Get you a hand steamer, blast steam on each part and then the shit just wipes off with a paper towel

Boil metal parts in water in a pot you won't use for food.

Breakfree clp somewhat works. It doesnt dissolve it or melt it off like boiling or mineral spirits, it just softens the hard waxy shit into a goey shit that you can wipe off. Other methods are better but if you dont want to go to the store for minerals spirits, clp will work.

I haven't bought anything that I've had to clean cosmoline out of (yet), but I have access to a big ultrasonic cleaner, would that work?

Yes, use hot water and some ultrasonic cleaning solution and it'll melt off like magic. Might want to wipe the parts down off afterwards with another cleaner too.

I got an M48 from AIM a few months ago, and I used unleaded gasoline to clean the metal parts. All the cosmoline pretty much fell off after about 20 seconds depending on the thickness.

This is what I use.
Or kerosene, whichever I have more of in my garage at the time.

A roll of Scott blue shop towels, nitrile gloves, and an aluminum turkey pan are good to have as well.
Also a small nylon bristle brush and qtips for getting in crevasses.

Small parts can be boiled then cleaned and oiled. Wood can be left in the sun and wiped down, everything else can be solved with a bathtub filled with simple green.

Brake cleaner actually works really well on cosmoline, but make sure you use non-chlorinated if you use that method

Honestly not sure, that's the advice I got a while back, and since non-chlorinated is pretty much just as common as chlorinated I figure there's no reason not to go for it.
Maybe chlorine messes with the finish or something

People steam clothes to get wrinkles out. Professionals use large tables that put out a ton of steam to get the whole garment at once. Most people just use something like pic related.
