Are firearms designed with aesthetics in mind, or is looking cool a side-effect?
>>33511962
Well glocks were certainly not devised with aesthetics in mind. But Lugers are damn sexy; it's hard to believe that just 'happened.'
>>33511962
Function is beautiful on its own if you really give a damn about weapons.
>>33511962
Aesthetics is part of all design. Some guns just emphasize it more than others, and some just fail it completely.
>>33511962
It depends.
Usually military weapons are just designed to be functional and any cool look is just coincidence.
Some guns are designed with aesthetics in mind.
>>33511962
Some weapons are likely designed with aesthetic in mind. After all, a handsome, sexy gun is more intimidating than an ugly brick.
>>33511962
Preferences in firearms are so subjective that its hard to say honestly.
I mean personally I drool over certain AK's, especially afghan era 74's or the Dragunov MA but a bunch of trips in arg only see "inaccurate slavshit" when they look at any AK. Id honestly probably find any sort of AK aesthetic simply because they are unobtainium or rare. I honestly doubt firearms are designed with aesthetics in mind at least in a broad sense

Sometimes they are.
The Tavor's shape was sketched out by a concept artist on a napkin before they even had an idea about how it would work.
>>33512056
>mfw i think the tavor is uggo but this is a qt3.14.
Why couldnt we have had this?
>>33512052
Guns are designed to sell. Big and bulky for those who gets off on that, butt ugly and functional for those who want a impersonal 'tool', oldfashioned or minimalistic for those market niches. There re probably a thousand ways to design a gun including a barrel at the bottom, but it wouldn't sell.
>>33511986
Take a look at the Borchardt it sprung out from.
adams revolver.
>>33512200
and the one and only webley revolving pistol caliber revolving carbine.
>>33512110
The charging handle in the sketch is in a really bad spot, so it makes sense they moved it forward.
I can agree with the stock, though. The final Tavor's jagged shaped stock is probably the sole reason for its ugliness.
>>33511962
Just like in nature, things that survive adhere to the adage 'form follows function'.
Some weapons don't follow that line of logic, but most of those die off. Everything has exceptions of course but they're far from the rule.
>>33512056
we Halo now
Efficiency and functionality are aesthetic in their own right
>>33512290
>halo 4 DMR
leave
>>33511962
they used to be, but now its "how simple can we make this for ease of use and cheap production"
while also stamping WARNING, DONT POINT AT FACE IF THERE ARE BULLETS IN IT on the side

>Expecting nice things from Jews.
I think it's kinda like cars. You design them with performance in mind, but you look at it and say "how can I make this look really good while not sacrificing performance?
That's probably how we ended up with a lot of the beautiful guns we have. Because when you look at things that were designed as last-ditch shit and stuff like that, you can clearly tell that they were designed with absolutely no thought given to how they look, and the result is a very "ugly" gun like an AK, or one of those Third Reich last-ditch machine guns that gave to Volkssturm, etc (even though I happen to think all guns are beautiful in their own way)
>>33512213
Didn't Uberti make something similar to that?
>>33512002
>hi-point is an attractive firearm
Whatever, dude.
>>33513035
is...
is it bad i think glocks look sexy?
they looked really cool in Half Life and even after shooting one IRL I still really like the way they look and feel in the hand.
>>33512191
The Borchardt makes me diamonds every time.
>>33513844
gen 2 glocks were the best. No finger grooves and IMO the best finish
im hoping gen 5 goes back to this
