why the fuck are these things so god damn expensive in the US? these are a grunt's favorite toy (fucking every war since they was invented, soldiers have used them) i heard they are cheap and insanely easy to come by, in the middle east and Africa, so why are they 600-850 dollars in the US? you'd figure they would only be about 350-450$

is there any AK variant that's cheaper? i would like to get one ,but holy hell are they pricey
>>
>>33538741

Well sure you could potentially make them that cheap but they'd be utter shit.
>>
Because milling/stamping and demand with quality materials is better than pot metal shit that was used and abused by some snow/sand niggers... Plus import/funswitch bans make those not surface in the US.

Also, WASR is a decent cheap starter AK. It ain't a cheap hobby, so if you can, just buy it in pieces till you make the one you'd like.
>>
>>33538741
Hello, fellow fitizen. :^)
>>
Because even a steaming pile of shit costs a lot to import from across an ocean.
>>
>>33538741
>i heard they are cheap

Guess you heard wrong.
>>
>>33538741
There are few things more painful today than wanting to buy an AK in this market...

If you can't afford an Arsenal, don't bother...
>>
>>33538741
VZ 58 is the cheapest AK you can find
>>
>>33539341
if I wanted to throw money away on a gun that's finish will cook off in 3 magazines I'd buy a.. well come to think of it an Arsenal is the only piece of shit that does that.
>>
>>33538741
100% because of import bans and sanctions.
>>
>>33539511
Fucking kys
>>
>>33539511
Poor person pls. Stop being butthurt at things you'll never afford
>>
>>33538741
>i heard they are cheap and insanely easy to come by
Compared to other precision engineered tools for throwing lead slugs at high velocities and high rates of fire.

Easy to come by because they've been stamped by the million in every industrialized country.

"Expensive" in the US because import bans and need to make a profit.
>>
>>33538780
i still can't believe i posted this thread on /fit/ on a accident.. i legit feel like a dumb fuck, i had multiple 4chan boards open at once. ironically this is my first time ever being on this board, because im too poor to buy a gun

>AK-47 hasn't been in large-scale mass production pretty much since the late 1950s.
>AKM replaced it due to be lighter/cheaper by a significant margin
>AKM is the most common assault rifle on Earth, not AK-47
>Milled receiver is a lot heavier and more expensive to produce than a stamped receiver
>Really, only an idiot would want an AK-47 instead of an AKM. Like wanting a Desert Eagle instead of an M1911 unless you're going hunting, and even then it would be better to take a revolver
>OP is retarded and doesn't know even the basic history of the AK design and probably doens't even know the difference between AK-47 and AKM, if he's even HEARD of the AKM before

/thread
>>
>>33540157
op here.

im insanely new to guns, and this board. so i understand i will get called a retarded nigger a lot..
>>
>>33540157
I mean, you're right and wrong. referring to Type 1, Type 2, and Type 3 AK's as "AK-47" is almost as bad as referring to all AK's and "AK-47"
>>
>>33540169
Which type of AK was the majority? I'm quite certain it was the milled receiver one, and so anyone who regards all AK-47s as milled receiver variants is pretty much correct. Stamped receiver wasn't perfected with the aid of improved welding technology until 1959 to my knowledge.

>>33540167
You were making assumptions and seemed to not even know about the AKM, so yeah, I'd say you were acting retarded. This isn't /b/ however so typically you don't here 'nigger' being tossed around too often, but having pointed it out the small /pol/ population that seems to lurk here may very well spam this with (you)s filled with nigger.

>>33540169
Anyways, pointing out the different types of AK-47 sounds to me like if you heard someone say "the AR-15 is a .223 rifle" then point out that you can get them in .300 Blackout, 7.62x39, .308, and many other rifles so it's somehow 'bad' to say that the AR-15 is for .223 or 5.56. I'm all for being specific, but at some point it's just being autistic.
>>
>>33540230
I'm just going to go ahead and reply to everything in this post just so we're clear on a few things you don't seem to understand.

There were of the Type 1, 2, and 3 the type 3 was the most produced. Both the Type 2 and Type 3 were milled though.
>This isn't /b/ however so typically you don't here 'nigger' being tossed around too often, but having pointed it out the small /pol/ population that seems to lurk here may very well spam this with (you)s filled with nigger.

