How much oxygen does modern smokeless powder need to ignite? Could it function in a really low-oxygen environment like the surface of mars?
>>
>>33491559
It needs the oxygen it comes with, dipshit.
>>
>>33491559
Zero. It self oxydises.
>>
>>33491559
All smokeless powder has its own oxidizer dumb ass fucking moron. It works in zero oxygen environments.
>>
>>33491571
So the KNO3 is in saltpeter is all it needs?
>>
>>33491577
>>33491571
>>
>>33491559
its part of the reaction in the powder guy, come on....
>>
>>33491581
Yeah and enough activation energy to get the reaction going
>>
>>33491581
>>33491581
yes, hence why powder can still burn and explode when it is cased in something air tight, like a cartridge....
>>
What if the smokeless powder was made in space where there is no oxygen, would it still be able to ignite?
>>
space shooting range when?
>Astronaut on ISS takes a shot
>Misses
>Bullet gets caught in Earths gravitational pull
>Flys around the Earth and slams into the ISS at 30 km/s
>>
OP curiously asks question, because hows he supposed to know?
Everyone: you're a dummy, go die, fuck you
>>
>>33491559
its gunpowder it doesnt need oxygen to ingnite. it needs a flame.
>>
>>33491619
Which raises the question: will regular primers work in space?
>>
>>33491607
>>Bullet gets caught in Earths gravitational pull
>Flys around the Earth and slams into the ISS at 30 km/s
Not possible. It's possible for it to come back and hit the ISS, but not at a substantially greater (relative) velocity.
>>
>>33491639
Duh, retard.
>>
>>33491665
What if the gravity slingshots it to go faster like in TV and movies.
>>
>>33491559
is that rabbit food
>>
>>33491603
You don't need oxygen to make it.
>>
>>33491618
Google. You're a dummy, go die, fuck you.
>>
How do they get enough oxygen inside of a cartridge to burn the gunpowder?
>>
>>33491911

>>
>>33491934
lol oxygen is a gas stupid, it cant be in a powderm duh
>>
>>33491945
stop shitposting
>>
>>33491687
It would miss the ISS because it would be an elliptical orbit.
Also velocity is the lowest at the periapsis and apoapsis.
>>
>>33491973
thanks for the (You), now i feel like i belong

What if the trajectory was sorta like this.

love you too

>Also velocity is the lowest at the periapsis and apoapsis.
Only 50% of this statement is true, now fuck off to kspg
>>
>>33492024
It would hit something before it made it a mile.
>>
>>33492024
that is a very cute picture anon you should be proud of it maybe ask your mom to hang it up on your fridge?
>>
>>33491665
Nigga u wrong
>>
>>33491581
>So the KNO3 is in saltpeter is all it needs?

Smokless and blackpowder are diferent chemicals and should never be considered the same as that is a great way to blow your hand off.

They both contain O2 that they need.
>>
>>33492032
prove me wrong friendo
>>
>>33492090
Velocity is lowest at apogee/apoapsis.
t. physics
>>
>>33492155
U rite
>>33492090
U wrong
>>
>>33492024
ISS and earth are still moving
>>
>>33492191
But so is the bullet
>>
>>33492194
In the model drawn, there is no movement represented for either the earth or the ISS
>>
>>33491680
Would Flintlocks?

Nobody is this stupid.
>>
>>33491665
Maybe if it was in a polar orbit...

Yes.

How much fire does oxygen need?

NEW TOPIC OF THREAD
What's the fastest burning commercially available powder you can buy?
I think that Norma made the fastest, a pistol powder, but they stopped production
>>
>>33491665
>>33491607
there is drag in LEO.
>>
>>33492079
black powder doesn't have anywhere near enough
that's why it smokes so badly
>>
>>33492419
No.
>>
>>33492862
I'm not sure why you think that. Flints aren't dependent on oxygen to create a spark.
>>
>>33492472
All of it.
>>
>>33491979
nigga u what? velocity is highest at periapsis
>>
It doesn't need oxygen, but it does need the containment provided by atmospheric pressure to sustain burning. A gun would work in space, but a pile of gunpowder will not burn in space.
