Does /k/ into black powder? I received this from my father and other than knowing how to shoot it, no nothing else about it.

Can you add a scope mount and a single rail beneath it?
>>33541642
>>33541642
Only if you get rid of that crappy wood stock and replace it with a polymer tactical one. Don't forget the laser and vertical grip.
>>33541575
Black powder is a lot of fun
>>33541575
Nice Kentucky style percussion carbine replica.
>>33541575
Tommy is that you?
>>33541992
Not a revolver guy, what is this?
>>33541575
Are there any black powder rifles that use 209 shotgun primers, but still look like an old school rifle?
>>33542076
They make conversions but they are a hassle to reload http://www.cabelas.com/product/Davide-Pedersoli-Primer-Nipple-Conversion-Kit/1608590.uts
>>33541575
I bought a Pietta 1858 Sheriff's model 7 months ago.
still haven't shot it :'(
>>33542050
colt dragoon, you can find a cheap entry model 'kit' from traditions or go for an uberti or pieta
Afaik there isn't much of a difference in quality but those are the two name brands.
>>33541992
What cylinder is that ?
I bought an engraved brass-frame Colt 1851 recently. Haven't shoot it yet because I figured I'd buy all the accessories for cheap later. I've already got the powder, the balls, caps, cleaning rods (must have), grease... What else do I need ?
>>33541575
I have a Pietta 1860 Army repro. I love loading and shooting it. Spending almost a whole minute reloading it is half the fun. It's a lot more accurate than I thought it would be, too. Pic related is mine
Im looking forward to buying BP gun since they are legal without permit in my country
What powder are you suppose to use when loading these things?
>>33541575
its a hawken replica
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawken_rifle
you already know how to shoot it, what else do you want to know?
>>33541575
That looks like a hawkens rifle not a kentucky rifle. They are pretty sweet. You'll be like Jeremiah Johnson.
>>33541575
It's a very nice Hawken. I'm guessing it's a Thompson Center.
The first thing op needs to learn is how to properly clean the rifle after firing. Black powder residue is HIGHLY corrosive. If the rifle is not cleaned immediately after a range session, there is a good chance it will be ruined by corrosion.
Find out the caliber and twist rate of the barrel. (I'd guess 1:48) So you can determine what projectiles to use. If it's 1:48 you'll be able to use conical bullets or a patched round ball.
Locate a powder measure for black powder. It is measured by volume, not by weight like smokeless powder.

No.
I have some no name Italian .45 percussion rifle
/k/anada fag here
I'm probably going to get some kind of muzzleloading blackpowder rifle for deer hunting since my state has a special "muzzleloader-only" season that lasts for 2 weeks after the general rifle season is over. Can't decide on what I want, I'd rather get a more modern muzzleloader that takes shotgun primers instead of some flintlock or percussion cap replica.
>>33542530
That depends on what the manufacturer recommends and what your experimentation finds out. Typically 1Fg and 1.5Fg get used in cartridges, 2Fg gets used in muskets, 3Fg in pistols and 4Fg gets used in priming. The catch is that there is no hard rule. I use 2Fg more in cartridge and I use 3Fg in my Pattern 1858 Enfield Rifled Musket.

>effective range 400 yards
I want what hes smoking
Op here,
Its a Lyman deerstalker in .54
My father taught me how to shoot it but never mentioned what type of powder or how much, I also heard there is different thickness patches to adjust your groupings.
>>33542901
If you do your part it'll do it all day
>>33542914
That's a very nice rifle op.
Just remember: cleaning is vital
>>33542050
It's an 1860 Army in .44. By Uberti. Cap&Ball youtube guy approved.
>>33542360
The cylinder is fluted, but it should be slotted. I don't mind.

>>33542901
mine shoots like 2" groups at 100 yds and i suck with the buckhorn sights, if you got a lyman style peephole im sure i could do much better. im sure at 400 yards you could hit a large animal like a bear
>>33542914
You want something like a .52 caliber ball and a patch around .010. You can also try the .015 patches, but they may be too tight.
I recommend around 60 grains of BP or BP substitute.
>>33542050
It's pure sex in a pistol. Those curves.
>>33541575
Found this kit on a garage sale. Turns out it's an early CVA with a US made Douglas barrel. Had a blast finishing it and it shoots like a dream.
>>33545063
Inspired me to make some accessories too.
>>33542901
That's a rifle, not a musket.
>>33545034
>bp revolver that isn't a Walker
Sure for the price of one you can get a brace of smaller ones but you only need one.
>>33545063
Nice, how much did it run you at the garage sale?
>>33547382
25 bucks. box was open and parts were loose. missing some screws but that was it. No one had even tried to assemble the kit yet.
>>33548147
I'm jelly
>>33547062
Some one say Walker?
>>33545063
May all of /k/'s blessings be opon you anon!
We need more like you.
>>33542914
Get the book. Everything you need to know and more.
It might look like this.
>>33542806
Two band?
>>33550611
"THREE BAND!"
>>33545063
>>33545072
