I am afraid that it is a personal decision of freewill to believe in a sort of religion.

Unless it is a decision against yourself if you were brought up in a family of a strict following to a certain religion, that did not allow you to explore your own religious path.

When you give something power and organisation, it will always corrupt. This is not just applied to religions like Christianity with paedophile priests and Muslims that execute non believers, but even back to the roman times with roman deities.

Religion hundreds of years ago and further back, would explain what science could not, due to the lack of development, technology and research. What people once thought was Zeus throwing lightning from the sky is considered natural weather today. When god plagued the Egyptians to free the Jews, there was no explanation of the cause, as there was no research at the time. Most organised religions persecuted and executed Giordano Bruno and many others (https://www.wired.com/2012/06/famous-persecuted-scientists/) because of their 'heretical' beliefs. Back in the day, the church was your doctor, your therapist, and your friend. But today there is no service that science can already provide. Saying 'we don't know what happens after you die' is one of the last arguments as it quite literally cannot be proven. And yes, there are scientists that believe in god, but given time science can discover more things about the universe and life than religion ever will.

If I would choose a religion to follow, it would be the one that has caused the least conflicts in life, such as Buddhism, Taoism or Hinduism. Humans may die in an apocalyptic event and we will become extinct never knowing the secrets of the universe, but at least in the 21st century, it was not God that gave us our technology or found new ways to provide water for Africans, it was our own ingenuity.

Religion is simply a placebo for people that cannot accept they they will cease to exist.
