I bought an M97 at a gun show last weekend for $350 dollars, it's the take down model in fair to good condition. I got the heat shield for it today. The problem is that the Bead Sight on the barrel won't allow me to put the heat shield on. Should I cut the Bead off since there's one on the shield? I don't think the heat shield has enough thickness for me to cut a groove for the Bead either. What do?

Looks like it's already been cut, so not really a collector's gun.
Also, drill a hole in the heat shield so that the bead pokes through. There. Problem solved.

I have the 30 inch barrel takedown version made in 1912 and I just come to appreciate it, it looks more intimidating in my opinion, not as intimidating as the Trench gun with its heat shield and bayonet lug
Still though, are there shorter take down barrels out there I can swap out?

I have a Stevens 520 and I didn't want to cut the factory barrel but found a complete barrel assembly for $75 on eBay one time that had been cut down to 18.5".
