Ok so I built an AR about 10 months ago with a DelTon upper and parts kit and a CMMG lower. Well the two rattle around without a mag inserted.

I want to build another rifle but want to avoid that issue this time around. Any decent tips for an AR novice.

>inb4 ARG
Wanna avoid the cancerous "well mine cost $x thousands so it's better by default" types.

>>33481637

>delton upper
disgusting. Google around for parts and watch youtube tutorials on how to build gayr15s. Sootch and ir8888 has pretty decent videos on them despite the channels themselves being relatively uninformitive.
>/arg/ is bad hurdud
honestly, as insufferable as some of the trips are (looking at you giddy), they actually recommend some the best gears available on the market and for good reason. I won't blame you for wanting to avoid it but they hold some merits. /akg/ is the one you want to avoid completely, as it offers absolutely nothing and consist purely of trips attention posting
>>
>>33481653
Yea no....
Try again, if that were the case then every single AR I have handled besides the one I built, would all have been built "wrong" including factory and home built.

>tripfags
Not surprised really...
>>
>>33481637
Try to buy an upper and a lower from the same company.
>>
>>33481699
Yea I know ARG has a few reasonable people, just too many circle jerkers there fawning over how much their solid brass lower cost lol.

>delton
Yea I learned the hard way and that's why I wanna build a new one that's not total shite.
How are Model 1 uppers? Kinda wanted to do a faux XM177 for the lulz.
>>
>>33481763

ive heard mixed things about em online, mostly problems with feed ramps iirc. I would stick to the fn barreld Psa models if you want to get a quality upper for cheap price tag, or upgrade to a BCM if you want something nice.
desu, if you're inexperienced with Ars, you wont notice the difference between the two. The psa should run you about 450 and another 100 or so for the bcg. slap it on any lower with a nice trigger in it (geissele or larue), and you have a quality ar for about 900 buckaroos.
>>
>>33482291
Ok, now is where I get "cod kiddie mode". I do want a rifle that if needs be I could "go to war" with it. Like use and abuse but still function pretty well.

Does PSA tend to fit the bill then?
>>
>>33482427
as long as you get the fn barreled model and not their budget upper that cost 200 dollars, then yes.
>>
>>33482512
I'm guessing the "freedom" ones are the cheap barrels?
>>
>>33482536
correct.
You want one of these

Hey, OP, what you need is an accuwedge. It'll fix the rattle.

Also, Delton's no worse than PSA. They both produce serviceable uppers.

you do not need to pay 600$ for an upper
stripped uppers and lowers are basically the same throughout price points as long as they're milspec
browse r gundeals
also browse ARG to find deals; i got this DD rail for 30$
lastly pick what you like over what everyone loves

Since this seems to be an AR thread that's more helpful than ARG, I'll ask here.
Just got an UBR stock for my 308ar, and threw in a Sprinco Orange because it's Carbine length. My BCG is catching on the mags follower instead of the bolt catch to hold itself open. What spring do I need if not Carbine to fix this ? Or do I need a new BCG?

>>
>>33483015
are you talking last round hold open?
that wouldn't be the springs issue, would be ur catch id assume
>>
>>33482852
Uggo as fuck. Also just because that optic was produced in the same building as Vortex does not speak for quality. I owned a PA 1-6 and after less than 1k rounds the eye piece developed a rattle and some internal piece had come loose and was rattling around. Getting it warranty'd out was a pain in the ass and the one they replaced it with had the same issue in almost no time at all. Also;
>second focal plane in a variable power optic that has a ranging feature

Ok guys, let's play a game. I'm going to post a list of shit that would equate to a fully built AR! You guys rate it on a scale of 1-10.
(Complete Upper):
http://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-16-5-56-nato-1-7-mid-melonite-11-m-lok-freedom-upper-with-bcg-ch-516445314.html

(MOMEME Lower Build Kit):
http://palmettostatearmory.com/moe-lower-build-kit-black.html

(Lower [Picked this one because I already had their site open. They are all the same.]):
http://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-blemished-safe-fire-lower.html

(El Cheapo Irons from Amazon:)
[Rear]:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016K3I83G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

[Front]:

I did this with a budget of about $600 in mind. Post your ideas and rate them
>>
>>33483283
Literally just buy an AR556 from CDNN for $499
>>
>>33483283
Oh yeah. I forgot the price.

