Hey guys.
I started a thread last Saturday about my stubborn Model 10 that wouldn't takedown. I got a lot of good advice: spray it with WD-40, soak it in PB Blaster, heat the receiver extension, give it a gentle tap with a rubber mallet, etc.
I tried all of that and this motherfucker is still one solid piece.
What am I doing wrong?
... it's not a non-takedown model, is it?

I should add, it soaked in PB Blaster for about 9 hours. Sat in WD40 for a couple days.
I've tried tapping it on the receiver extension a couple times now, pretty firmly but not too hard, and it hasn't budged a millimeter. I used the hair drier for a good while and got it nice and hot ( I think some of the PB Blaster might have been sparking a bit).

It looks like this screw is butting directly against the receiver extension. I think someone told me it shouldn't be an issue in the last thread, but I'm really starting to think it's part of the problem.
Fuckin' never mind.
I'll post more later tonight if anyone cares.

Go for it Anon
>>33523161
YOU DID IT!!!!!I was the anon who was talking to you about it last thread
>>33523161
Was there much gunk in the threads?
>>33523161
good job
you must have been frustrated beyond end

This comes next. I had to leave for my fiance's, so I threw the two halves in a duffel bag. She's working all night, so I'll have time to start stripping this nasty old girl down.
>>33523295
Fuck yeah man! I just had to let it sit for a while after getting it nice and hot, then the rubber mallet did the trick. Thanks for tuning in for this week's installment.
>>33523430
Not as much as I expected, to be honest. I'll post some pictures in a bit.
>>33523458
It was pretty maddening, but I'm glad I didn't totally lose my shit and break it. I was getting close.
So I also took the stock off for the first time tonight. Any doubts I had about it being homemade were definitely erased. I've never seen a stock bolt set up like this.
>>33524783
Quite the setup, no?
Although in all fairness, the stock actually feels pretty damn solid. I'm leaning more towards reshaping it then buying a new one.
>>33524797
Apologies for the lack of rotation in these pictures. For some reason they're all fucked up.
Here's some intricate turn of the century Remington voodoo.
Disassembly is going to be a bit of a bitch, I'm thinking.

>>33524812
Thats some mighty powerful Remington trickery
>>33524843
Indeed it is.
I'm pretty excited to finally have a takedown shotgun.
>>33524976
>>33522459
Next time, use Kroil. Whoever told to to use wd40 is retarded.
>>33524992
Thanks for the heads up.
What does Kroil do differently?
Here's the receiver threads.
>>33525034
And the barrel threads
>>33525049
Time to get started on disassembly.
>>33525034
>>33525049
>>33525211
Quick note for you incase you didn't know. the gun needs to be decocked before you can put the barrel back on the receiver or else you can possibly break the extractor.
>>33525276
You just saved my ass, no joke. Thanks a ton dude.
The front end is all apart. Finally got that fucking magazine plug out!
>>33525211
Looks good anon. I cleaned my pops old long Tom sears model browning a month or so ago. Such a cool shotgun.
>>33525034
Kroil is a penetrating oil. It seeps into cracks and crevices really nicely and it's specifically made for loosening up old stubborn rusted shit/old screws and whatnot. Plus it smells nice.
Wd40 is for water displacement. It's not really meant for anything else. It is a penetrating oil but it doesn't work as well. It also gums up and attracts dirt and debris
>>33525276
So I'm trying to put the front end back on, and even though I've dropped the bolt back into the receiver it won't lock into place. Stops after about a quarter turn.
Any ideas?
