Canteen was metal. Corroded, maybe. More importantly it had a coating of some sort probably meant for cleaning nd maintaining machinery parts. He saw there was an odd color, cooked coffee in it anyway and even commented on funny color and smell. Got plenty warnings from /k/ but still drank it. Started to feel bad, then puked blood. End of his transmission. Darwin's Law: reinforced.

Just to have said it. My dad started shitting blood. Eventually went to a doctor, who found a tumor in the lower whatchamacallit tube. Full radiation treatment and a removal operation afterwards. Guys, if you paint the wc red on a regular basis don't laugh it off.

Canteen metal cup is fine as long as it is cleaned out really fucking well. Bleach , simple green , washed with light sand , boiled once or twice over then it should be fine.

I actually had canteen coffee just like that when I was on TDY to Osan AB for their air base defense school.

I was sitting in a DFP near the base perimeter watching out for opfor. I could barely keep my eyes open until the S-4 came around and served it up black in a canteen. I drank the whole thing and I was wired the rest of the night and got 3-4 kills.

Basically, for the US canteen cups that were part of the canteen set: the first cups were aluminium from ww1 to mid ww2, then other materials were used as aluminum was getting shortstocked: stainless steel, porcelain, AND steel cups coated with tin or zinc.

RIPOP's cup may have been one of the zinc coated ones, where the coat had been damaged. It's a viable theory, especially considering his allergies.

Personally I also find it possible that the coat had been treated with WD40 or something like that by the previous owner..WD40 leaves a coat which is a good thing on machine parts. Not so good on brewing and drinking utensils.
