We lost credibility: US doubted the reports "reliable" source of strikes in Syria,

the US and its allies in the coalition operating in Syria, until recently quite serious about the reports of the Syrian Center for Monitoring the observance of human rights. He was considered a reliable source on the situation in the republic. In particular, as immutable facts perceived by the application group of civilian casualties as a result of operations of VKS Russia and government aircraft. Trust Washington to supply deteriorated after the reported death of civilians under the blows of a coalition.

Actually no. /pol/ didn't really give a shit unsurprisingly since /pol/ and /mlp/ have had some fun under the sheets more then a few times before, there's tons of furry/pony crossboarders which come into /pol/ and beyond that, most people how browse /pol/ don't give a shit about kneejerk shit like furry/pone and see it as a benefit, since the board is currently under a heavy shitposting/shill campaign. All /mlp/ did is just make the place actually more usable for a day, you had legitimate discussions and /mlp/'s natural trait to drive shitters and newfags away. If anything /mlp/ would probably turn /pol/ from a overwhelmed shitstorm of all kinds of websites coming in to spill their shit opinions and form it into more of a hugbox along the lines of /mlp/

IS drones dropping grenades on a SDF barge going across the lake. I hate to say the sight of these drones over a lake dropping small munitions on boats is slightly amusing. I know it isn't funny for those who could have been killed in these attacks.

Meanwhile Tabqa is almost under siege. All IS counter attacks on Tabqa airbase have failed.

/mlp/ would "dominate" any board it was merged with. Think about how hard you stop talking about guns and start talking about how much you hate ponies if /mlp/ was made to immigrate here. It's nothing special to say that /mlp/ would be a blight to any forum where it wasn't heavy restricted and contained. /pol/'s ability to redpill is not something to be underestimated, however. I'm betting more than a few /mlp/ browsers have become neo nazis after the merge.

Even pro rebel sources have been saying the same thing for a couple of days now "all is lost in northern Hama". The reason I doubt this is if the SAA wants real progress into Hama and even Idlib they have to shut down the northern Homs pocket first, Al Rastan and such.

I don't have much today but hopefully things will pick up tomorrow. Soran is supposedly being lost in Hama and heavy fighting in Qabon/eastern Ghouta ongoing plus SDF around Tabaqa.

Maybe if you play strictly by the book. But people leave out shit they don't care about from ancient history.

Rebel loss in Hama battles was obvious, saw that coming miles away. They are trapped in their own rebel mindset and position. They NEED to unify. They NEEDED to unify 5 years ago. Too little way too late. Also the fact that outside actors purposely stiffled some attempts at unification, cause they didn't want al Qaeda leading.

You basically had 3 rebel groups doing the Hama offensive, and not coordinating past the initial offensive. That alone was the death sentence. Then HTS decided they were just gonna retreat cause it was understandably hopeless, but they did it in a "hah fuck you" kind of way on the way out.

Did i say unification? Unification.

I get the feeling mods there want it that way because of their obsession with it not being reddit. I mean, I hate reddit, too, but making /pol/ as much of an echochamber, just with a much larger portion of shitposting, is not a goal I would personally strive for.
Even with that, /pol/ is better than most sites. People will shout you down, but it's rare that you get banned in any way that matters for saying a political view, and there's not a built-in censoring system.

I root for the kurds. Peshmerga, YPG, YPJ and SDF. Not because every kurd is a flawless warrior or because the kurds are a better people than others. But they have generally - again, not angelic - been behaving decently and the things they want are reasonable.

It also help that they actually have been fighting for that freedom they want.

>>33529932
Russia has only two allies, it's army and it's navy. Do note that intervention didn't happen until it was becoming clear that Assad is going to lose. And now he's completely dependent from them. Also this could be to get some leverage on US too, they can't resolve the situation without Russia now. Lastly, I don't think Putin cares about ISIS, it's more about saving Assad because he has his uses. The whole jihadi bombing is just media stunt.
>>
>>33529765

As long as we agree that every last plane bombing by every last foreign force in Syria and Ira has had a strong media element to it.

Beside that, the Russkis have been supporting the Assad Sr and Jr regimes for the last what, 30 years. In exchange for keeping their own stronghold, of course. But there's been few alliances throughout the history of humanity that didn't have some practical military or economic value to all of those involved.

What's the most likely scenario here; that SAA with or without Russian approval carried out a chemical attack, or that it was a fasle flag operation by either the FSA or Al-Nusra?

