "admitting" it was our fault he landed on us out of the blue.

Turns out getting high and mighty with a guy you incompetently landed your helicopter on just prior to a hearing doesnt buy you favors.
>>
>>33547861
Sorry, made a mistake. Meant to say helo we called in, not helo we were in.

Had a casualty, set up an LZ, started taking sporadic fire. My section went to engage while 2nd section and the ANA squad that was with us stayed behind to hold the perimeter of the LZ.

CH-46 pilot gave no warning to the LZ team and came in way too fast, overshot the LZ and landed directly on top of our guys.

Due to brownout and because they were facing outwards from the lz in security positions they had no idea what was happening until the helo landed on them.

Got 6 casualties on top of the one we were trying to evac plus 3 ANA who werent in the prone died.

Pilot tried to go to my buddy in the hospital and say that he was just trying to save lives and it wouldnt be fair to destroy his career just because our LZ team didnt do thier jobs. In reality our LZ team did nothing wrong.

My buddy told my battalion commander about it and the pilot got in even more hot water than he already was. He got fist fucked for it as well as the crew chief.

The only scumbag in the Sully investigation was Sen. Mica and he was more interested in blaming the air traffic controllers for 'dumbing down their radar so they couldn't see the birds' (this is impossible to do). He was practically laughed out of the hearing.
>>
>>33547861
>>33547993
>the helicoptor pilot killed the only ANAs who could form a perimeter
Shame about that.

Also you would think the guy would have a better plan than saying 'sorry not sorry' but then again anyone who has the emoyional depth of a highschool girl probably isnt the best interpersonally
>>
>>33548081
We had a few ANA guys who werent too bad. I mean they werent good (hence standing instead of prone) but you could tell them to do stuff and theyd be atleast better than useless.

And yeah, the squadron we were relying on were pretty shitty. Only a few months after our incident the same squadron had to do a forced landing outside the wire because they forgot to refuel it.

Im a grunt so I dont know what goes into flying but youd think that fuel would be a pretty major part of the pre-flight checks.

iglas with 2 missiles are less than 100k on the black market. how much can you extort the military for after you shoot down an f16? is the 100k investment worth it and will the military pay? or will delta kill you and your entire bloodline?
>>
>>33548259

Why the fuck would they pay you anything? Are we talking about the Italian military?

well if youre a tier 1 terrorist group/criminal organization, you could send them proof it was you and then tell them an anonymous way to pay or you'll do it again. if its a reasonable enough price, theyll probably just pay and then try to find you to avoid getting their shit blown up again.

What is the point trying to be made here?
>>
>>33550037
That the investigators aren't like what they're portrayed as in the movie
>>
>>33550099
Oh that's true, the movie made them out to be super harsh and questioning everything Sully said, but in actuality apparently they we're super chill (as much as you can be investigating a plane crash)

Yeah, you'd think so.
