>What is the rarest gun you own, /k/?
Uh...

How are we defining rare? Since I got my Mosin their market changed wildly. The prices went up and I haven't seen one innastore since.

Since I got my WASR, the AK market also changed like the Mosin. WASR prices went up and they aren't being imported as much as before due to Cugir producing shit for the sandbox.

My 92FS has siblings everywhere. Not rare at all.

My AR, though, has an uncommon lower receiver with a name that won't exist anymore. It has unique etched dust cover and I am the only anon rocking a 13" Geissele Mk4 handguard.

You tell me.

4 + 1 capacity, 27" full-choke barrel. Weighs about 7-8lbs and I find it points very well. I've shot a bit of trap with it (mainly just for novelty) and it performed well.

It's got a big slide on top that reciprocates back and forth. To be honest, it's pretty intimidating since it weighs about 2lbs, and moves slowly enough you can see it. There's a spring loaded buffer, and a lot of the guts make it very difficult for the slide to actually come off the back of the gun, but it's still a bit scary.

To operate it:

-Cock the striker with the lever on the rear of the slide. The slide is locked until you do so.

-Insert a shell into the chamber. When you insert the next shell into the tube, it will hit a release and drop the slide on the chambered shell (You can fill the tube and then rack the slide if you prefer).

-The shotgun will lock open when empty.

The biggest issue with it is it's chambered for the older 2.5" shells, so you need to roll your own. In my experience the mechanism seems pretty reliable, though you need to have it supported on your shoulder.

Disassembly is complicated, but not a nightmare once you figure out how to go about it.

>>33489868

The mechanism is very weird. It's got a weird spring loaded breech block connected to a tilting locking bolt and the entire outside of the slide moves forward under recoil.

As best I can tell from the patents and owning one, this is how it works:

You pull the trigger, which drops the striker. The striker spring is very powerful, and the striker head is cupped to hold it against the back of the breechblock while forward. The breech is kept closed by this spring (it's nested with an even bigger buffer spring).

Under recoil some weirdness happens. The slide is basically floating, so it stays put while the rest of the gun goes backward. The gun moving rearward under the slide compresses the striker/breech spring, preventing it from opening. Once the gun begins to stop recoiling, the spring pressure overcomes to slide. The breechblock is now free to begin traveling rearward against spring tension. This recocks the striker, and unlocks the locking block, allowing the whole mess to cycle back.

At this point the slide is caught by a catch connected to the lifter. If a shell is present, it is now free to shoot backward into the lifter which trips a release. The lifter is then brought upward, putting a shell in line with the chamber, and the slide flies forward to chamber it.
....this thing was designed by a madman.

Second from top, an all-matching Mannlicher M95M with no import marks. 122k M95s were converted by Yugoslavia into M95/24 or M95M models - despite relatively high production, these are extremely rare with matching serials. This is mainly caused by a couple of quirks in the conversion, as expected from a straight-pull that's been converted from a rimmed cartridge to a rimless, as well as from enbloc to stripper clips.

Forgot my fucking pic.

Quirks mentioned earlier are caused by the modified enbloc that serves as feed lips - this part is easily lost and reduces the rifle to single-shot when missing. Firing as a single shot will break the extractor, and in most cases the rifles were cannibalized for parts (hence the rarity of matching numbers) when this happened because replacing the extractor requires disassembling the entire bolt send that's a pain in the ass. Instead of a new extractor being made, a bolt was dropped in from another rifle.

That I've ever had? A Finnish B barrel M91. They were made post war by Finland with Belgian barrels, and only around 4000-5000 were made. I sold it along with all of my Finnish Mosins almost two years ago

They were all unissued, they were pretty much made illegally with leftover parts (the Finns weren't supposed to be making guns post war) and then put in storage

Just because their production numbers are few doesn't mean they're valuable, they're only like $400 or so. I traded some Turk surplus 8mm for mine and eventually sold it for like $350

Top is percussion converted octagonal barrelled silver inlay gun, brass rear sight and forsight.

Bottom is original 1777 AN IX and bayonet.

Bayonet is missing locking ring. Gun was used by the French state production company as a movie prop until it was shut down, immaculate provenance as it went straight from the state armoury to them. Strap is undoubtedly not original but does have some interesting markings on it liking it to Paris Garde Nationale at some point.

You picked a good time to ask as I am cleaning them (lightly) and applying museum wax to the metalwork tomorrow.

>>33492971
>How'd you come by these very old guns?

I am an historian. I am probably a lot older than most posters. I have a collection of several hundred pieces.

The queen ann pistol is remarkable because that is the ORIGINAL flint and desiccated leather wrap. It was discovered in the locked drawer of an antique writing desk. Silver wire is inlayed in the hilt.

It was loaded, I have unloaded it.
>>
>>33493018
How does one go about unloading a muzzle loader safely? My grandma has an old ass blackpowder pistol and if it is loaded I wanna know what to do.
>>
>>33492984

On the side is an original bullet mould and barrel key. These percussion guns were the Saturday night special of the early 18th century loved by gamblers and prostitutes add for personal protection in the largely unpoliced and unlit streets of the age.. Very devastating in close contact. You would not feel unarmed with a couple of those and a swordstick though.
>>
>>33493040

>How does one go about unloading a muzzle loader safely? My grandma has an old ass blackpowder pistol and if it is loaded I wanna know what to do.

