Could anyone with a good of knowledge Mauser rifles please help me, I have recently noticed that of the front barrel band of my k98 is missing the first number of its serial number, mistake in production? Anyone know?

I've seen this on any number of surp guns. If the last 4-5 digits match the receiver, it's still matching numbers. They had to shorten up serial numbers on small parts in many cases, in your case, they prolly just banged it out in a hurry.

Wait, are you the Anon with the Portuguese-contract m/941 (Kar.98k)?
>>33532982
yes

thank god i hope

>yes
I wondered, because in 1941 Mauser were were still using 4-digit serial numbers with one-or-two-letter block suffixes.
How many other parts on your rifle have all 5 digits of the serial number?

the bold and reciever, bolt release -5
oh the rear sight also has -4

The other Portuguese m/941 I've seen have 5 digits on the bolt handle, bolt shroud, and stock, and 4 digits on everything else ( I can't remember if the triggerguard had 4 digits or 5).
Your barrel band is fine.
