I've always liked browning designs. What do you tards think? Good deal?

I think you should keep your pistol. Just give them a few hundred or whatever for the rifle.

It's a neat rifle, but Rossi is literally worse than Taurus, so I would inspect closely.

This one was imported by Interarms, which means that It was made before Cerberus took over Rossi.

Where they still shit back in the 90s?

I happen to drive 5 minutes across state lines to shoot at my local range. If I Form 1 my Zenith Z-5RS, will I need to continuously file transport papers to take it to the range, or is there a single form I can file with the BATFE, so I don't have to deal with that BS once a month?

Like, something that will let me take a single SBR from one place regularly to and from a specific location across state lines?

For under 400? You're not going to find much old stuff packaged with a scope besides bastardized Mosins.

If the scope isn't a necessity, the Yugo M48s are good Mauser clones chambered in 8mm. I've also seen Winchester Model 70s in good condition with classy wood furniture for $400, and they're already tapped for a scope.
>>
>>33533758

I know a guy who took it just after it became LTC and not CHL. He said it was super easy and several people in the class in him were kinda retarded but did fine under instruction

That being said, if you've only fired a handgun once I'd go to a range and rent one and put a few boxes through it between now and your course, just to be a little more familiar.

I've got a CZ99, the predecessor to the CZ999. It's a very smooth action, bretty nice double action trigger, quite good single action trigger and has pretty light recoil for an aluminum frame 9mm. The trigger is nothing like a P226 because while the slide resembles a P226, the frame is much more closely copied from the Walther P88.

Magazines are not compatible with anything else as far as I know, so you'll have to find CZ999 magazines. But the mags should be pretty cheap, last time I saw a batch on AIM they were about $15 each.

They're well built, as long as you're not paying more than $350-400, there's no reason not to get one.

Please excuse the horrendous keycaps in this old pic, they have been changed.

>>33537597
Yeah, just stretch them on sidewards, they are unhurt and can be turned around normally later without ill effect, but they will have creases for a little while. People do it because it's easier to secure them in shingles, and also because it's easier to grab than sliding your finger inside the loop. Try it to see
>>
>>33542966
Yeah, but you can't mount a shattered skull.

It'll be fine for meat, but people generally prefer heart shots and what not to keep the head and hide intact.

mmm, sorry to hear that, they're pretty affordable in my area IIRC. frankly im not familiar enough to offer advice on the BPS or 120. i've a bit of passing familiarity withe the 500 serious and they're pretty good guns. not the smoothest or nicest but tend to be very reliable and get the job done. not to mention they have a lot of after market support and are usually pretty easy to work on. FWIW if i was gonna drop 450 on a 500 id give serious thought to dropping an extra 100 for the 590(metal trigger group instead of plastic or some such). although desu thats just because i like nice things, i've never hear of any issues with the base models that the 590 corrects.

>>
>>33543971
More gas is forced out the front end at a higher pressure, creating a larger pressure explosion = higher strength soundwaves. The longer your barrel, the longer the gas pressure acts on the bullet and the less energy you release at the muzzle as sound.

Suppressors basically work by obfuscating the path of that gas pressure and making it take longer for it to escape and lose energy.

No bayonet, but most of the numbers match, and what I saw of the bore looked fine.

I plan to go back and give it a more thorough look, but is it a good deal?

Where can I actually learn about firearms? Wikipedia is either wrong or anemic.

(If you would like to defend wikipedia's accuracy, I would like to direct you to the direct impingement section, the accompanying .gif, and the inevitable comparison to the AR-15. The comments on that section are also worth reading)

Anyway, specifically I would like to learn about the various lockups that handguns use, and the advantages and disadvantages of titling-barrel and in-line (sliding?) barrels. I've never found it difficult to find information or documentation for anything other than this, but shoving this into google returns nothing substantial, and I can't find any good books written on the subject.

Forgotten Weapons is good, but, by definition, forgotten. If I want to learn exactly how a USP 45 works it doesn't really help me.

World of Guns looks fairly interesting, how much actual information is given? Any inaccuracies?
It also has the issue of being "free" with a fuckhuge amount of DLC that I will presumably want. I guess I could just pirate all of it but that isn't really ideal.

I'd also have to actually install steam
>>
OP here, from what I've heard these pre-Cerberus Rossi rifles aren't half bad. And the one Im considering buying has an octagonal barrel to boot. I see them going for around 500.

>>
>>33546647
Not that guy, but I've got it, and it's pretty great. I haven't played it in a while though. You start with a field strip, then do a full disassembly, as in every nut and bolt. Then you can do x-ray, and fire the gun, and slow it down to watch all the moving parts in motion. Honestly, it's the next best thing to actually having a physical firearm to take apart yourself. They update once a month with a new gun or two, and they got a decent variety. The only drawback is that the guns are in a progression tree, and if there's one you really want that's behind several guns you couldn't care about, it's a test of patience to not spend money so you don't have to go through five just to learn about the one gun you want.

They do have factual information about the guns, but it's pretty lackluster. There isn't a whole lot of history about their guns, and nothing about the development history beyond who designed it, and the general role it served, and I've caught some weird statements, like the Lee Enfield's effective range being 3000 meters. So, that portion of the game has its problems.

alright so got a makarov that wasnt doing this before. When I pull the trigger all the way back to the frame, it wont fire/hammer wont strike until i release it just a little. Like just a millimeter less pressure and the hammer falls

When I take the slide off it works just fine, wtf happened. this thing is practically brand new

TO clarify, this is just in double action, it works fine single action, but in DA, it just wont let the hammer fall until I release the trigger a hair

Anywhere public with regular traffic where you can park and possibly transact under video surveillance are good.
It's always preferable to bring a friend and have them wait in the vehicle if you can, someone who can get a good vehicle and personal description.