In all. $506.47
I was grossly under budget which leaves alot of room for improvement with the rest of the budget. Or you could just buy ammo and enjoy the rifle
>>
>>33483325
Well anyone could just buy the rifle, but this is for you to creat a list of shit that would equate to a build that you want. It does not need to be budget. i just had PSA open already, so that is where all of my parts came from.
>>
>>33483191
And I bet that because I eat ramen that means I'm really poor, even poorer than you, you fucking imbecile. I have enough disposable income that I can buy a cheap scope to do a review for my YT channel if I so please. You bought a second focal plane variable power optic, albeit 1-6x, with a ranging feature that is also a piss poor BDC. If you admitted that you bought it because it was cheap and you're cheap instead of pretending that what you got was kobe beef at rotten hamburger meat price no one would be shitting on you except people who intentionally want to rustle your jimmies.
>>
>>33483054
>>33483197
Just built it, bolt isn't going back far enough to hit the bolt catch, just the follower of the mag.
>>
>>33483283
Don't buy cheap irons, get something of decent quality with a warranty if you can. A friend of mine has spent more on shitty irons than if he had just bought a decent set to begin with.
>>
>>33483283
Your upper is a 6/10 because it's not an FN barrel, and your sights are 0/10 for airsoft shit

Overall, a correctly assembled AR with no idiot marks built with those parts would probably be a 6or7 out of ten on the scale of "did I build a functional carbine for homestead defence and training purposes" scale.

You aren't going to do wildly better with that budget, but you can get you money's worth spending a bit more.
>>
>>33483351
I don't know why you would want bottom of the barrel parts though

Given the current market conditions with regards to AR15's, there is no reason to build one under $900, and by that same token nor is there reason to build for over $1800 unless it is specifically for competition, given the price of KAC SR15 hovering around around 2k.

Less than 900 bucks you may get yourself a FF rail or different stock. Maybe a slightly upgraded trigger. But you aren't getting a particularly good barrel.

Over $1800, as I mentioned KAC or LMT territory you get rifles designed around objectively improved system functionality like KAC E2 bolt and Mod 2 gas system, or LMT enhanced BCG as well along with actual customer service and warranties that are also present on low end factory rifles (AR556 for example).

It's that 900-1800 price range where you can sacrifice customer service and warranties for different parts that save weight, are more accurate, more durable etc and there is any reason to bother building one.
>>
>>33483380
My initial concern would be that the lower might be out of spec, causing the bolt catch to not press the magazine follower down.
>>
>>33482859
ptac does not explode and the bullets leave the barrel traveling in a forward direction. anything past that is a bonus. but hey you built the cheapest ar you could great job.
>>
>>33482688

How easily/freely is the bolt supposed to be able to move in it's carrier group?
>>
>>33483283
Airshit sights.

>>33483334
That's the price without a lower, or sights worth buying. An AR-556, and an aftermarket freefloat handguard would be cheaper.
>>
>>33483552
you should be able to stand the bcg up on the bolt and not move

This is after i installed an UBR and a Sprinco Orange Carbine recoil spring. I'll swap that back out for the standard buffer tube in a few minutes (just got off work) and see what happens, but I seem to remember it catching then.
>>
>>33483681
The receiver extension and buffer spring shouldn't have anything to do with the bolt hitting the magazine follower. If changing them back has an effect, I'd still suspect the problem is somewhere else, and the stiffer spring is merely making the problem more apparent.
>>
>>33483509

does that happen when live fired or just you fucking around with empty mags? cause ive got one magpul mag that does the same thing when im just dicking around with it but its never failed to lock back with real ammo. the issue is the follower gets infront of the mag catch pinning it in place instead of being under it and pushing up.

Because the UBR won't go onto the old buffer. Old spring won't even let it rest on the follower.
