I bought an M97 at a gun show last weekend for $350 dollars, it's the take down model in fair to good condition. I got the heat shield for it today. The problem is that the Bead Sight on the barrel won't allow me to put the heat shield on. Should I cut the Bead off since there's one on the shield? I don't think the heat shield has enough thickness for me to cut a groove for the Bead either. What do?
Can't you just unscrew the bead?

What year was it made?

looks like the bead's welded on there
>>33478080
Dealer who sold it to me said the 1930's haven't checked myself though
Looks like it's already been cut, so not really a collector's gun.
Also, drill a hole in the heat shield so that the bead pokes through. There. Problem solved.

Bubba... why you gotta fuck with shit?
Yes, just knock the bead off. Or buy a new barrel/tube so you can shoot steel and not fuck with shit.
Instead of cosplaying you're in WW1 or an operator, cosplay you're a cowboy. Don't ruin a piece of history especially with something as stupid as a heat shield.

It's already been ruined. Barrel has been cut. There's a reason why it only set him back $350

Never understood this autism

Look good no shield gun fine

Fair enough, I'd rather have the bead though. I've never understood the utility of heat shields on shotguns.

He can have both. Like I told him:

Or he can trim the heatshield down so it doesn't cover the bead area.

I thought the bead was preventing him from sliding it on. It's his gun and it's already fucked up, so whatever.

This
I have the 30 inch barrel takedown version made in 1912 and I just come to appreciate it, it looks more intimidating in my opinion, not as intimidating as the Trench gun with its heat shield and bayonet lug
Still though, are there shorter take down barrels out there I can swap out?

Not understanding basic concepts is a sign of autism.

Of course. Search gunbroker, ebay, etc.
I have a Stevens 520 and I didn't want to cut the factory barrel but found a complete barrel assembly for $75 on eBay one time that had been cut down to 18.5".
Just a quick swap