I don't see how Assad could possibly benefit from this in any way whatsoever, the rebel fractions on the other hand have everything to gain by involving the west.

If it did turn out to be nerve gas than it's incredibility stupid to use at this time. If it's just chlorine than this kind of gas attack has become acceptable chemical weapon use in Syria.

Map is the Hama front today after HTS claims to have lead a counter attack in Maardas. They have been fighting over the town all day. Rebels are much closer to their original lines after losing most of what they captured to a vicious SAA counter attack.
>>
>>33531197
Loyalties and the chain of command are also at best loose enough/often non-existent that I wouldn't rule out it being some local commander getting pissed off and taking matters into his own hands either.
Of course I realise I sound a bit like an Assadfag making any possible excuse to divert potential blame from him, but when you look at the myriad local and regional forces fighting with what little of the SAA 'proper' there is, it's hard to see there being any sort of tight control over the majority of those forces whatsoever. And I'm sure there's no shortage of small fry unit commanders thinking no further than a few miles down the road, and not of how much more awkward they could make things for Assad on the global stage by doing something like this.
In the end I doubt it will be relevant in any way, a few media groups and NGOs will try to make noise for a few days, nobody will care because the vast majority of the population in the West stopped giving any slight fucks they may once have done about Syria long ago, and we'll literally never hear anything about it again from 2 weeks time onwards.
>>
>>33531197
To me it's most likely the Saaf dropped chlorine bombs and rebel propagandists decided to claim it was nerve gas. I don't know how a outside organization could test to see if it's really a nerve agent.

Syria is a hard place to like. Assad and his guys would be on the map as 'evil regime' by many comparisons. But compared with ISIS it is hard to suggest they should replace Assad. I find it easy to applaud the kurds but they have no right to rule the lands they aren't representing either.

There's still a worse alternative. Letting some UN asshats 'take control'. Not that anyone would let them.

Broken chain of command is my guess (if it is a legit gas attack) just like the original gas attack back in 2014.

There are a lot of near autonomous warlords fighting on behalf of the SAA who have access to all kinds of shit, wouldn't put it past those idiots to deploy chemical weapons.

>Russian approval.
Extremely unlikely.
Major powers like Russia want to keep the norms of non-use of effective CW agents simply because it makes their own interventions more effective and less risky. The last thing Russia wants is to have to worry about CW the next time it gets into a minor conflict it could otherwise stomp conventionally.

>False flag.
Very unlikely.
Trump has said he is not going to intervene in Syria and another CW attack is not going to change that. If they had access to the agents and the will to pull off a false flag op they would have done it when Obama was in office.

>Assad approved strike.
Unlikely but possible.
He may simply be testing the limits of Russian support and the new US line of non-intervention.

>Conventional strike hitting captured CW agents.
Unlikely but possible.
If the opposition did capture effective CW agents such as sarin there would be a lack of both methods and reason to use them. As such if such agents were captured (given how many other weapons have be seized certainly not out of the question) they very well may have simply been stored in a building which was hit by a conventional strike.

>Local commander or mistake.
Possible.
The Syrian military does not have a robust chain of command anymore and local commanders may have launched the attack without approval from Damascus. Alternatively it is possible that some new conscript simply loaded up the wrong bombs.

What a retarded analysis. It's painfully fake.

1. An AFP (al-Qaeda) reporter claims "the smell" hit him when he entered the hospital. He meant the gas smell. But Sarin does not smell at all.
https://twitter.com/AFPphoto/status/849289521892085760

The White Helmets "rescuers" worked without even basic protection. That pretty much excludes nerve agents like Sarin or they all would be sick or dead by now. The measures they took in the videos would not be helpful to any real victim.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2oE6YjYyH1c [Embed]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTszOjAZNtI [Embed]

A reporter from the opposition Orient News tweeted yesterday(!) that they would soon report on a gas attack in that place - "prediction"?!
https://twitter.com/WithinSyriaBlog/status/849240804556242944

The alleged "impact craters" shown on oppo TV of the "bombs" looked more like mortar craters and were in a widely open area. Where were the people when those "bombs" hit?
https://twitter.com/Gjoene/status/849276618711453697

The "doctor" who announced the attack first was jailed in UK for allegedly helping to kidnap journos in Syria. He was let go back to Syria (turned to work for MI-6?)
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/world/uk-doctor-key-iding-james-foley-killer-report-article-1.1913265

If Syria had gas would it not use it when militarily under pressure against the attacking enemy? Instead the army prefers to lose hundreds of soldiers?

