What does /k/ think of smart guns?
>>33468288
shitty unreliable tech that give liberals wet dreams
>>33468288
That slide doesnt look very heavy
I'm the only smart my gun needs.
>>33468288
As a concept, I like the idea of a gun only I can shoot.
In reality I am aware that they are years, if not decades away from practicality.
In practice, I am against them due to how gun grabbers will use them to ban all other guns.
>>33468288
I think they're stupid
Needs a buff imo, but am ultimately happy with the way they made it a boost instead of a primary.
>>33468288
they'll seem all nice and good until Liquid Ocelot activates GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS and we're all stuck with WWII relics while OUTER HAVEN takes over the world
>>33468288
More points of failure on a device subjected to harsh forces. Nice.
>>33468304
its .22lr
>>33468347
This is what turns me away from them, big part of what makes a good gun is it's simplicity and the reliability that endows it with.

In certain specific contexts I could see it being useful and safe. If there’s a market for it, good on them for saturating it.
From an engineering standpoint, it has a major problem. Designers have to choose what state the gun defaults to if the “smart” systems fail.
>Gun is locked
Now you’ve got a non-working firearm if one totally auxiliary system fails. The ultimate stupid decision, from an engineering standpoint
>Gun is unlocked
The better option. But anyone could just take a powerful magnet to it and render your smart gun completely “dumb”.
Problem is that some authoritarians are going to push to make it an industry standard, if not mandatory.
Then it becomes full-on MGS4 territory: the government would have the power to shut down the arms of anyone it chose.
Stupid, dangerous idea, with a niche use. Good for those that want it, bad for anyone who wants it common/universal.
>>33468694
But what specific use cases do smart guns have? Maybe with prison guards? I can't see anybody else wanting one.
>>33468715
People with kids?
>>33468729
>have kid not old enough to understand guns = dangerous
you're a neglectful little cunt if you let the guns rest around in a place where the kid can find them
>have kid old enough to understand guns = dangerous
if you haven't taught the kid guns are dangerous you're a neglectful little cunt
>>33468337
>needs a buff
No, it needs to be deleted from the game.
Companies that make rfid smart guns, also sell remote deactivation devices, and lobby for smart guns to be mandatory.
Fuck smart guns
>>33468328
What if a loved one or a friend needs to shoot your gun
>>33468729
If you need a smart gun to keep your kids from shooting themselves you are a terrible parent.
>>33468288
They're stupid.
>>33468748
>>33468822
I didn't say it was a good idea. Guy was asking for demographics, and there are a LOT of shit parents out there.
>>33468715
Police.
>>33468288
>What does /k/ think of smart guns?
Shit idea.
Only realistic scenario where it's use would be legitimate would be in a prison. And would only be viable if instituted in secret. Once word got out you're looking at a demolition man scenario and it becomes more costly to deal with medical expenses than to simply hire a new person.
>>33468715
Certainly not prison guards.
The justification I can see is for people who know they will use the gun only on their own terms. If you might need it at a moment’s notice, don’t get a smart gun.
Self-defense, military, police, etc. are right out.
Random ideas
>some fudd is paranoid about his grandkids taking down his hunting rifle while visiting and shooting themselves. Hunting is a controlled environment
>rancher/farmer with children occasionally has to put down an animal (although a captive bolt pistol would be a better)
>gun range rents out guns to customers and wants to make sure only the paying customer uses it, instead of passing it around in a group
All I got. I’m not interested in it. But someone somewhere might be.
>>33468694

>>33468817
Maybe I should have been more clear, I meant as a carry gun. Also you make two assumptions:
>That anyone I would love wouldn't already have their own gun
>That I am even capable of love
>>33468898
>tfw She will never be your lifting buddy
>>33468817
Honestly what if they nedd to use your phone? Not only could some other profiles becset up for biological markers, but if it were simply a code or button combo you can teach it to wifey.
I'm more with Ian on this. It's clear to see why a gun that only lends itself to autodisabling is a concern, but digitizing guns can have many other benefits, perhaps predicting malfunctions due to ammo, selecting most appropriate ROF on full auto firearms, only firing when reasonably on target, actively indicating likely MOA spread due to component heat, firing on command when your hand or trigger is disabled.
Think of a robot using a gun, and what it can do, then just scale back the robot into the gun.

>>33468288
I always keep guns' wireless functions off in Shadowrun, because give way for enemy deckers/spiders to fuck with me. The downside is that I can't use smartlink to fire around corners or drop magazines with a thought and the gun can't autocorrect for weather/range/etc, but the upside is that some futurechan fucker can't fuck with my weapons. I'll take the latter and adjust with my skill any day.

>>33468469
Kojima in general seems like he'd be pretty sympathetic to the brand of reactionary on 4chan. He dislikes the military/industrial complex, the CIA, overreaching government, technology in the hands of the government, proxy wars, and about all aspects of globalism. If he wasn't the designated hero of the industry the "media" would probably call him a bigot or something. He's also good at being topical, talking about globalist proxy wars in the middle-times of Bush Jr. then nationalism and revanchism in the rise of Trump and widespread anti-EU sentiment.

No he didn't you retard. Smart Guns are an impractical idea, to be fair, but the idea that the government is going to pull something from Metal Gear fucking Solid is retarded and reveals how much of an inept basement dweller you are.