>unrelated question for IL /k/ommandos:
In the coming weeks I may need to deliver a vehicle cross country and will be returning via air, possibly from Illinois. Fortunately upon reviewing an updated CCW reciprocity map my planned route now takes me only through states that recognize my permit with the exception of my destination: Illinois.
Obviously I'll need to unload and stow before entering the state, but will not having a FOID screw me if I need to depart from an Illinois airport?
A FOID is only for residents to perform transactions in state correct?
Is it necessary for legal possession if I am only going to be in state long enough to make delivery and wait for my flight to depart (potentially as much as a few days)?
Only the city of Chicago/its county had a handgun ban and it has since been struck down correct?

The (right handed) rifles and ammunition are very common. Walmart always has at least 3 different varieties starting at ~$14 a box and going up, it's readily available online, and is somewhat panic-resistant. Just be aware that NOBODY makes "plinking" ammo for it, you just have varying qualities of softpoint hunting ammo with a smattering of high-end varmint loads and 1 or 2 factory match loads.

Odds are you'd have to buy a leftie Howa online or have your LGS order it, although I have found 1 at Academy (though it wasn't the lightning). Lefty guns in general are scarce, although the Savage's are the most common by a large margin and pretty much every "large" firearms retailer will have at least 1.
>>
>>33556305
The subs probably are.

.22 short would be dependent on the load, you have the subsonic 40gr and the supersonic 20gr options. I would not risk it as even the subs run at fairly high pressure compared to a sub .22lr due to the halved case volume.

>>
>>33558040
That's an 11mm dovetail, common on .22's (including current production) and air rifles, The rings are sometimes marketed as airgun or rimfire or "tip-off" rings. Most LGS's will have some. Traditions makes a set that's around $9 and they're okay.
>>
Am I supposed to close my left eye when shooting with iron sights or with a scope?
>>
>>33561152
Neither, from what I've read/seen/learned. The reasoning varies, but if you don't have cross dominance, you keeping both eyes open allows you to simultaneously focus on the target and be aware of the environment immediately around the target and yourself. Closing an eye with a scope can lead to tunnel vision (which is literally the point of a scope) and closing an eye with irons can fuck with your sight picture.

Either way, closing an eye always makes my vision a bit blurry when I open it back up after closing the eye for any length of time.
>>
>>33561269
one more question, how do i make sure the recoil from the rifle isn't going to make the scope come back and hit me in the head? is there a certain distance from the scope you should always keep your head or something?

Uh...don't get THAT close?

Scopes usually have long eye relief. That way, you don't get bitten by the scope.

Try this:
>take your scope or scoped rifle
>point in safe direction and MAKE SURE it's unloaded
>look through scope, both eyes open
>notice how much sight picture you have
>see if there's any black around it
>if there's a lot of black, and you're able to see the whole picture, you're too close
>pull back until you maximize sight picture and minimize black surrounding picture
>it should seem like you're seeing just one big zoom function, pic related
>if you're seeing distortions, get closer

This is where length of pull and other shit starts making a difference. A gun that is perfectly set up for you will not always work the exact same for someone with a taller/shorter frame and length of pull.

Sorry for the ramble response, but I hope this explains a bit.
>>
>>33561533
thanks i'll try that. i've never been hit by the scope so far but i've seen a lot of people on youtube get hit by it so now i'm a little paranoid about it every time i pull the trigger on a high caliber rifle

Are there ANY online ammo vendors that still ship to MA?

It's not illegal but our AG is a bully.
>>
>>33561571
As long as your eye is not right next to the scope and the stock is pressed firmly against your shoulder, it's not physically possible to get hit.

How does headspace work on revolvers ?
What effects it ?
Is it safe to just torque in a new barrel ( if you managed to not bend the frame ) ?

is there a certain kind of ammo you should use with a very short sbr to maximize performance?
>>
>>33561571
as long as you have the stock firmly in your shoulder pocket and your cheek welded at the correct eye relief for the scope (what the previous poster was describing), you should be okay.

>>33565167
ammo that achieves as much of its powder burn as possible in the shorter time allotted and which performs well below its maximum possible velocity. these are two of the reasons 7.62x39 and 300blk are generally considered superior cartridges for SBRs over 5.56 or 5.45. there is a point at which you may as well step down to high pressure pistol loadings however.
>>
>>33564774
Barrel has absolutely nothing to do with headspacing on revolvers.
Cylinder and recoil shield are the two main parts

Check out an older Dan Wesson revolver. Should pique your interest.

As long as you follow manufacturer specifications and don't mind violating your warranty

What is a good holster for an M&P 9? Ideally, I would like to conceal carry it, so an IWB would be preferred.

Does the battle zero on a standard SKS leaf sight mean that I can hit a torso-sized target up to 300m? The 100m, 200m, and 300m settings should just make it more accurate compared to the battle zero if I know exactly what distance I'm shooting right?

Recently got a Remington 597 .22 rifle.

I was just browsing around for parts and came across this. I know ProMag makes a couple of other "conversion" kits for other rifles like the Mosin and such.

Has any of you ever bought any of these kits from ProMag? are they shit?

Also my rifle doesnt have the hole on the top of the barrel for the kit's rail. what the shit

Can a Tomahawk be used as an effective anti ship missile?

>how easy is it to pass the TX LTC test?
Easy as fuck. At the end, you take a multiple choice quiz. They don't even grade it or look at it.

In the shooting portion you only need to hit inside the target half of the shots. There were women at mine who had no idea what they were doing but still passed.
>>
>>33567974
Yes many ranges will. But often you europoors only visit NYC and LA. It will be more difficult to find a range that will let you in those two cities. Las Vegas is your best bet at getting to shoot a lot of different weapons with an instructor.