Attack some civilians (why not AQ?) when it just won big in Hama and Damascus? Just days before new international talks come up? Just days after Trump admin said Assad leaving is not the priority no. 1?

Whatever the incident was, it was no real Sarin attack and very likely staged.

If you're liable to fall for hoaxes and fake news, I recommend migrating over to /x/.

A key source for the story of a chemical attack is Dr Shajul Islam, apparently in charge of the hospital in Khan Sheikhoun. Some commentators have noted that in the middle of a mass casualty incident he was more concerned with tweeting and making videos than with attending to patients.

A bit more digging reveals that Dr Shajul Islam, who qualified in London, was struck off the UK medical register in 2013 (http://www.bmj.com/content/352/bmj.i1831). He had been arrested on returning to the UK from Syria in 2012, and charged with kidnapping two journalists: John Cantlie, and Jeroen Oerlemans. However the trial collapsed when the two victims failed to appear as prosecution witnesses: Cantlie had been kidnapped again alongside James Foley. It's not clear what happened to Oerlemans. This didn't stop the General Medical Council, which is not bound by the same rules of evidence, from striking him off.

Posting a primitive map of areas of interest or strategic areas in Syria for various reason. I think the small SAA line leading to Aleppo is one of the most important in terms of game changing and the question marks are areas that could be important such as the new NFSA push in the desert by Daara and IS towns on the border of Iraq.

>I think the small SAA line leading to Aleppo is one of the most important in terms of game changing
That raises a question why we have only seen some half-assed attempts on seizing the highway by ISIS.
>>
>>33542501
ISIS had quite a few of serious attempts to sever the line there but that's possible only by taking and holding Khanaser (they manged to take but lost it during a counter-offensive). Also SAA can easily send reinforcements there and all attacks caught in the open are easy prey to air attacks, thats why offensives are possible only during bad weather

Some autonomous pro-SAA warlord baboons decided to take matters into their own hands because the chain of command has decayed from years of attrition and battles from multiple fronts, and the international community and even members of the Trump Administration are pinning the blame on the Assad government? No death statistics in Syria are accurate at all unfortunately.

This is because many Rebels killed will count themselves as civilians and many of the so called SAA are not even part of the Syrian Arab army but are foreign fighters

As for ISIS, you have people on Assads side calling the HTS ISIS so it muddles the statistics.
>>
>>33550732
Agree, I was wrong in my initial reaction that it was a chlorine attack but left the door open to being Sarin as one anon was quick to respond. We still don't know what chemical was used.

That's the great thing about this war, I have learned so much just following it. Here we are watching the effects of chemical weapons on live humans targets. This is insane.

I don't have a full review of todays action in Syria. I might pick it up tomorrow. Fighting has centered in Daara, Latakia, light in Hama and the outskirts of Tabqa city. Also a Iraqi military helicopter was shot down over Mosul. Regardless of me not diving into it tomorrow should be hot again. We might even see some night fighting erupt with some unsettled fronts today.

That's what I'm thinking too. If it was a airborne attack like they claim, the white hat "rescuers" wouldn't be running around with no NBC protection handling people exposed to Sarin since it'd still be lingering around in dangerous doses, not to mention it's also a contact agent.

Everything surrounding this is just to convenient and suspicious, coming days after Trump said he wouldn't seek to oust Assad with the same war mongering globalists like McCain leading the call for war. And it just doesn't make sense for Assad to do such an attack, they are on the offensive and winning in many areas and were on a positive track with the Trump administration, why would he fuck it all up with a chemical attack?
>>
>>33553042
>why would he fuck it all up with a chemical attack
m80, there's heavy possibilities that a) he didn't personally authorise this and that it was a simple fuck up on behalf of whoever was in charge of that air contingent (I'm fairly certain that only Regime forces have access to Sarin) and b) when have western governments reeaallly and truly given a shit? It's one more clump of dead people who can't vote and wont be heading to europe. Most states don't really care, and put on the 'muh human rights' thing as a performative gesture.

Also there were tons of videos and pictures of the while helmets hosing down the injured/being very careful to cut off clothing without touching it on twitter and floating about online.
>>
>>33553042

I have no knowledge of who The White Helmets side with, politically. Whoever that side is I take it as a given they are infiltrated.

However, a search for pics of them do not show any NBC gear. They have work clothes, as in jackets and pants as used in any workshop. Plus the helmets, and goggle and mouth dust covers and gloves. Their website allows donations for specific gear including gas masks but I have not seen a TWH in gas mask yet. Never mind NBC suits.