Lock up your fucking guns and teach your kids what they are as soon as they're old enough to understand.
I grew up in a house with unsecured guns and ammunition and SURPRISE, I never fucking killed myself or anyone else. You know why? Because the moment I could talk my father dragged me out into the woods and shot a watermelon with his .357, then he bent down on one knee and told me verbatim,
>This is a gun, it can kill people, you see the way it exloded that watermelon? It'll do that to a person's head. If you EVER pick up a gun without my permission, or point a gun at somebody or something you ain't supposed to I will whoop your ass. Do you understand me?
And I did. And it was good.
Parent your fucking kids.
I think they are fucking amazing.

A backdoor to gun control and a hellish nightmare waiting to happen.
Look at the tech industry right now. Look at all the bullshit that companies force on you. Fuck, Windows 10 has ads, bloatware, spyware, and malware built INTO THE FUCKING OS. I don't want that level of complex bullshit on a gun.
>Oops, I forgot to update my GUNMASTER OS drivers, my gun is bricked until I can find a WiFi signal.
>Oop, there's a backdoor in the software, the government now knows where every gun is.
>Oops, Glockrosoft Inc. got hacked and an exploit got exposed, everyone's guns are bricked.
>Oops the government decided you don't need a gun anywhere but at range, all guns are now useless until unlocked with official RANGEKEY gun unlocking software at approved ranges.
>Oops, Glockrosoft Inc. went out of business, your product is no longer supported, it becomes a brick in 3 months.
>inb4 "Oh but you won't NEED to have a smart gun"
As soon as these fuckers come out on the market the antis will be clamoring to outlaw the "dangerous child killing dumb guns". Hell, there's already a law in New Jersey saying once they become commercially avaliable all handguns will have to be smart guns. Pursuing this technology endangers our rights.
>>33468729
And what happens when the kid is home alone and there's a home invasion but he can't use the gun to defend himself? Did you even think of that numbnuts?
Smart guns are stupid. If you're actually worried about the type of shit they're supposed to "fix" you can wait until the zore-x comes out and just use that.
>>33468845
Do they ever get disarmed? Surely they're trained to not let attackers come that close.
>>33469758
why do you think cops use level 3 retention holsters and the like?
>>33468288
>pick up phone to browse /k/
>touch fingerprint reader
>fails to read
>try again
>fails to read
>fuck it... *enters passcode*
Yeah, not on my guns please. Also it's just another liberal wet dream that would eventually be used for deactivation or confiscation. Not another fucking bite. This is the era where we get gun rights back, not concede even more of them.
If were talking smart optics and shit I'm all for them (tho I do still think there should always be backup irons)
If were talking fingerprint recognition shit I think its an affront to the beautiful technology what Is firearms
It takes away the most beautiful thing about guns, they dont need electricity unlike almost every complex machine we have today, they run off the energy supplied by the round and have used the same basic principles for hundreds of years
>pull trigger
>lump of lead flies thrugh air and fucks up object
theres just some beauty in an object what works purely of the geometry of its parts and I think taking that away and replacing it with complex wiring and circuitry is disgusting
>>33469847
I get what you mean. Guns are one of the very few purely mechanical devices still being used by the general public, even a lot of cars can't function without their computer systems. I've always found it really amazing to think about guns like the 1911 that have gone almost completely unchanged since it's first design and are still considered a top tier side arm to this day.
>>33469369
What the hell is that?
I want it
>>33469979
Every 1911 fanatic that talks about history's perfect gun that never needs changing is one less person that says you should buy a smartgun
>>33468845
Police won't use them because they are unreliable, even if they were reliable. Now pick up that can
S&w and colt both tried to make a smart gun in the 90's with a police badge RFID sensor that had to be behind the gun to fire
>the mechanism would shit the bed from recoil within half a mag
Even those kraut kike cucks with their "smart gun" ripping off the same tech over a decade later couldn't manage to make a .380 shoot twice with their system and had to make a .22lr standard velocity only (IE Phoenix arms makes a better .22 for $75-90) the size of a Glock 19.
>>33468845
>be cop

>get stabbed to death in the hood because of a fucking sandwich
No department would ever take the risk.
>>33470291
>>33470748
The idea in concept would be undoubtedly attractive to police.
I am in no way defending the horrible joke of currently available "smart" guns for police use. Smart gun technology still needs a large amount of advancement before it would be viable.
>>33471090
I repeat
>They won't use them because they are unreliable, even if they were reliable
No matter how good the tech becomes, no police department or police union would let them get issued
>Go to serve warrant on the hacker known as 4chan
>He nigger rigged a wide band frequency blocker and now all your duty pistols and smartARs are fancy paperweights in a 5 block radius
Or
>Police gats default to fire when there is no active Bluetooth connection or whatever
>Cell phone jammer in tyrones pocket
>He wrestles away your gun like a successful Mike brown
>What are you gonna do, shoot me -quote from shot police officer
The only true market for "smart guns" will never use them. Just like how the electric primer rem700s scared the fudds about having enough 9volts out in the woods to not miss that 12 point buck and sold like shit.
>>33468288
Cool concept with a lot of potential, not even close to being ready for carry or home defense use yet though.

Remington should make that system again, but this time market it to reloaders, telling them that they don't need primers anymore. Just need the brass, lead and powder.