It's literally not. The AK-47 terminology is just something that got lost in translation and generally, at best, refers to the Type 1.

>>
>>33539341
Zastava N-PAPs are perfectly good to go if you don't mind the Yugo furniture and side rail. Just as good as Arsenal.
WASRs are fine if you take the time to check them properly for cant and good riveting. Quality control is spotty, so it's up to you to make sure you get a good one.

Besides that, you have your choice of a used converted Saiga (harder and harder to find), or Kreb's ($$$$$$$)

The pickings are relatively slim, but Arsenal is not by any means the only make out there worth getting.

The SKS isn't awkward because of its weight.

>>
>>33541858
This. veprs in 54r are single stack but I believe most of them in x39 are double. If they're not it's really not that hard to cut the slot to proper size and hone it with a hand file.
>>
>>33542048
Why is it that no one makes stamped 5.45 receivers in the US?

The only affordable 74s are the polish guns, there's a proper market for these.

I heard DDI is coming out with new stuff, fingers crossed

Also the design you can just stencil onto a piece of metal and make a stamped receiver for like ten dollars..
>>
>>33542952
>wants to be enlightened
>promptly shits on said enlightenment

Here, I'll try for your sake.
Nodak makes quality receivers with straight rails and good heat treatment. They make them with realistic markings if you want to make a repro of a specific variant, and they make special variants for just about any AK you can think of. They're one of the few, if not the only, making 5.45 receivers, and they were one of the first on the scene doing all of this, before the AK bug bit everyone - I'd even argue that they're in part responsible for the AK's rise in popularity, since they contributed greatly to all the parts kits building early on by making all the unique variant receivers.

In other words, if you don't know who NDS are and why they're respected and worth the money, you're a newfag. Their stuff is top notch quality, your home-bent flat with crooked rails isn't even in the same league. Welcome to /k/, now git out.
>>
>>33543294
And how does that make them better than russian or other combloc made receivers?
If you had an option, would you take nodak over russian/soviet made?
>>
>>33543656
They're comparable in quality. Difference is that I can't get Russian made receivers for every combloc variant under the sun - nevermind even Russian receivers for plain vanilla shit, since Saigas were import banned.
>>
>>33543705
People talk about this ban but dont realize howmany of them were imported, again I can get a functional saiga in 7.62x39 for 500 and I live in newyork.... Maybe we bought them all for in state sale because of the ban? I'm not sure but I can tell you after five builds saiga/combloc is what I prefer. American makes have a lot of rough edges but I guess I'm a know-nothing newfag.
>>
>>33543656
>And how does that make them better than russian or other combloc made receivers?
Who ever said they were? Whose mouth are you even putting these words in?
>If you had an option, would you take nodak over russian/soviet made?
No, but that's not an option. Not even for AK-74M/100s, now.
>>
>>33543790
As previously stated, if you had read the thread, not everyone is limited to american made ak receivers.
>>
>>33541817

>>
>>33541973
>WASRs are fine if you take the time to check them properly for cant and good riveting. Quality control is spotty, so it's up to you to make sure you get a good one.
wasr has been consistent with QC since like 2012, will you fags ever stop memeing old info?
>>
>>33543813
Ok, what do YOU think the foreign options are? Romanian AKM kits can be built off of WASR receivers, O-PAPs can be turned into M70s, Saigas can be turned into AK-74M/100s, and Veprs into RPKs. Outside of that narrow range of options, what can you do?
>>
>>33543724
Saiga is great, nobody disputes this. Good for you that you like them so much you built 5 of the same rifle.
Your pickings are slim though, if you want to build, say, a Hungarian underfolder. There's some shitty companies that churn out shitty receivers, some that churn out equally shitty flats, then there's Nodak, that has built a well earned reputation of quality. Between a parts kit, new barrel, and NDS receiver, your price is still at or near your $500 Saiga (before it's even converted), and you have a military quality rifle.

>rough edges
You've never handled a NDS receiver. You make it abundantly clear. Try one for your next build, assuming you can get more involved than slapping parts onto Saigas to convert them.

Also,
>$500 Saigas in NY
Where? I'd love to get another for that price.
