I have an m&p40 anon, it's just fine. Aimsurplus had a cheap deal on them, you can find first gens for 3-400 in stores, just do some poking around.

i would also say police trade ins. 40s are very abundant and cheap, mainly bc they arent popular. if these same guns were in 9mm or 45, theyd be sold out real fast

I've fired my buddy's M&P .40 a few times and I have to say I don't really care for it.
If I were to buy a .40 I'd rather have a full sized pistol.

Get the M&P40c. You can use the full size magazines with the x collar if you want for hd. Or for cc you can use the 10 rd mags. And if you want to get crazy you can convert it to 9mm by simply swapping the barrel/mags.

The SR40 or C for concealed. The M&P is one of the cheapest with the trade-ins but they don't handle recoil for shit. The MP40C will run around the same price as the SR but have better sights unless you get a Performance Center Price Gouge Special. A step up from that is either a CZ P07 or a Beretta PX4/96 but most of the "good" 40's are going to be pricey like the USP.
