The truth about this cartridge is that Mr. Glock wanted to be immortalized in caliber lore like Colt and S&W and others, but he went with something whose advantages are marginal.


45 GAP uses a different, more efficient primer, which causes some better performance. This means that a hot GAP is roughly the same as a standard ACP, while being slightly shorter.


The problem is that GAP is (purposefully) used in the same frame as 9mm/40 to accommodate tiny hands, which means that its pretty damn close to being aligned like a single stack mag. The full size Glock 37 has a pitiful mag capacity of 10 rounds, in the same frame that 9mm holds 17 and .40 holds 15. The Glock 21, full size ACP, holds 13. To add to all of this, GAP ammo is expensive compared to common calibers.

If I were to have been in their shoes, I would have simply named it the .46 GAP regardless of actual dimensions, to appease the size queens and MAYBE, with just a little bit of our American retardation towards bore size, it would have stood a chance in a market with proven calibers.

Regular spec 9mm is loaded for guns with shit metallurgy from the 1930s.

It's all about energy to target, and with a good 9mm load you can match the energy of even +P .45 loads for greater magazine capacity.

Primarily concussion (it honestly feels like a 10.5 inch AR,) cost (at least it will always be on the shelves during panics,) and the fact that it's a solution looking for a problem that doesn't exist anymore. Projectile technology has improved to the point that unless you're looking to shoot through windshields it's not really an advantage anymore.

And its kinda fucked up but the original AMT was chambered for 10mm Magnum, which is an auto round just like a 10x25 except magnum length.

Desert Eagle could have been feeding those and helped the cartridge take off without even having to bother with getting rimmed revolver cases to stack properly.