That (the queen anne) is an 18th centurn gun and quite a nice piece. Most of the later turn barrel guns (the barrels unscrew) are not so rare relatively speaking. On these you unscrew the barrel and the bullet and powder come out.

On riles/muskets you need to be quite careful and use a combination of a rot with a screw on the end and screw it into the ball and pull. Another way is to use compressed air attached to the touch hole o nipple thread. Either way keep your torso, head, hands and arms away from the muzzle. Black powder loads generally are still live even after a hundred years.

id say the top one here. its a late production costa mesa ar180. what makes it kind of neat is supposedly during the last few months of production in california, they ran out of semi auto lower receivers. rather than make new ones (bc production was wrapping up) they re purposed full auto ar18 lowers. kind of similar to the early howa ar180s.
i believe mine is one of these re purposed ar18 lowers. the safety selector (and safety nubs/stops) goes 180 degrees and you can see a third selector marking which has been ground off.
bottom one is just a run of the mill sterling

The British went back, and destroyed part of Kabul.

These weapons were the long range sniper rifles of the day, the ball being hammered down the barrel with a steel rod. Accounts tell us an attack was preceded by the ominous sounds o the balls being hammered down the barrels. The flintlock in the top on is taken from a musket from the soldiers butchered in the 1842 retreat, and was brought back as a trophy. The bottom is a matchlock with broken stock also taken from the same expedition.

A great many fake jezails have been made for sale to members of ISAF etc however these too originate in a country house from 1880 and have provenance from the British Officer who owned the house. A sheepskin was placed over the stock and they were generally shot from a bipod like device.

They could hit out to 500 yards.

"If your officer's dead and the sergeants look white,
Remember it's ruin to run from a fight:
So take open order, lie down, and sit tight,
And wait for supports like a soldier.
Wait, wait, wait like a soldier . . .

When you're wounded and left on Afghanistan's plains,
And the women come out to cut up what remains,

Here we see the imperial German marking attributing this to the 111th regiment. Taken as bounty in the Franco Prussian war of 1870 the 111th was at the Somme, Passchendaele
etc Taken in an exchange for cigarettes by British officer in 1919 I was told by his daughter.

"Cossacks are the best light troops among all that exist." - Napoleon Bonaparte

A French sabre tip would be a particularly powerful was souvenir for a Cossack family that was in service in the Napoleonic wars.

I have a mauser 88 that was brought back from the boer war and used in the Irish war of independence but my bolt actions are held for me by a museum (very strict laws here) so I can't take a picture for you now. It was used by Irish volunteers fighting for the boers. It is a very historic firearm.

I don't know.

My Mauser is numbers matching and has the bayonet and vet bringback paperwork.

My Single Action Army is made by USFA which is fairly rare.

Finally my Hi-Power is in very nice condition and it's a numbers matching late war model.

Very nice. You pick up an idem like that and you feel the history,

The Japanese have a cultural aspect in Shinto that attributes souls to items that reach 99 years of age. Old weapons have personalities.

Nothing makes the conflicts of the past more real than holding the weapons of the era.

“The confusion now was terrible; all discipline was now at an end, and the shouts of “Halt!” and “Keep back the cavalry!” incessant. The only cavalry were the officers who were mounted, and a few sowars…Just getting clear of the pass, I with great difficulty made my way to the front, where I found a large body of men and officers who, finding it perfectly hopeless to remain with the men in such a state, had gone ahead to form a kind of advance guard; but was we moved steadily on, whilst the main body was halting every second, by the time that day dawned, we had lost all traces of those in our rear.”
“The rear kept calling on the men in front to halt, while the officers were urging the expediency of pushing on and losing no time, as they said could we reach Gandamack by daylight we should be safe.

This continued for some time, some of the men halting, others pushing on as requested, till the cries from the rear became more loud and frequent to halt in front. The men in front then said, “The officers seem to care but for themselves, let them push on if they like, we will halt till our comrades in the rear catch up.

From this point, some of the officers went on, as all regularity seemed at an end; every man determined to act for himself”

William Brydon CB (10 October 1811 – 20 March 1873) was an assistant surgeon in the British East India Company Army during the First Anglo-Afghan War, famous for reportedly being the only member of an army of 4,500 men, plus 12,000 accompanying civilians, to reach safety in Jalalabad at the end of the long retreat from Kabul.

Surgeon Brydon was one of twelve mounted officers who had become separated from the remnants of the main column before the final stand at Gandamak. This small group had ridden to Futtehabad but half had been killed there while six escaped. All but Brydon were killed, one by one, further along the road as their horses became exhausted.[1] On the afternoon of 13 January 1842 the British troops in Jalalabad, watching for their comrades of the Kabul garrison, saw a single figure ride up to the town walls. It was Dr Brydon. Part of his skull had been sheared off by an Afghan sword and he survived only because he had stuffed a copy of Blackwood's Magazine into his hat to fight the intense cold weather. The magazine took most of the blow, saving the doctor's life

Remington Auto-Loading Shotgun, chambered in 12 Gauge. The serial number is in the 4000s. Remington's official response when I asked what year my Auto-Loading Shotgun was made was met with "No seriously what model is it?"

Upon responding that in 1911 the model was renamed the Remington Model 11 the person told me incorrectly that they were always called the Model 11 and that it was made in 1905.

Fuck Remington but it's a beautiful Browning beast. Most of the finish is gone but it functions perfectly. I love it because it has the original safety directly in front of the trigger... it's fucking dangerous and I love it.
