Maybe my sarcasm was too blunt.

Supressors get hot, but no it wouldnt be glowing.

As for mac 10 supressors being meant to be held its more of a short duration arrangement. Probably not more that a few magazines before it got too hot to hold.

The MAC series wasnt meant for sustained firefights so much as for quick dirty suprises before running off.

Do prop guns just stay in a vault somewhere? Just to be used at random for other movies,tv shows?
Like when they had the Robocop's gun in Sin City.

It's a non-gun, basically a flashpaper gun used for when they can't use blanks, i.e. being fired close to an actor.

Yes, they're owned by companies who let you hire their guns (under the supervision of their qualified armorers).

I guess they keep some of the more iconic ones (probably partially because of sequel possibilities), but it's not unusual for them to just eventually take them apart or restore them to normal.
I know pretty much all of the guns used in the first Star Wars were either restored or trashed. It was filmed in the UK, and at the time it wasn't unusual for movie armorer companies to send their surplus guns in at buybacks to make space or save on cost, it's believed that's what happened to a whole lot of them, including Han Solo's blaster.

>>33515566
I'm almost certain the Auto9 was added on purpose by the director.
Many will just see a big gun, but fans of Robocop will be all "Wait, what? Heeeey!"

>>

I can only assume Dr. Krieger mounted a setup with stocks in both the extended and collapsed positions to create some kind of Schroedinger's Foldinger stock that is both collapsed and extended at the same time.
>>
>>33517235
It does but I believe they actually mention that in the show.

>>
>>33517246
They do. Archer mentions how he doesn't want Krieger doing anymore retarded gun mods. Then it cuts to Krieger doing retarded gun mods while coked out listening to Rush. But they don't specifically mention the 2nd stock. So >>33517259 is probably more right. But still, it's been established that Krieger likes dumb gun mods.

I read somewhere Sam Elliott used his own rifle in Thank You For Smoking.

Tom Selleck owns two of the three the Sharps .45-110 rifles from Quigley Down Under.

"After the filming concluded, Selleck kept all three rifles, and had two of them reconditioned by Shiloh Rifle Co. In 2006 Selleck donated one of the rifles used in filming to the NRA for a fundraising raffle. In March 2008 that rifle was sold for $69,000 through the James D. Julia auction house."

"Charlton Heston identified several famous Hollywood people who own guns, including Steven Spielberg who owns one of the finest gun collections in California, but never refers to it, and never shoots publicly. Spielberg, who produced the all-time blockbuster film The Lost Word – Jurassic Park, has been photographed shooting a shotgun at a Trap and Sporting Clays range in California, but asked the photographer not to release his picture to the media. “Can you imagine the most famous filmmaker in town worried about his reputation?” Heston says, chuckling."

There are a few major prop houses that deal in firearms, they will have some on hand to rent, especially if it's something that had to be mass produced, like a bunch of space marine rifles. The rubber version of the Tranq Gun from Jurassic Park Lost World literally sits in a trash can full of other guns at Universal Studios, you can rent it for like $125 a week.

Since firearms are a thing most studios don't want to deal with for legal purposes, a lot of time custom guns will be purchased by the prop master or armorer and they will legally be his when the show is over. There are like 3-5 MAJOR individuals in the industry who own most of the cool guns you've seen in movies. I've been in a few of their lock-ups, you're talking gun vaults that are 40 feet long and just lined with all sorts of wet dream material.

>>33517637
Technically would be fine, probably happens mostly on smaller budgeted movies, but the gun would have to be handed over to the property department who would maintain control of it during filming.

>>33525316

>Do prop guns just stay in a vault somewhere?
Basically yes. They are owned by a prop company which rents them to production companies/what have you. This includes blank firing guns, replicas, non-guns, etc.

For example, the Delta's M4s from Black Hawk Down are believed to have ended up in Blood Diamond iirc.
>>
>>33535724
Yeah, he really got
... the short end of that stick.
>>
>>33534540
All of the rules regarding firearm use are generally governed by union contracts or fire marshals. If you're just making a small movie, non-union, and the fire marshal isn't around, odds are no one would ever care.

However on union shows, or shows with fire marshals around, the person designated to handle the firearms should have an Entertainment Firearms Permit.

You can use your guns in the movie, but there should be a designated crew member (either armorer or prop master) who is in charge of them.
>>
>>33514199
It's probably a paper flash gun used for shots where the gun needs to look like it's firing but the shooter is pointing it at another actor at close range.

TPB arguably has much more accurate shootout scenes than anything from The Walking Dead. You can see Bubbles lose control of his Uzi where Carl can treat a full auto FAL like an airsoft gun in the season finale.

TBP wins with gun usage. They're actually firing blanks (no budget for CGI) and the guns act like they would (they run out of ammo and the slides move).

The characters are idiots with them, but that's pretty realistic too. They don't just pick up a gun and suddenly they become a master sharpshooter.
