Thanks, grandpa... Glad I never tried one that out...

>>see forward assist on an AR
I once thought it was the difference between a gas piston AR and a DI AR.
I thought the forward assist was the charging handle for a while. Thanks counter strike: source
>>33487583
I once thought direct impingement ars existed.
>>33487583
How much more recoil does a gas piston have vs a DI?
>>33487371
>Gas operated meant there was compressed gas that operated the gun like a CO2 airsoft/BB gun
>gas operated
>literally thought it used fuel to operate
I still don't know how Pincinnaty,Weaver,KeyMod and MLok etc. work.
>>33487765
How they work? They're just attachment formats.
How well they work? Arguably similar.
What the difference is? One is obscure, one is the new fad, the rest are not /fa/.
>>33487371
Oh, I forgot one.
>think that a live cartridge, in the event of a primer strike, has the potential to actually launch the bullet as if it were fired out of a gun rather than the case just exploding
>>33488029
It does. It'll just have very little energy because no pressure.
I thought shotgun shells were more like frag grenades that focused their blasts out of the barrel.
>>33488061
That's exactly what they are.
>>33487371
I honestly still dont know what the forward assist does
Whole cartridge is shot out
>>33488146
It assists you in a forward maneuver, duh!
>>33488146
Google is your friend :)
>The forward assist on a firearm is a button found commonly on AR-15 rifle derivatives, such as the M16 rifle, and is usually located near the bolt closure. When hit, it pushes the bolt carrier forward, ensuring that the bolt is locked.
>Desert Eagle 50 cal shoots the same bullet as the Barrett 50 cal
>full auto is more efficent than semi auto
>every ar platform is an M16A(1,2,3 or 4)
>Suppressors makes the rifle silent
I was not a very smart man back then
>>33488146
has a pic related effect on the bullet ammunition cartridge round
>>33488172
It honestly is kinda useless
>>33488238
I honestly think it looks kinda cool, though.
>>33488238
Sure it is brainiac.
>>33487596
Fucking this.
Goddammit for the longest time I thought it was like a little plug attached to a cable of some sort like a lawnmower, which linked into the bolt carrier somehow.
>>33488303
>2004
>not pull-starting your guns
>>33487815
Which one of those is obscure?
>>33487666
Me too Satan
>>33487571
When people who I know understand the difference, this doesn't bother me.
When it's someone I know is ignorant does it, it's fucking infuriating
>>33488238
Try getting your rifle dirty once in a while.
>>33488106
I think he means without a wad to carry the pellets out of the barrel. It's a common underage/noguns question how the pellets don't destroy the barrel.

>>33488345
the mk47 actually charges like this
>>33488710
But can I assist the bolt into battery with it?
>>33488888
Cobalt Kinetics. Their rifles certainly look, uh, interesting.

>>33488938
But does it assist on forwarding the bolt?
>>33489148
>"the FORWARD ASSIST also is a bolt release"
I don't know, man, probably?
>>33489249
This is the shit that keeps me up at night man.

Witnessed.
Anyway, gun retardery from my youth.
>thought a "handgun" meant semi auto pistol exclusively and "pistol" was a revolver, didn't know about the term "revolver"
>mispronounced foreign guns constantly: uzi= yooz-eye, sig sauer = sig saw-err.
>thought supressors went "pew pew" because of Goldeneye.
>thought all guns were 100% metal with occasional wood stocks and grips. didn't know about polymer frames until reading up on the P99.
>thought tea-cupping was proper grip.
>played russian roulette with one of those ring cap revolvers, EEEEEEEEEEEE.
>saw suppressors for sale on an online gun shop; thought I'd logged onto a black market site, and was gonna get arrested.
>thought guns in movies were live fire and everyone was wearing bullet proof vests.
>>33487371
Used to think that you could just buy full auto funs due to literally 99% of movie criminals and heroes using full auto
thought that suppressors were illegal everywhere and they made your shots close to silent
>>33487571
and this
>>33487371
>>continue to have no idea what the fuck it's supposed to do for quite some time
It's designed to make the rifle explode, or become otherwise inoperable.

No joke, I talked with a gun store owner after hours one day while fondling the guns, and I told him this, and he just blankly looked at me and said

thats a great way to be killed in battle
>>33487371
I remember thinking all pump-action shotguns held 12 rounds because the one in Halo did, and I remember for a long time thinking FMJ rounds could punch through body armor like paper because in SWAT 4 FMJ rounds were better against body armor than HP rounds.
>>33488623

>>33488146
In the army I was told it was also called the jungle assist because if you are in the jungle and dont want to make the sound of using the charging handle you can ride it home and use the forward assist to make sure the bolt is locked. Dunno if thats bullshit or not, but it is used to ensure your bolt is properly locked
>>33489780
Not if the fault is a result of the magazine.
I had a round jam halfway up the feed ramp, a tap to the forward assist unjammed it and the rifle continued to function.
I thought the red safety indicator on Berettas was a little led light.
>>33489963
No competent armorer would ever officially refer to it as a jungle assist, but that is indeed a sound tactic for a quieter reload.
>>33491997
Is it a protocol/decorum thing? Is there something wrong with calling it that?