US NAVY SEALS WITH AIR SUPPORT DEPLOYED FROM HELICOPTERS IN DEIR EZZOR

A CONVOY OF ROAD VEHICLES WAS INTERDICTED

HEAVY FIRE REPORTED

RUMOURS IT WAS A PRESIDENTIAL SANCTIONED TARGETTING OF BAGHDADI

HIGH RANKING ISIS FIGURE KILLED IN RAID - WHITEHOUSE / PENTAGON STATEMENT POSSIBLE SOON

NAVY SEALS TEAM ALL CONFIRMED SAFE

What I have so far is a VERY high value target was under surveillance for some time. The target left a building and was in a jeep, without a large escort, trying to blend in to the surroundings.

Confidence was so high after long surveillance that a navy seals team was given the go-ahead to interdict the vehicle and apprehend/take down the occupants.

Two helicopters entered out of Kurdish territory and seals were deployed on the road and surrounded the vehicle. There was a very heavy firefight.

All occupants of the vehicle were killed. Daesh tried to respond by bringing in machine gun teams but they were too late. US special forces teams were on the ground about 28 minutes before exiting back to Kurdish territory by helicopter.

If it was chlorine maybe, but not sarin. It's not something you can easily make. Mind you rebels can't make 122 rockets, there is no fucking way they could make sarin. And there is no way it's from some old regime stockpile, not after 5 years.

Also everything indicates it wasn't Assads authorization but some local commander and that one of rebel big shots was in the area. Maybe someone wanted a promotion.
>>
>>33551024
The commander is always responsible. Also US has a good reason to scare Assad, especially if it was done by someone else under his command. If the use of chemical weapons is up to local commanders it's possible that same CW will end up in the hands of Hezbollah or some Iraq group that is not friendly to US.

Imagine if in a year there is a story of some Iraqi shia militia targeting US troops in Iraq with CW they got from Syria. It would be hell to pay politically.

Sarin is RELATIVELY easy to make. A single, well educated chemist could set up an operation if he just had the materials.
>And there is no way it's from some old regime stockpile, not after 5 years.
Sarin as a gas has that shelf life, but that's exactly why Sarin is stored as components, not as the prepared gas.
>Also everything indicates it wasn't Assads authorization but some local commander and that one of rebel big shots was in the area. Maybe someone wanted a promotion.
There's literally no evidence of it even being an SAA strike at this point. The SAA intentionally gassing some random fucks in the rear during a succesful operation makes no sense either. If anything, it was a jihadi stockpile that was hit, releasing whatever gas there was.

I really don't think us doing that is for the best in any sense of the word. If bombing and destabilizing did anything besides ruin lives, there wouldn't be so many countries turning away from the US. You know the saying, "With friends like these, who needs enemies"? We're the friend. Our foreign policy changes from year to year. We backstab a lot, to put it in a more honest way. I say the jews are behind this, and they just really want us to keep bombing their rivals, and keep us focused on war so we can't be the bastion of free market we want to be and dominate the world through the mutually benefitting hand of trade.

>'crisis' happens because whatever event in Syria
>President briefed on [insert situation here]!
Yes the President gets briefed on what happens around the world, this happens every day about all kinds of shit, as well as when notable events occur
>Pentagon will present options for invasion/bombing everything/whatever
Yes they will, along with several other of their preferred options. There will also be a plan for pretty much every other possible option from doing nothing all the way up to nuclear first strikes should anyone ask, that's pretty much a huge chunk of what they do all day, sit around making and updating contingency plans for EVERYTHING. The president being briefed on what the possible military options would be does not mean they are going to be used, it's a matter of procedure so he knows what all the available choices are.
>Obama/Trump/whoever is totally going to start WW3 over this guis!
No, nobody gives enough of a fuck to do so, the most likely outcome is the same one as always, "Re-evaluating our ongoing efforts with partners in the region" ie more toys for Kurds and the ever popular 'moderates' whilst also "Urging all parties to find a diplomatic solution".

It was like driving a mack truck on treads compared to our 113's and M60 tanks. It had a clutch that was ridiculously heavy too. I was part of a team marking and clearing mines with the Serbs and they had brought out a T-55 with mine rollers. I asked if they'd mind me driving it and they were all about it so I did. A Major who was there with us told me I was probably one of the only people on active duty who'd driven a T-55 on a real world deployment, let alone in a live minefield. I didn't hit any AT mines though, just a toe popper.
