Hey /k/ommandos, /pol/tard here. I'm looking to purchase a firearm for CC in a suburb of a major city with rather lax firearm restrictions. What would your recommendations be? I have a $2,500 budget.
>>
>>33538728
That's a pretty broad question, man. Do you want to go as small as possible? Are you experienced with firearms? Do you want something easy to use or something that requires a little more of a commitment? I personally carry a charter arms bulldog in .44 special and have no problem recommending it to anyone. On the plus side it's relatively light for the power of the cartridge, revolvers don't jam, and a cylinder can never fail to feed. On the negative, revolvers will never have the capacity of even the smallest subcompact polymer auto, it's heavy for the number of rounds held, and revolvers (arguably) aren't as quick to reload as automatics.

I've been shooting since I was 6 with my brothers and sisters learning from my dad and uncles, so I'm not completely gun illiterate. I just haven't had the time in a while to think about guns seriously. I'm looking for something that can shoot a .45 ACP preferably, possibly a 1911 (if so what maker would be best), and anything less than 45 oz.
>>33539139

A Deagle is a bit beyond my needs.
Also fug

A little over budget, but I'm sure you understand.
>>
>>33538728
also OP I would recommend something with a manual safety since you are new to firearms. lots of people will recommend glocks or other guns with trigger """safeties""" but in my personal view i do not think those are good for new shooters who will still be learning fundamentals
also 2500 can get you the whole playing field if you want a rifle scattergat and pistol
if you just want a pistol for personal protection 2500 will get you anything you want even>>33539139
if you want something that will really make your inner Nazi shine you don't NEED to get a Luger.
Mauser, FN, CZ, Saur & Sohn, Walther, etc all made guns for the Reich if you want something Nazi stamped
>>
>>33539224
1911s are overrated and sort of require concentration at all times to carry safely. also .45 is not the weight, it's the diameter of the bullet in inches.
>>
>>33539237
I'll see if I can make it work, thanks for the suggestion. That's Czech I believe, right?
>>33539245
I'm not 'new' but I have been out of the loop for a while. I will definitely be retraining though.
>>33539255
I know the meanings. What would you recommend over a 1911?
>>
>>33539279
if you like the physique and function of a 1911 I would recommend a Hi Power. they range anywhere from 4-500 dollars for a milsurp and 800 for a Browning brand, you can spend up to 2 grand if you want one that's Nazi marked.
>>
>>33539279
what state do you live in? do you know your state laws?
>>
>>33539224
If you're set on a 1911 style pistol for everyday concealed carry, I'd recommend like the Dan Wesson guardian, a bobtail (rounded grip to minimize printing) commander (shortened slide and frame) in .45acp. I own one, and while it's not my thing, it is a pretty nice little weapon.

>$2500 CC budget

Shit. Carry a snubbed S&W 500 and a M&P shield. You have a boomstick CC and a tactical CC
>>
>>33539323
No worries. I found this in my bookmarks as well. It's from a couple-few years ago, but honestly, how much does the 1911 market change?

https://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=351324

There's also the so-called 2011, which is a polymer framed 1911. A guy in my gun club has an sti coastal carry(?) that he swears by. Again, not my thing, but it does shoot nicely.

Anon, I'm not looking to blow a 8 mile hole through a guy, damn. How would a M&P hold up to a 1911?
>>33539378
I've tried the polymer pill, it's not for me. If it ain't metal, it ain't right.

it's horrible. and I did for a day. its also polymer framed.

What about a SIG p228 or -9? They're relatively compact metal frame autos in either 9mm para (p228) or .40 and .357 sig (p229). Both have higher capacity mags than the 1911, and also offer double action/single action instead of just single action. There's also the full sized, .45acp/10mm p220. I carried a p228 in the service and have no complaints. They're not quite as smooth as a good 1911, nor do they point as well, but the weight to round ratio is much better.

Where is /k/ on the 9mm vs .45 ACP debate?

See I'm thinking that .45 is better because you would use less ammo to stop a threat so you'd be saving money and reducing the amount of time an attacker has to harm you.

I hope you live somewhere cold as tits.

If not, consider a 9mm or .380. All memes aside, both are perfectly good calibers and have a variety of compact, easy to conceal handguns available in them.
>>
>>33539574
Everyone knows 10mm auto is better than both

If God needed a firearm, it would be chambered in 10mm. Obviously he doesn't, so the debate rages on.

Y'know, for $2500 he could absolutely find a refurbished shooter grade P08 and make sure the springs are all to spec.

We don't even know his politics for sure, there's all kinds of fuckfaces there.

>>33539224
Wilson Combat.

>>33539255
He means he wants a .45 that weighs 45 ounces or less.
>>
>>33539641
That only matters if you're in combat. In a normal, civilized western country, most armed confrontations are at twenty feet or less and over in seconds. More than anything else you want a weapon that you're comfortable with and can easily and accurately magdump at a moment's notice. Caliber (within reason) and reloads are entirely secondary to that. Unless you're in law enforcement, security, or a high risk occupation like jewelry. Honestly, we tend to forget that people have for years killed each other quite handily with everything from .22 short to .500 s&w.

>.45
Smith & Wesson 4566? You'd have to find one used though, and it may be heavier than you'd like, not sure.
>>
>>33539797
Anything under or around 3 pounds is fine. I'll check out the 4566 though.
>>
>>33539791
Yeah, I'm just pointing out that caliber really isn't that important in an urban situation. Just twenty-odd years ago you could happily carry something like a Beretta 70 s (a fine weapon) in .380 and never consider yourself under armed. The only thing that's changed since then is that we've discovered memes.
>>
>>33539641
Statistically there's really quite little difference between 9mm and .45 if you compare the same style of defensive loadings.

Both can do the same job, but both recoil sort of differently, so ultimately you should pick what gun you feel comfortable with.

Capacity is nice and all, but realistically, pretty much no defensive shootings exceed 2 fired shots, if even 1, and that's if you even get to that point because if you pull out a gun, whoever was just gonna fuck with you is gonna do a 360 and moonwalk away, 99999 times out of 100000.
>>
>>33538728
Sig sauer p226 would not be that bad with that kind of budget

>recoil

That's why I prefer .45. It feels more slow and back than sharp and snappy to me.
>>
>>33539860
Yeah, so you're better fit to shoot a gun like that, nothing wrong with that.

As long as you can use and control your gun, as long as it's .380ACP tier power or higher, and as long as you have at least 5 shots to work with, and as long as the weapon is functionally reliable, it's adequate.

Anything after this starts to come down a lot to taste and just stick with what you like.
